20 Best Wrapping Paper Cutter (2022 Updated)

We chose this paper cutter after comparing features with other models. The comparison app provided by Staples website was very helpful. After two weeks, the cutter seems fine; the curved blade cuts easily as advertised, but the handle is a little stiff to use – probably because it is new.

The product is a comfortable weight and sturdy, good construction and appearance. The safety latch is better design than our last cutter. It does not have a built in carrying handle like another model we saw, which would have been perfect, but it’s not a concern.

I cut a stack of 15 sheets easily. The only problem so far is seeing the exact cutting edge, because the thick plastic protective shield strip above the cutting edge of the board makes it a little tricky to tell exactly where the blade is coming down because of the thickness/height of the shield where it meets the bulky blade.

We cut 3-up coupon flyers, and have to be precise to cut down the middle of 1/2″ space between coupon text. We assume it will be fine once we all get more accustomed to it.

This is the second paper trimmer I’ve purchased from Blick that doesn’t cut square. When I try to line up the paper using the guide at the top of the trimmer, the ruler grid shows that it’s uneven and all of my cuts are off enough to make them unusable.

I guess it’s an ok product for teachers and anyone who doesn’t need an exact cut. This thing is heavy and will be a pain to return but I’m sending it back regardless.

We bought this in the hopes of upgrading to a better paper trimmer than the one we had before. We have had this paper trimmer for a few months now and have realized that it does not cut evenly. The hopes at first was that we just needed practice to get better.

After wasting 100’s of sheets of paper it never got better, we actually feel is has gotten worse. The blade is not in-line with the ruler causing the cuts to not be even. In all honesty it is faster and looks more professional when using hand held scissors.

For the price at which we paid we excepted a much better product.

The blade hinge is weak and allows the blade to move to the right, opening a gap between the blade and the edge of the base. This makes the blade only cut about halfway, then it just folds the material being cut.

Even cutting 1 sheet at a time is difficult. You have to pull the handle to the left to help keep the cutter straight. This cutter ruined several pieces of my project and caused a loss higher then the price of the cutter.

2. The black base with black measurements is very hard to read. Item is going back today. I hope they don’t just put it back on the shelf for the next customer to deal with.

From the very beginning this performed terribly. Halfway down the length of the cut it would tear the paper. Tried multiple quantities of paper to the same result. Would have brought it right back had I not been so far from the store and under circumstances that It was not feasible to leave my location at that time.

Probably 1/4 of the producr of one type we had printed was destroyed and left unsaleable by this mechanism. The rest had to be cut mostly by this mechanism and finished off with scissors. Multiple people tried it with the same result.

It is almost as if this unit had been previously purchased and brought back heavily used or for the same description I just wrote. Then returned to the shelf.

Really put the trimmer through the test on different size 20 lb papers including legal and ledger size for trimming and cutting at all different angles of the papers. Had to remove the fingerguard on the top of the trimmer in order to move the longer and wider sheets of paper closer to the cutting edge for accurate trimming.

Some pages had 14″& 17″ lengths of paper imprinted with color ink which made the paper slightly heavier and resistant to the blade cutting smoothly without tearing the edge vs a sharp cut border. Must have cut close to a full ream of paper testing the angles of the cuts on the gridded surface of trimmer.

It was awkward to trim the longer papers in one pass and several passes had to be made to get the excess trimmed accurately. Perhaps it may be helpful to have some diagonal lines through the gridded boxes to help with the alignment of the strips to be cut.

because the paper wasn’t clear or transparent. – Trimmer easily cut through 12 sheets of 20 lb paper. – A lightweight tool which made it easy to cart from desktop to tabletop in a fabric tote bag unlike the paper cutter from once upon a time which has heavy wood.

– Loved the safety guard lock to keep blade closed in transport away from little curious hands. – Was tempted to cut cardstock but didn’t want to overstress the limits of the blade, especially when it was nearing the end of the ream of assorted papers.

– Either the blade or I was getting tired and seemed to bend with some of the later cuts. Took a break and returned to complete the cutting task at hand. – Would recommend allowing time to space out the task into multiple parts, time permitting instead of doing the volume of the job.

