20 Best Xbox Modded Controller (2022 Updated)

*disclaimer* I can only compare to my previous controller the Razer Wolverine Ultimate. I have not used an Elite Series 2, any Scuf, Turtle Beach etc. This may be considerably better than those I don’t know.

My wolverine ultimate A button stopped working and apparently Razer doesn’t make that controller anymore so I settled for the V2 Chroma which hasn’t impressed me near as much as the wolverine ultimate did.

My first and biggest grip. the start and select buttons are in a HORRENDOUS location. I mean look at where they are and think about trying to use those buttons in tense moments when you need to get in and out of a menu as quick as possible.

This issue is exacerbated by the fact that this controller is stretched out horizontally more than the previous controller (more resemblant of a PS controller) so now you have to reach to push the buttons and on the left side you have to go OVER the stick.

terrible. Finish of the controller doesn’t feel nearly as good as the wolverine ultimate – it feels like lighter, cheaper plastic. The grips on the backside of the wolverine ultimate were a nice soft rubber, but on this one it’s no more than a knurled plastic that just rubs on your hand and makes it feel raw after gaming for extended amounts of time.

The sticks are good, the D pad is circular now but the button stroke is much longer to use it. Similar to the D pad is the A, B, X, and Y buttons. You still get the mechanical click but that’s pointless if the stroke feels just as long as the standard xbox controller.

It’s just a longer (time) commitment to push these buttons now. The strokes were very short and quick on the wolverine ultimate. Apparently input lag is really good (low) on this but unless your controller is a potato I really don’t think you’ll notice it that much.

or if your controller just has bad wireless software/hardware. I’m not sure what they were thinking on this, I’ll probably return it soon because I expect better for the price to be honest.

The controller is a brilliant 4/5 with only some minor collective details costing it a point. I use this controller connected to a PC and use it for games such as Call of duty, rocket league and a few other games.

I bought it as I play both cod and rocket league in highly competitive matches. Let’s start with the pro’s – the weight of this thing is just right, not to light it moves when you pull triggers but no so heavy you want to put it down after a couple of hours.

– it looks very nice, great sleek look with slim RGB’s – the main buttons (lettered) are a real pleasure to press, clicky and snappy makes it really reactive, hair triggered too so you won’t need to slam your thumb down, just a quick tap and you got it, but strong enough so you don’t accidentally jump in the middle of sneaking.

– the thumb sticks are brilliant, they’re really nice and smooth on rotation but strong on the centre so when you let go they snap back into place, no concern of drifting here, you also get the choice of short sticks or long sticks (preference on aiming in FPS) and they can be changed in an instant due to magnets.

– the triggers are what I fell in love with, on rocket league I can use the full 100% trigger pull and control my speed, then by switching to a 25% pull I can change it to a mouse click for games like call of duty.

This is a HUGE bonus for me as it makes firing a gun that much quicker. – wired, I personally love a wired controller, no worries about lag, drop out, batteries and the cable is a hard standing braided USB C high speed cable.

-the paddles. Now, another main reason why I bought this was because of the paddles. Having a jump button, a rotate or whatever I want on the back means so much. This means my thumbs stay on the thumb sticks.

I never have to stop aiming to reload or bounce around a corner or use boost. This is huge!!! I personally don’t mind that they’re upright paddles (this means they don’t go off to the side but they more face directly down) and they stand off the controller meaning I can rest my fingers on them easily, however.

My hands are the size of a meteors so others may be put off by this. Now let’s talk about where it dropped the points. – Software, the PC software is… ok. Nothing amazing but not something that’s impossible to use.

It’s easy to adjust and create profiles but what would be amazing would be if it had some sort of sharing profiles so that I can upload a profile to the world, or simply download one. – this one is small but it matters to me, the start and select button are in really weird places, offset at a diagonal angle meaning your thumbs have to learn a new location for something they’ve become Used to over years, causing you to occasionally look down meaning you’re not in the game.

– no carry case, this might not seem huge especially if you’re like me and don’t take your controllers out much. But it means I have no where proper to store the additional thumb sticks. Sure I can buy a case but that’s another £25.

