20 Best Xfinity Cable Box (2022 Updated)

I purchase the Motorola MG8725 AX6000 cable modem router as a replacement for the Netgear CAX80-100NAS AX6000. These two devices offer similar specifications. They both tout AX6000 Wi-Fi 6 connectivity and both have gigabit (1gbps) and multi-gigabit (2.

5gbps) LAN ports. I am a Comcast Xfinity customer who recently upgraded to the Extreme Pro 1200 plan and needed to upgrade my DOCSIS 3. 0 cable modem to a DOCSIS 3. 1 cable modem to take advantage of the speed in my new plan.

While the Netgear CAX80 suffers from wired connectivity problems, the Motorola MG8725 excelled. The CAX80 would randomly drop my wired connection from its 2. 5GbE port from my PC ruining gaming experiences and downloads.

This occurs only when using the 2. 5GbE port on the cable modem and a 2. 5GbE port on my PC. However, on Netgear’s community page, many users complained of the same issue and suggest that disabling the Wi-Fi on the device would “fix” the issue; and it did.

But that is crippling my $500 experience. The MG8725 does not make me suffer from choosing fast Wi-Fi 6 or fast 2. 5GbE connections. In short, it just works, as advertised. It also costs $100 less than that of Netgear’s offering/solution.

The set up was very easy and straight forward. The device has more customization options and I feel more in control of what my device can do according to my preferences. It’s a great start to a new relationship between me and Motorola.

If you’re looking for a device that can provide a strong, fast, wireless network while also allowing you to access above 1000mbps speeds through a wired connection, give this device a chance. From my experience, you won’t be disappointed.

I bought this modem (Motorola MT7711) because it advertised download speeds over LAN and WiFi much greater than my subscribed cable speed of 400 Mbps (from Comcast). While the speed test showed that its speed on LAN (when a computer is connected to the modem using LAN cable) matched my cable’s subscribed speed on both IPv4 and IPv6, its speed on 5 GHz WiFi (at the maximum possible WiFi bandwidth of 80 MHz) is less than half (about 175 Mbps) of the subscribed speed (400 Mbps) over IPv6.

Please note that applications by default use IPv6, not IPv4, so it is very important that it gives the full speed on IPv6. Only when the speed test is forced to use IPv4 that it gives the subscribed speed (400 Mbps) on 5 GHz WiFi (when using 80 MHz WiFi bandwidth).

This behavior is very consistent and is clearly a software issue (the problem only happens on 5 GHz WiFi on IPv6, not on 5 GHz WiFi on IPv4). Also, it looks like the maximum speed that this modem can ever give on 5 GHz WiFi on IPv6 (at the maximum 80 MHz WiFi bandwidth), irrespective of how high is the cable’s subscribed speed, is about 175 Mbps.

When reached out to Motorola, their only response (besides having me do a modem reset, which made no difference) was to swap out the modem with another one (which they said could also be a refurbished one).

But that is not going to solve the problem. Since it is a software problem, it needs to be fixed in the software. Despite repeated requests, Motorola did not show any interest in doing the software fix.

Unfortunately, I discovered this critical issue after the 14 day return period; so I am stuck with it. It is so disappointing to be relegated to less than half of the subscribed speed due to this software issue with the modem, which Motorola has no interest in fixing.

First I tried the Arris G36 which is fast and has a strong signal when it works but setting it up with the app or web interface was basically impossible as both lose connection with the router randomly.

I couldn’t even change the DHCP lease time with it. The settings indicated I had changed the lease time but every 24 hours the lease for all of my smart devices would renew anyway. The last straw was when it reset itself to factory default for no apparent reason while I was at work losing all of the settings I had managed to change.

Then I tried the Netgear Nighthawk AX2700, what a complete piece of garbage it ended up being. It never worked so I contacted their customer support which I’m pretty sure a random person working the drive-thru at McDonalds would be more knowledgeable.

I couldn’t get any devices to connect to the Netgear unless I disabled DHCP and gave everything static IPs. Netgear’s bright idea for me to solve this issue was for me to change my SSID which I had had the same one for over 10 years.

Not sure how that would have helped anyway so I returned it to the store as well. Finally I tried the Motorola MT8733, apparently the 3rd time is the charm. I could not be more impressed. In about 15 or 20 minutes from taking it out of the box I was online with everything set the way I wanted.