– Would also like to have some tips to safeguard the sharpness of the cutting blade and troubleshooting to help with the multiple cuts on a single edge when paper exceeds the size of the 12″ surface.

I need a new blade for my paper cutter so I decided to pull this little cutie out to help me with an album that I was working on. It worked like a charm. My pages were cut straight. There were no raggedy edges.

All in all I’m going to use this with as many projects as I can. I love the fact that I don’t have to replace anything and the edges keep being straight and crisp. Nice go to tool.

This fell off my table onto carpet and the paper guide broke off. You really need that part. My corner chomper tool also broke one if’s wings off, they need to use metal instead of plastic. I don’t think they are made that well.

I love my new paper guillotine! It is far superior to my old sliding paper cutter. It is sharp, straight and accurate. Also it will cut the tiniest little sliver of paper, that surprised me and it helps make my cards perfect.

And lowering the guillotine is so satisfying lol!.

This is the type of cutter that you always used before those relatively inexpensive and lightweight razor blade type cutters became so popular. The blades on the circular razor blade cutters is great, for one paper and if you are able to get a new one after 50 pieces of paper.

Then, any heavy or multiple paper stack will not cut without pressure. This one is sharp, clean, and leaves no doubt if the cut is complete. The lines on the cutting board line up, the blade is well aligned to the cutting block, and the sound of each cut is pleasing to the ear.

This is a little more, but it’s good for the long haul.

I wanted a solid, easy to use, paper cutter like the one I used in school. I search many other websites and found many less quality and a few more complicated than this one(some have clamps and cut way more sheets at a time).

Since I only needed it to cut 1-5 at a time, this was exactly what I needed. Since it will cut more than my requirement, I believe it will last a long time. I also wanted something with a blade I could remove and sharpen instead of having to buy replaceable blades for one of the less quality cutters.

The one thing I wish this had is some sort of an indicator line that runs across the top of the paper precisely where the cut will be made. Otherwise, I just look straight down at the blade before I make the cut.

It does have a grid on the baseboard, which does help with squaring the sheet, but printers don’t often print exactly square on the paper, and when you are trying to cut, say, a birthday card out of the sheet, and you have cut lines to keep the design on the card squared up, it’s difficult to go with the lines on the paper, unless you have a good eye for it.

Other than that, it’s everything I expected and hoped for. I give it 5 stars, because I believe the price is right when compared to others in its class. Another thing that is very impressive is that it trims edges of thick or thin paper so cleanly.

It doesn’t matter how small the trim is, it can be half a millimeter!.

This trimmer takes a little bit of practice to make sure that you are cutting your paper straight. Make sure you have your paper lined up on the grid all of the way down and hold your paper securely with your left hand when you bring the cutter down.

Also, I found that if I am standing up I get a straighter cut too. Dont try to cut too many pieces of paper at once either. Youll get the feel for it though! I absolutely love this cutter! Another thing that I do is clamp a piece of wood on it to use as a stop so that you can just butt the paper up to the wood if youre cutting several pieces at the same size.

This cutter measures down to 1/8 so its pretty easy to see where your 1/16 would be. (Yes, I need to cut my paper that precise, Im that picky) I highly recommend this cutter!!!!.

WOW! This the larger size guillotine which is fabulous. I already owned the smaller guillotine and before long began to covet the larger size. The larger size seems so powerful and has solved my problem of cutting larger card and paper sizes accurately.

I like the extension arm too – very useful. I would recommend this size to anyone who has the storage space and budget. I wish I had purchased the larger guillotine in the first instance, but have to admit that I do find the smaller version very handy for smaller projects.

This guillotine replaces one that I’ve had for many years and so has a lot to live up to! The big battle is size, it’s a bigger bit of equipment for the same cutting sizes. So far so good, I’m trying to be open minded about the differences I’ve encountered – the blade has to be lifted higher than the beginning of the ruler to get a straight edge.

Not a fault, but a difference that my poor old brain has to remember! I like the scoring surface too, it’s been more useful than I thought, so the built in scoring tool is a great touch. Value? Given the amount I expect from a tool like this, it’s doing well and yep, good price.

I’ve been looking for a guillotine style paper cutter for a few weeks now but couldn’t find one that was both cute and functional…until this one! I saw this on preorder elsewhere in May 2021 with an expected availability in June.