I haven’t used the headphone slot due to my headphones being plugged into a rig, but from what I can see it’s a solid 10/10, you can control chat volume compared to game volume and overall volume but pressing a couple of buttons.

That’s huge and I would 100% use it if I had too. Overall I would 100% recommend this product giving it an easy 9/10. I’ve used the Xbox elite controller and these two controllers are very close but I much prefer this one purely due to the build quality and overall feel.

This controller works with current Xbox Consoles and Windows PCs. The App is the same for both platforms available through the Microsoft Store. It allows a lot of control over the Chroma lighting on the controller.

The app allows customization of the extra triggers and buttons, allowing customization of the controls outside of a game’s own button customization options. The dedicated Audio config button, below the SHARE button, allows on the fly mixing of the levels of both in game volume and chat volumes, individually.

I like the feel of the controller, the thing that took the most to get use to was the position of the menu buttons to the left and right of the home button. I love the hair trigger slider for both main trigger buttons, helps with some control schemes in games.

I was initially skeptical that the magnetic thumbstick hats would be secure enough, but they have never accidentally came off. The ability to switch to a taller hat on one thumbstick is nice, that and being able to switch one thumbstick between concave and convex on a controller is nice.

I keep the nice box the controller came in, partially to keep the not in use Hats in a safe place. The main X, Y, B, A button press feeling is different from standard xbox controllers, has a bit more resistance and a click, with a more solid feeling.

The D-pad is more precise and clicky than a standard controller, also with a tiny bit more resistance, not as much as the difference in the X, Y, B, A buttons, but noticeable. The controller is of course corded only with no batteries or wireless ability.

The cord is of a good length and is USB C on the controller and USB A on the other end. All in All, this is a very nice configureable controller with very nice lighting option to match up with the rest of your LED light setup on Xbox and PC.

I would recommend whole heartedly.

I do not write reviews on the things I buy, even when they are nightmare purchases. This controller has compelled me to finally review something I have purchased. I have owned many custimizable/paddle controllers (Elite series 1 & 2, PS4 & Xbox Scufs, Fusion Pros v1 & 2, Steam controller, Astro C40, and the steelseries stratus) and let me tell you.

The Wolverine Ultimate is the only controller I will purchase for the foreseeable future! The analog sticks are incredibly nice, smooth and accurate to the point where I would turn off aim assist playing on PC and do absolutely fine because micro adjusting your aim is so easy.

The tactile switch ABXY buttons feel like butter when I press them and do not activate over easily like with the elite series. The paddles are placed in such a way that if you didn’t use paddles or were playing something you don’t use them you would never touch the paddles and forget that they were there.

They are in a spot that paddle usually aren’t placed but once you get used to the position they are easily and comfortably pressed and easy to press so you don’t have to strain to hard. Big fan of the position of the extra bumper buttons as well.

I play ALOT of Rocket League and anyone who has played it knows how difficult it can be to dribble the ball in the air for long periods. Before this controller the longest I was able to keep the ball on my car was 30 secs and I could never touch it again no matter which controller or sensitivity I use.

With this controller I blew my record out of the water with 45+ secs the next 4 times since getting used to the controller. Overall this controller is a godsend for controller players and WILL improve your accuarcy/gameplay.

Only complaint I have is the configuration app for PC but its still not bad enough to warrant any less stars for this controller.

Not quite as good as the Elite Series 2, but it’s a solid controller. It’s a little big. The back buttons might be a little too far for some. But overall it’s a great controller. A definite upgrade from the previous Razer controller, the Wildcat.

I’ve used a number of pro style controllers (elite 2, razer wildcat, razer wolverine v2, powerA fusion 1 and 2, Nacon revolution X) and this is my 2nd favorite. The wolverine v2 has better ergonomics, but lacks the programmable buttons to make it worth using.

I originally tried the Wolverine Ultimate when it first came out but returned it. At release it was not compatible with the Xbox Accessories App, meaning it couldn’t be configured at the system level for games that failed to offer adequate control schemes (like pubg).

But now that I’m on Series S a few years later the Ultimate works exactly as I would expect on both my console and laptop.