The WiFi is stong and fast! I also tested the wired speed from one of the ethernet ports and I’m getting 1 Gbps. I’ve had a landline for years but I’ve never actually used it. Since the MT8733 has two phone line ports I hooked up a phone to it and that works great as well.

There isn’t much to the Motosync app outside of some parental controls, pausing your WiFi, and other basic functions. But everything you need if you want to adjust some settings like say your DHCP lease time can be found on the web interface (192.

168. 0. 1) This modem/router is a little pricier than the other two I mentioned but if you’re wanting to upgrade to Wifi6 or DOCSIS 3. 1 then this is your device. The biggest pro to me was how easy it was to set up as it actually worked the way it’s supposed vs the other two products.

Besides that it just works, it also looks great sitting on my dresser.

I bought this device to replace the one I was renting from xfinity to cut back on my monthly costs. It was very easy and quick to set up and activate with xfinity, and I am not educated at all when it comes to this technical stuff.

I did it all through the Netgear Nighthawk app. If you set up the network with the same name and password you used with your previous setup all of your devices will reconnect as though nothing had changed.

My only issue (which is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5) was after the initial setup, while watching streaming video, I received a message on my TV that I had lost internet connection. But it resolved itself on its own in less than 2 minutes.

It happened one more time a few hours later but hasn’t happened again since, and I have had it set up for about a week now. If I don’t receive the internet connection error again I will change my rating to 5 stars if I am able to.

I would recommend anyone who is renting equipment from their provider to buy their own equipment, specifically this device, since it is so easy to set up and is working well. You can set up a monthly plan and own it in less than a year while paying less than you currently are to rent it.

After you own it you start saving about $15/month. It’s worth the investment. I wish I had done it sooner.

This was probably the best purchase we made for our household within our first few months moving there. We went through three of the standard issue xfinity modem’s within the span of a couple of weeks because they ALL had the same problem.

The internet would cut out constantly when using a wired connection (???) but worked perfectly for wifi. After trying with them, we concluded their modem was the issue and decided to take the plunge and buy this one.

It was kind of on the pricey end but not bank breaking (depending on your budget), but it worked amazingly after we got it set up. Setup is easy enough if you read the directions provided. Wired connection never dipped or cut out and the wifi was perfect as usual.

As someone who both works from home and games, this purchase was certainly worth it. It’s been two years since we got it and (so far) it still works great.

I upped my xfinity subscription past my old router’s 600mbps so I bought this. So far it’s doubled my upstairs speed (5mb to 10wifi). And my phone gets 256 on WiFi while leaning on the modem. I would like to see more controls for time of use and access.

It’d be nice to be able to lockout the kids at a certain time so they’re not hiding under the covers surfing the web at 2am or to be able to cut them off from WiFi until their chores were done. I should be able to cut them off with the genie app or nighthawk app but they don’t always let me log in and the nighthawk app lacks A LOT of the genie’s functionality.

I like the one source printer share app when it works but I often have to dink with the control app on the source computer. Overall a decent device but I’d have taken it back if it wasn’t 1 of 3 products I found that had all my needed functions.

I have had my modem/router for two years without incident until recently. I Purchased this because I did not want to have to pay a rental fee every month to the cable company. Recently I had trouble connecting to the Internet and the cable company assured me it was not on their side.

When I called Netgear, I waited an hour and a half on the phone just to speak to a tech support rep!!!!!!!! The gentleman on the phone was super nice and courteous, we went through how to reset the router, but still no Internet.

He assured me that the hardware was OK, but that I would have to purchase a tech agreement to check the software. That’s ridiculous! The tech agreement was nearly the price of the router/modem to begin with! I had no idea this was how Netgear operated! I thought that the tech would help you with troubleshooting the software as well….

NOPE! I told him, I may as well go out and buy a brand new modem router for the price of the tech agreement!! So after 2 hours (waiting an hour and a half and being on the phone for half an hour). I hung up the phone with no resolution! Fortunately, the problem resolved itself a few days later… The network popped back up working OK!!??? I do want to give kudos to the tech support guy on the phone though, I know his hands were “tied” By the NETGEAR company and he could only do so much without making me pay for a tech agreement.

He was extremely nice, polite and courteous.

Was having trouble with a Surfboard modem with a Netgear R6260 attached after doing the latest update through Nighthawk. Decided to replace it with a modem/ router combo, the C6250. Set up in Nighthawk kept stalling at the “firmware out of date” stage.