I’m so glad I waited for this to go in stock instead of settling for other brands. I’ve only used it three times so far but the blade is sharp and it cuts well. I think the maximum I could cut at a time was 6-7 sheets of printer paper.

The cutting board is an off white (almost beige) and the handle is the signature We R Memories aqua blue. I would recommend it based on appearance alone if you’re in the market for a cutter and it works well so far!.

I absolutely love this trimmer! It cuts accurately and cleanly. The ruler lines running the entire length of the board are extremely helpful to ensure a straight cut. It is lightweight and has rubber feet for stability.

Multiple sheets are no problem, just be careful not to overload it.

I haven’t cut much with this yet, but I’m replacing an old wooden version that had no safety features. I am really impressed with the blade guard on this new one. Also impressed with the blade lock and the way the blade doesn’t protrude beyond the bottom of the side piece when locked and stored.

The paper cutter arrived quickly. It is sharp and well built. It meets my needs and I am glad I purchased it. Because of its small footprint however, it is a little light weight. I have to hold it down to the table when lifting the cutter arm.

Buying a bigger one would probably solve that minor problem. Also, when lifting the trimmer by the sides you could possibly cut your hand on the sharp blade which is slightly exposed. But, as with any sharp tool you need to be careful and handle it safely.

I was thrilled to see that X-acto makes this tool, and in such a large size. I read a lot of reviews and the complaints I saw seemed like minor enough issues that I thought it was worth a try. Man, I wanted to love it.

I included a video to illustrate why I’m not only NOT impressed, but actively disappointed: 1) The guide to keep the paper flush against the ruler to cut a 90 degree corner wasn’t attached with the level of accuracy I would expect from a paper cutter made specifically for large formats.

I need both hands to align each sheet for a perfect square, and can’t “lean” the sheet against the backstop to save time on measuring. 2) As previously mentioned by other reviewers, the lever arm doesn’t hold itself up, and is a risk not only to ill-placed fingers, but when the guide isn’t attached properly and YOU NEED BOTH HANDS TO ALIGN THE PAPER, you can’t use your non-existent third hand to hold the lever arm open while getting your page just so.

And so, the risk of ruining the project, or an even higher valued appendage, well, WTF X-acto? It is possible to tighten the bolt(s) at the elbow of the arm with a wrench, but the adjustment doesn’t hold.

Not in love with needing to “tend” to this thing on a regular basis right out of the box. 3) I got this thing 7 months ago, and today the arm’s blade sliced through a teeny bit of the under blade, because the blade stuck mide-slice and I finished the cut with too much force.

I use the cutter maybe 4 times a month on less than 20 sheets at a time (and cut thick pages individually), so I don’t think it sees much use and is still very sharp. I was able to remove the metal shard and flatten the lower blade back out with a chisel that I had on hand, but it was the thing that made me leave this review.

I came close to throwing the cutter out because it wasn’t closing all the way, just to the spot where the upper blade would catch on the imperfection on the lower blade. I think I’ve got it back to cutting a straight line, but now I’m not sure how soon I’m going to find myself replacing this thing.

All in all, this cutter saves me time, but not as much as it could if it was checked better for accuracy. And I already feel like I need to plan for a replacement. The size is great, it weighs enough to suggest I should get years of use from it, but I expected more in the way of accuracy and day to day functionality of use.

I still love other X-acto products, I just wish this one had been more reliable.

I was looking for a cutter that cuts thick paper, card board and chip board. I read all the reviews and descriptions of several and found one that said it would cut cardboard and card stock. IT DOES! It is light weight but sturdy and I like the safety feature that prevents the blade from being used.

As soon as I opened it, I tried cutting a stiff piece of cardboard and it sliced through so cleanly and quickly it startled me. I had used more strength than I needed! LOL! I tried cutting thick medium chip board and it cuts well with just a little muscle behind it.

I am very happy with it as I didn’t want to have to buy a large heavy and expensive trimmer.

I am a crafter and work with a lot of cardstock and vinyl of all different types. This paper cutter is awesome. It is bigger than the standard which makes it so much easier for larger than mat projects.

A typical mat project is 12×12 so this helps with those special orders. The blade is very sharp and can cut through 10 sheets at a time. The handle is conformed to fit normal hands and is comfortable to grab.