I’ve owned 2 elite series 2 controllers and they both had build quality issues. The first a vibration/ haptic feedback problem. The second had the right shoulder button problem. I’ve never dropped or thrown my controllers so you can imagine my frustration with equipment I’m gentle with malfunctioning.

Frustrated, I researched carefully, looking for a decent alternative that would fit my fps and racing needs. Apart from the scuf instinct pro nothing seemed like a good fit. I decided to return to bestbuy and try something new – The Razer Ultimate.

At first I was a little displeased with the lack of wireless connectivity but that faded as soon as I felt the snappiness in the game- as soon as tap the jump, shoot, duck buttons it’s already happened.

On top of that is the tactility of those buttons… my God what an improvement over standard controller buttons. I actually want something to happen in the game so I can press buttons to respond. People complain about the placement of the paddles but I honestly don’t mind them.

I never accidentally hit them and I simply place my middle finger on them when needed – I really don’t see why people hate on them. Enough gushing, what are my gripes. Well I wish it was usb c and not microusb.

Second, the build materials could be more deluxe but it’s not horrible at all. Owning the elite series 2 made my bar kinda high but honestly I have zero regrets owning this controller so far. Give it a go, if you don’t love it bring it back for something else.

Simple.

I love it. It’s a decent build quality, and for the price I can’t complain. If I paid a little more, I would have gone with something with a grip on the back. But I personally love the RGB and the smoothness of the controller.

Plus the actually controls are very responsive. All around good controller. Works for both Windows PC and Xbox One and Xbox Series consoles. It is wired, even though the cord can be unplugged from the controller, it does NOT have any wireless functions.

If you want a wireless controller just get the standard Xbox controller.

I prefer the Xbox One controller to my Series X controllers, and the PUBG controller is one of the scared few with textured trigger grips,, which I wanted. This controller was sold to “as is”, and it certainly wasn’t perfect.

The “A” button felt mushy, so I had to take the whole controller apart to replace the internal membrane. From the outside, the controller looked grungier than any of my own which I could not tell from the pictures, and when I took it apart, the controller was absolutely disgusting.

The previous owner did not care for the controller very well, and appears to have had a pet of some kind based on all of the hair that I found. After a lot of q-tips, rubbing alcohol, and some care, it is probably in the best shape in years.

The PUBG controller is excellent, even if I don’t particularly care for its color scheme.

I originally bought this controller as a gift for my brother. He loved it (still does) and it started helping him get better. I then had to get one for myself, and I began feeling a difference in my gameplay as well.

It feels great in your hands, bigger than the standard xbox controller, but that doesn’t mean you need big hands to use it; my hands are very average sized. I play 2-3 nights a week regularly, and a lot more over the summer, with a year passed, i still have not experienced any issues in the slightest.

The cord is long, feels durable, and literally has never once tangled for me. The buttons are very clicky (idk how else to say it) and responsive. And if I did begin to experience drift stick (which I have not after a year) then I can simply replace the analog sticks in seconds.

It’s simply amazing. I recommend it to anyone who plays regularly. I could ramble on for a while about how much I like this controller.

Horrible. Definitely not a soft grip controller. It was hard plastic. Not at all what I expected. Definitely not worth the 100 spent for this. After contacting twice, got no response each time. Would not purchase again.

Purchased a controller was delivered very quickly was excited to have my first mod controller put in batteries and synchronized the controller to find it was broken stuck in a downward and slightly left so could not move just keep spinning in a circular motion and can not move your character in any way just spinning.

Trying to return this product has been unsuccessful as seeing it’s not from Wal-Mart and if you try to go to return page there is nothing to help. E mailed the company that claim to respond with in 24hrs been a few days and no response.

Would definitely recommend spending a few extra dollars and not buy this controller looks like I’m out the 90 dollars.

Unintuitive on how to switch modes. Difficult, and time consuming to switch from one mode to another. LEDs aren’t blue, and even on the lowest setting the rapid fire is caught by COD. It’s not infinitely variable rapid fire only presets are available and even the lowest setting is easily detected by most modern games.

Waste of time and money. Don’t buy this.

I’ll try and focus this review on the things I think are useful that people want to know. I’ve had the controller about 1 week, and used it for a good several hrs each day. I don’t play competitive and don’t thrash the controller around.