I was able to get into the settings through my MacBook but couldn’t find any settings to update it. Turns out with the modem, Spectrum is responsible for updating it. It had the latest update according to anything I could find.

Tried doing setup again, deleting the app, all of it. Nothing worked but oddly I was able to download the old Netgear genie app and that works fine. Just seems like I lost a lot of features that I was used to with Nighthawk.

Speeds seem the same as before and it’s not dropping the connection so all in all I guess it’s an improvement.

Zero stars. Do not buy. Made the mistake of thinking it might be better to get a cable modem and router in one, especially made the mistake of getting this Netgear C6250 pure garbage of a product. Wasted two hours of time, one hour with Xfinity tech support doing resets, then another hour with Netgear support with a tech support agent who had a noisy child and family in the background, finally for the agent to conclude after three reset attempts that this device is defective.

Brand new out of a sealed box. Issue was a molasses slow download speed, this wasn’t an issue with the previous setup of a different (separate) modem and separate wifi router. Another issue was the 5Ghz SSID would not show despite checking broadcast settings being ON.

Never touching a Netgear product again.

If you are needing a Wi-Fi router/cable modem combo that will pull actual Gigabit speeds for a few devices without much fuss, this one is perfect. That is what I required of mine when purchased a year ago and that is what I got.

If you want to to stream 4k quality TV in one room while you browse online for a new router/modem while your wife and daughter are watching TikTok on their phones and your son is using his PlayStation to test if the “unlimited data” promise from your ISP is truly unlimited, with a couple devices on Wi-Fi here and there, this modem is for you.

Mine handled all that and more for a year with little issue. Now, if I want to do some gaming with my kids… FAT CHANCE. Even with everything else disconnected, three game systems are just too much for this thing to handle and you should not expect it too.

Taking away one star because the Arris is not actually Arris, it is Commscope and the app that they push on you is complete garbage that never works and their “customer service” goes no further than “have you tried unplugging it and plugging it back in?” Beyond that and you’re on your own.

Additionally, the manufacturers warranty will have you without a modem for two weeks unless you want to shell out $100 to pay for “advanced replacement”. I recommend the replacement warranty offered by BestBuy for this device and I rarely ever say that.

We were looking for a decent cable modem & router for our apartment, so that we need not squander money paying Comcast to rent one of theirs. The reviews on this one looked good, so I pulled the trigger.

It’s a nice package, with a compact footprint which is nice. Setup via the free app software was tolerably easy. The MAC ID on this modem is not clearly identified: there are 2 of them, which differ by one character.

This caused confusion and delay when setting it up with the cable company, but once resolved ceased to be an issue. Signal strength is not as good as what you would get with a dedicated router with adjustable antennas; the thick brick walls also impede signal at the other end of the house, and was easily remedied with a $20 mesh extender.

Throughput is decent and as-advertised; note that this unit is best for households with routine data loads, rather than multiple persons streaming 8K video. For a normal user looking for a decent household modem/router, this is a good product.

I like this modem/router a LOT! It performs! I have been struggling for the past 2 years with a Spectrum supplied Technicolor modem/router. Had all kinds of glitches and irregularities with it. I couldn’t get the speeds and performance I was paying for.

Finally had enough. I couldn’t be happier with this Arris G34 modem/router combo. I have had and used many different brands of modems and routers over the years. I am very pleased with this G34. It does what it says – no if, ands or buts.

It was easy to set up. I didn’t use the App. I like to use the user interface – 192. 168. 0. 1. I had everything configured as I wanted it in a few minutes. I have a couple devices that need assigned (static) IP addresses on my network.

Doing that was a breeze with this router. The user interface in this router is probably the easiest I have ever used. I highly recommend this modem/router combo. I am now getting the speeds I should have been getting.

I am happy to know that I have the latest technology. The WiFI 6 capability and performance is phenomenal! Highly Recommend this modem/router.

This is not a cheap router but it is extremely robust, and has a long range for wide coverage. It covers my entire 3 story house with all three wireless networks. Did not score quite a high as a couple of other AC3200 routers on the 5gHz band speed wise.

But it has not been noticable. Buy this router if you have a lot of devices spread over a large area.

Must have high speed internet to access full speed potential. Anything below 500 not worth buying. But of you’re in the 500 to gig, its a must have. So far very reliable.

The Nighthawk C7800 delivers incredible WIFI speeds! Even the Ethernet is much faster and it was a snap to connect. Only took 15 minutes.