Even with having to use pressure it doesn’t hurt pushing down. The blade handle has a lock on it so you don’t have to worry about children touching the sharp edge. Fits great on the end of my desk and gets used daily.

This is a solidly built paper trimmer. The blade cuts well. I like the way it sits on the tabletop. The 1/2″ markings really help with keeping the paper edges straight.

Glad that I purchased this trimmer/cutter! It’s built strong, has just the right dimensions, and cuts like a guillotine! Should’ve looked for this a long time ago. Great office tool that’s for sure.

This cutter is nice looking, and the blade may be titanium, but the blade handle is sub standard metal. The metal broke at the base of the handle within three months, with little use.

Does the job. I wall mounted this, by putting up a 3/4 inch thick pine board and securing that to studs with 1/4 hex bolts and fender washers, and then attaching the cutter to the board, also with 1/4 hex bolts.

So far it seems secure. Loading is pretty simple, but heavy rolls of paper are a little effort to settle in. It took me 5 tries to load it correctly. I set it up about 4. 5 feet high, which is a little hard to get a good clear tear of craft paper.

I see that there is another version where the spring loaded cutter bar is serrated – maybe that would work better.

This arrived before the estimated delivery date. Light weight so it is easy to unpack and place on cutting service. No assembly required, just pull out assembled parts, insert rubber feet, and install your wrapping paper.

Now you are ready to use. Less wasted paper when using this cutter, easy to measure just how much paper you need for item to be wrapped. The cutter provides a very nice clean, straight edge so paper looks neat and provides a nice look for the wrapped package.

I am considering buying a second cutter to hold large rolls of ribbon.

Given the price I would expect this to be heavy duty–it’s not, it is very light weight. But it seems up to doing the job and in the short time I’ve had it there haven’t been any problems. There isn’t a cutter (I thought there was).

You just tear the paper along the side of the holder. The 40 lb. paper I use tears well so I’m happy with my purchase. Some instructions would be nice. It took us a while to figure out how to use and load the paper into this holder.

I already have one of these and pretty well finished my wrapping before I got the new one. My old one is getting dull. These are very safe and are so much faster and easier than scissors. As long as I can buy these, I will never use scissors for gift wrapping.

my wife lost two that’s why I replaced them because she loves the hell out of them for cutting her wrapping paper at Christmas time!!!!

I bought this trimmer for my art business where I cut various smaller paper products like notecards and certificates. The real drawback on this is locating the actual cutting edge (line). You can’t see any guide to where the blade will cut.

You have to guesstimate visually. It’s a real drawback. The cutter is very light because it’s basically plastic (lightweight plastic), so it seems very cheaply made. I bought it to cut laminated card stock, and it’s doing the job so far.

I wasn’t expecting much, but I was worse than my low expectations. Tried a single cut with one piece of paper. Fine. Two pieces of paper, blade bound up. Arm didn’t stay out of the cutting areas you had to hold it up while trying to position the paper you’re trying to cut.

Got two pieces of paper – 28lb laser color copies – paper slid by the endow the cut. Just utter garbage. On my way to Staples now to return it and reprint the pages it ruined.

I bought this paper cutter for cutting up watercolor paper. It was easy to assemble – just screw the handle on the cutting arm and install the paper guide in the slider slot. And super easy to use. Nice clean cuts, even on my thicker watercolor paper.

And it sounds like it will stay sharp with a “perpetual edge self-sharpening blade”. ! It will cut up to 10 sheets of regular paper. I like the sleek design. Memories of the old guillotine paper cutter with a wooden handle in the art room in high school, but with a modern twist.

Where has this been all my life? These are so handy and make wrapping presents a breeze! They hold the roll of paper in place while you pull out the amount you need, then you can easily cut the paper to size.

The tape is right there, so you don’t have to hunt for it. I will say that it is a bit difficult to remove the empty tape cylinder from the holder. The plastic tabs are hard to squeeze in while also trying to grab the plastic tape cylinder in a small area and pull it over the tabs.

But other than that, this device is a wonderful time saver and wrapping helper.

Talk about money well spent! I like wrapping presents but I was always that “put tape and scissors down and then can’t find them,” person. What the heck? I JUST had them!Enter Wrap Buddies. They helped me to keep things organized and within reach.