Been playing twin stick with reasonable amount of trigger usage, and some coverage of all other buttons including the infamous Y button. So far I have had no issues, no double clicks, or missed clicks etc.

Both sticks are perfectly tracking as shown in the xbox accessories software. And the response curve on the triggers is also as it should be. The trigger adjustments work as expected and feel solid, but by the same token I wouldn’t be too rough with them when shortened.

The stick tension provides three settings, standard, firm, and extra firm. This worked fine for me, but I’ll be sticking with standard. Accessories: I love the convenience of the charging stand and case it comes with The different stick options are a plus and easy to swap, but I will probably just use the default ones.

The faceted (default) dpad has a nice action, but for me the + dpad is the better choice and has a decisive response! The paddles work fine, easy to remove if desired, I do use them with a couple of remappings (view and left bumper in my case).

IMO, the new white elite 2 controller could have at least been a consideration if it had the + dpad and the paddles. Software/Other: I use the controller on PC coupled with the wireless adapter (got mine from Noel Leeming) The XBox accessories app works as expected and allows me to setup the profiles.

You can remap all functionality on the controller, but only to existing actions the controller supports. SO. – No keyboard mappings – Doesn’t allow a mapping for the “Share” button found on newer xbox controllers.

I think (hope) both those shortfalls will be resolved in a future firmware update, it sounds like keyboard mappings was possible on older firmware! (Steam cannot get around the keyboard mapping issue at least not on the paddles, reWASD might be able to??).

My current firmware is 5. 13. 3146. 0 Quality concerns: There is a lot of discussion about maybe QC issues with the controller, it almost put me off getting one. So far I have not encountered any issues, and for a premium product you would expect not to! What helped me buy one was to research the issues people had with other controllers and brands to get a sense of how often people have issues with controllers in general.

But ymmv. For people in NZ some peace of mind may be gained from reading the consumer guarantees act, and understanding what the rules of it are, I would expect MS/MA to be complaint with the act without too much fuss, but know your rights.

That also helped me to have some confidence that if there were issues I could elevate the concern and not simply be fobbed off with a refurb or whatever. With all of this said – I’ve only had it a week to replace my older xbox one gen 3 controller that was kaput.

If I remember I will try and update/re-review this in a year and or if I encounter issues before then. But otherwise I am glad I got one, and on sale too :).

This is a 5* pro controller for sure. I play a fighting game called brawlhalla on it and let me tell you what. Switching from elite 2 this is a huge upgrade. The is absolutely no delay , lightning fast response.

Allows me to jump faster, fall quicker , hit faster. Virtually no delay it’s amazing it’s like going from 30fps , to 120fps it’s that noticable. Yes it’s wired but that’s what you want in pro controller honestly.

I’m a few hours into it and it’s a learning curve Because it makes stuff so responsive that if you played with wireless controller you are a bit slow and didn’t even know. But the curve is done and now I have a huge advantage because of this.

So I personally love this controller and there’s so many little features I didn’t mention, rgb light, back paddle, and a extra trigger button beside left bumper and right it’s amazing highly recommend.

I hope it last a long time.

I’ve been using my Pro X controller for a few days now, and I’m satisfied overall, but I was really hoping for something to fully take the place of my failing Elite II controller, and I have to say that this isn’t it.

There are definitely some nice features, like the changeable weights for the handles (makes a much bigger difference than I expected), customizable light colors for the right thumb stick, and variable vibration rates for each hand.

Unfortunately, it also falls short in a lot more areas than those it excels in. First, the programmable buttons on the grips. The smaller, higher button works great. It’s located where my fingers naturally fall, and it’s not cumbersome to use them.

No complaints there. But the larger, lower buttons are another matter. Compared to the very easy-to-press paddles of the Elite controller, the Pro X buttons require a much more effortful squeeze with purposely placed fingers.

Not at all feasible for a button you might need to press with precision. Maybe useful for navigating menus, but you won’t be making use of it during tense gameplay moments. But, if you’re like my wife, who hates the Elite paddles because she holds her controller in a way that makes her prone to pressing them accidentally, maybe that’s not a drawback for you.

Second, the button to switch controller profiles is in a spot on the back of the controller that is entirely too easy to hit. Nothing worse than having a button suddenly and unexpectedly serving a different purpose right when you need it.

Third, there is not a way to adjust the range of the trigger pull. You CAN customize the activation point and sensitivity of the trigger in the settings app, but you can’t shorten the physical range of the trigger pull the way you can with the sliders on the Elite.

That’s not a flaw with the Pro X controller of course, it’s not as though they ever pretended otherwise. But it’s a feature that the Elite has which the Pro X lacks, and that’s my whole point. Fourth, the accessories included with the controller include spacers which can be placed around the stem of the control sticks which shorten the range of motion in the sticks.

This would be a great inclusion if there was an easy, intuitive way to recalibrate the controller to recognize the shortened range of motion and still give you full responsiveness in the game, but there isn’t.

You will simply not be able to tilt your stick fully in the direction you need. There may be a way to play with the very technical, advanced settings that can be adjusted in the settings app to achieve this, but a simple drop down menu that allows you to note which spacer is in place and makes adjustments automatically is what would be needed for most players, and no such option exists.

Finally, the controller is wired. That’s as advertised, of course, but when the controller falls short in several key areas, it’s much harder to overlook than if it had been the only shortfall of the controller.

This may be the better choice for very high level gamers who can actually make use of the reduced latency of a wired controller and the extremely technical options that can be customized. But for the casual gamer who just wants a high quality, semi-customizable controller with useful extra features, now that the Elite is only $40 more expensive, you’re better off just scraping together the extra $40.

Overall this is a good wired controller simular to the Revolution controllers for the Playstation. As an Xbox gamer I was pleased that Nacon released this controller. The build quality is nice and as with each other Nacon Revolution controller it comes in a carrying case which also has the extra weights (10,14 and 16 grams) and also 2 domed sticks and a few sets extra ALPS in different thicknesses.

These ALPS might be handy if you need to limit your move in certain games like rally WRC if your car reacts to oversensitive. I would have loved to see the extra sets of sticks in different heights as these are really handy for aiming with FPS games as that can really help with the suttle movement required for aiming down site or aiming with a sniper.

The ALPS and joysticks are easily replaced by simply pulling them off, these are not magnetically attached like with an Xbox Elite controller. Keep in mind that the back buttons on the controller can be remapped to anything you want and also the RGB can be customized with Revolution X software.

This sofware can also customize the sensitivity of the sticks and triggers. For the RGB lovers out there Nacon would have probably needed to add more color options for the RGB ring round the right joystick but this is a personal preference.

So I was a little tired of worrying about the charge on my wireless controller, and wanted something to help take the lag out of my gaming (I need all the help I can get!) – I really liked the customization options on this controller, from remapping the buttons, to the rear button layout, to the ability to add different weights to the two sides of the controller to make it feel better and more balanced during play.

Really smart design with simple pop off panels in each palm grip area where included weights snap right into place. Makes the controller feel more premium in my opinion with the added weight. Cord length is sufficient for me (but I’m on a high performance gaming PC) Dolby Atmos and a good set of headphones is a game changer – you hear every detail and can really locate in space where your enemies are! Highly recommend this controller.

Plug and play of course, but the additional software allows for complete functionality and customization. Quality and build feels super solid.

To make things clear: do not waste your time looking for anything else than official Controller S for original Xbox. This is the device built when Microsoft did invest money into the project. It is high quality an superb ergonomics, but at a relatively very low price.

There is nothing else on the market that matches its quality and price. Do not waste your time with crappy Xbox 360 gamepads that were totally screwed up by design (digital pad not responsive by design fault).

Don’t waste your time hunting for PC gamepads of the same quality. If they exist, you will not be able to get replacement parts like rubber caps. You can easily replace rubber caps on Controller S with 360 caps.

Controller S is the leading gamepad even in 2017. Best price/quality ratio.

OG xbox controller. Works as it should. No issues.. Priced lower than others. Great buy and very happy with it.

The OG Xbox was a great console, but the original controller was a beast. This S Model is much better. If you like the 360 controller (and who wouldn’t) you’ll love this one. The D-pad might be a little better here than on the 360 controller as well.