I like how they can clamp on any table and make gift-wrapping a breeze! Best $20 I’ve spent. Wrap Buddies = Genius!.

I’ve been wanting something like this for YEARS. The tape part doesn’t work as well but that’s no big deal to me. But this thing is so helpful in holding the wrapping paper. It’s so easy to set up as well as change the wrapping paper rolls.

It definitely helps keep the roll from moving around, especially when you get towards the end.

Well worth having. Usually look at a roll of paper and think it would be just as easy to unroll by hand, however having this set-up really does make the process so much easier. Plus eases cross contamination by not having to handle the roll just the piece of paper you are using at that moment.

all and all its great but the little rubber tabs for it to sit on do not stay in place

Bought this a couple years ago. And it still serves its purpose.

It’s solid, except for the movable, plastic square backstop thinger which doesn’t work well (and I knew that from reading other reviews). The safety features are great. The metal thing at the top that is supposed to be square to the blade was not, and it wasn’t placed to allow the full 18 inch cut, so I removed it.

the metal base is square so I just stuck some magnetic photos from the fridge to the top edge and use an L square against that to line things up. The grid/measurement markings aren’t quite accurate to the blade so I printed my own grid on paper to cover what it came with.

The blade was covered with black paint when it arrived but it wears off the more cuts you make (I suggest making slivers of a few sheets of scrap paper and wiping the blade and table clean before cutting something important because the black comes off in tiny crumbs and dust that get on everything and leave smudges).

The rubber holder thing on the automatic whatsit didn’t hold the paper firmly beyond eight inches or so and wasn’t long enough, so I removed that too and replaced it with a piece of wood with foam padding tape underneath from an old construction project (not attached to the wood because as you press the cutter arm down, the automatic paper holder thing shifts slightly and it was moving the paper out of place a tiny bit, even with the rubber arm, but it doesn’t shift the paper with the foam unattached).

I think that’s it. It works great with the adjustments I made, but those were considerable and you might not want to buy it if you’re particular about accuracy and don’t have the skills and materials to adjust things that aren’t exact.

I use this product mainly for cropping photographs, and card making. It’s essential that I get even cuts, that are clean and straight. It does a good job in all categories I use it for, but there are a couple of areas I would like to change if I could.

One, the lever must be pulled all the way up to make it stay, a problem that results in my having to make extra adjustments to avoid it coming down on my project, and head. The second issue I have is the small valley that is on the platform where it ends, and the cutting edge starts.

I find it tends to cause the photo paper to slip into that small dip. When I then lift the lever up to release the paper, it gets caught between the lever and platform, some what bending the photo paper.

I realize this may seem to be nit-picking, but it is issue I have. It is still the best over all paper cutter I have used.

For a smallish trimmer this model is quite heavy and very sturdy. It stays put. I can see why some reviewers were put off by the feature where a bar holds down the paper. This takes some getting used to.

I also didn’t like this feature. I also didn’t like that it was black. It should be clear. I also didn’t like the black edge on the cutting edge of the board. I have an adjustable lamp- I aimed the light so that it backlit the paper and I could see exactly where the cut would be.

It was slow at first- getting used to that bar. I’d rather not have this bar- or make it an optional part that could be removed. Also, this bar is NOT square with the cutter blade which took some getting used to.

I chop a LOT of paper- I’m good at “eyeballing” measurements- maybe some people aren’t. I’d rather just hold the paper manually, I don’t need this bar, and I haven’t lost any fingers to date. However after a day of use I got used to this thing.

It did slow me down quite a bit at first. Once I got used to it I have to admit that the cuts were very accurate. The blade arm is rather heavy and “stiff” which I like. I don’t like a loose, floppy blade.

I have trouble with rotary trimmers so I prefer a blade arm. I have a weak wrist, poor eyesight and I’m operating this with one hand- my left. Most trimmers are not made for leftys or one armed users.

Having the paper held in place was good. My advice: if you are not used to cutting with this paper securing device- take the time to get used to it. Don’t assume it’s bad or get impatient with it. Advice to manufacturer: make this black bar clear or better: make it removable.

Some people don’t need it.

was looking for a home version of the trimmer I had at work – for anyone familiar with trimmers, you can’t press down at all on the safety guard to help lay the paper flat against the mat while it cuts – tried to cut a 12 x 10 sheet down to letter size and it just completely butchered the paper – I could get a clean cut if I took off the safety guard and held a ruler down, but then you’re working with no safety guard and just a super sharp guillotine blade, not great.

Annoyed b/c this item was really well reviewed, but then after realizing this didn’t work at all, I went back and looked more closely, and almost every single review was collected as part of a promotion by the manufacturer.

So – just want to flag this for people who are looking for something decent, save yourself the energy of a return and DO NOT BUY THIS TRIMMER.

The purpose of this is to cut a straight line. It fails in doing that effectively. I should have returned this before the deadline. I am literallty going to have to find a better one of these. Waste of money.

I see that they are not available I hope they never stock these again.

This is the only paper trimmer I’ve ever used that will actually cut through a stack of 15 20# sheets and do it cleanly without pulling and tearing the paper. The cutter blade is quite sharp and the blade stays in close contact with the mating cutting surface throughout its entire travel, which means it cuts as cleanly at the bottom of the stroke as it does at the top.

It also cuts cleanly when you want to trim a very small amount off the edge of a paper, without bending or tearing the paper’s edge. One interesting thing I noticed is that the cutting blade has screws to attach it to the handle.

So, it seems reasonable that you could actually remove the blade to sharpen it, if ever needed. I like the build quality and operation of this trimmer and would recommend it to anyone as a worthwhile purchase.

I love this papercutter!! It is sharp but has all the safety guards to make you feel safe. The guards are visible but they are not in the way when use this cutter. The blade is super sharp and cuts through at least 20 sheets of paper with ease.

The board is a bit over sized, but comes in handy when cutting paper larger in size than a legal sheet of paper. If you cut cardstock and different types of paper in your daily routine, you need to get you one of these papercutters.

It must be the titanium. This is the best most precise cutter ever. Cuts thick pieces to very thin. The preciseness of the cutting blade also lets me trim tiny edges off my papers without destroying the shape of the paper.

The plastic guard keeps finger safe and away from the blade while also allowing to hold the paper in place. Great tool for any crafter.

I teach middle school art and needed a new paper cutter, as I’m required to cut paper frequently. The top bar (stop guide) of this cutter, the part that you push your paper up against, is not secure enough to the main board, and so your paper slides under it when you’re trying to align it squarely to cut.

I’ve attempted to fix the problem by putting tape down to prevent the paper from sliding under the stop guide, but now my paper gets hung up on the tape. Disappointing–I’d send it back, but I accidentally threw the box away before I realized the problem, so now I’m resigned to live with it.

I really like this cutter. With the paper/cloth/film placed up against the upper horizontal stop, It cuts reasonably straight and square. If I instead use the grid to square the paper, and apply finger pressure to the paper at the top and bottom of the cut, I get the best straight and square cuts.

It’s a heavy beast, and best stored where it can be used without carrying it from one place to another. I was pleased to find that the blade stays up when it is lifted (the amount of holding friction is adjustable).

That lets me use both hands while I place the material to be cut exactly where I want it. I found out the hard way that the grid is just an ink-printed image, and is easily dissolved if solvent touches it.

I asked for and will receive a replacement cutter from X-Acto. I will be covering it’s grid with a transparent pvc sheet to protect against accidental solvent spills or other damage.

This is a great little trimmer, and a vast improvement over the rotary-style cutter we were using previously. The self-sharpening blade is terrific and makes a very clean cut. The blade lock is also very nice to have.

Cons: -I could NOT cut more than one sheet of card stock at a time without the top sheet sliding (even when trying to hold it down firmly), which was disappointing, but it will cut a stack of regular-weight paper.

Due to the ease of cutting, I was still able to cut 250 separate sheets fairly quickly. -The measurements are not as precise as I would like, so I had to make some adjustments to my document to compensate.

-The top edge does not seem perfectly parallel to the horizontal measurement lines, so it’s easy to end up with a stack of cards that aren’t exactly the same size. It’s not a very noticeable difference, though, and didn’t affect our project.

All in all, given our budget, we’re very happy with this product.