I’m a Comcast 125Mbps internet subscriber and have been using my own Motorola SurfBoard SB6141 (DOCSIS 3. 0) modem for over a year. I was recently offered this Netgear modem for free. At first I wasn’t sure I wanted to bother because I already had my own equipment, I remembered getting my old modem registered with Comcast being a hassle, and there are a number of negative reviews for this particular model.

But, since it was free and since I like tinkering (I don’t have any technical training), I accepted. I could always go back to my Motorola if I didn’t like the Netgear modem. The setup process was pretty painless.

I just unplugged my old modem, switched the coax from old modem to new, unplugged the ethernet cable from my PC to my Airport Extreme, plugged the PC ethernet cable into the new modem and plugged the new modem into the wall.

Once it booted up, I just had to navigate in my browser to Comcast’s setup page and the modem registered itself (after login). The registration process took about 5 minutes–all on Comcast’s end. After that, I ran speedtest.

net and and was surprised to get a much faster ping than on my old modem and to pick up about 4 Mbps in added download speed. I figured the better performance was probably due to the fact that the modem was connected directly to my computer, rather than to my router, for setup.

After getting the modem registered, I switched the ethernet connections so that it fed into my Airport Extreme instead of directly to my PC. But, at that point, my router and connected devices weren’t getting internet.

I reset the router and still nothing. All I had to do was power cycle the modem and it all worked. After that, I ran several more speed tests from my PC and got the same increased speeds. The modem has now been running for several days and I haven’t had any of the issues raised in other reviews.

So, at the end of the day, this modem ended up squeezing more performance out of my internet connection and it will be permanently replacing my Motorola unit–a pleasant surprise. It’s also a bit smaller than the Motorola, although that wasn’t really important to me.

I had long planned to replace my Comcast provided Arris TG862G/CT to save on the monthly rental and to get more flexibility (features, speed, range) with the Wi-Fi router. The ad feature of self activation with Comcast for CM500 caught my attention.

B&H had a competitive price on the modem as compared to Amazon, New Egg and Costco. I ordered the modem and also a Netgear Nighthawk X6 AC3000 router. Setup was quick and self activation worked with internet available out of the modem.

I did not get internet out of the router but I called Comcast and they took the modem info and enabled it. The modem has been working fine for last month. I have not tested the performance limit since I am limited by the performance I am paying for at 100Mbps I highly recommend switching from the modem/router combo and going with the separate modem and router set up.

One added benefit that I had not contemplated is that the modem box is small and can be set on the floor and then the WiFi router, which looks sleeker, can be set on the entertainment center for better Wi-Fi range.

Bought this for connection to Comcast Xfinity. Hookup was EASY. The technition / installer just plugged into the coax cable and verified that it was working (I could have done that !). It’s been running for about 2 weeks now with no issues.

I wanted something in-expensive and small to start – our Comcast service is a promo offer that we might not keep, so I didn’t want to invest a lot in equipment – but I also don’t like to rent from the carriers, so I chose to buy my own.

this will pay for itself in about 6 months. I am a fan of Netgear equipment and so far this little modem is living up to my expectations.

I’ve been on the phone with Arris and Xfinity too many times since I purchased this modem/router almost 2 years ago. Since it’s still under the 2 year mark, I finally insisted with Arris that I needed a new one and they just sent it.

I had to pay for it ($200) plus $20 in shipping but the agent told me I’d get a refund once they receive my old product. My main problem was that Arris said the signal levels were off, which is why I kept losing internet connection.

Xfinity came out to fix the signal levels twice, adding a splitter on the outside, then on the inside of my house. Both times they said they could not reach the ideal signal levels that Arris insisted they should be at.

I’m almost ready to give up and pay the $14 per month rental fee for Xfinity’s gateway. But I’m so against the idea of renting something we should be able to buy. So far the new arris is working without as many event logs.

This was my first wifi system ever after moving out of my parent’s house and it was easy to set up. buying it outright means I didn’t have to rent the modem/router from xfinity and it saved me some coin (14$) on my monthly payment.

Make an account with xfinity then set up the router, and you’ll connect the router to your account through the xfinity app if you have iPhone (idk for android) and after it’s on and connected to xfinity, you have to download the app for the router mention in the instruction manual, and enter the details of the router into that app as well.

then, it is ready to work. I struggled with getting the names and passwords assigned to the internets on my account, like I’d have 3 names pop up in my phone’s wifi settings, two being 5g and one being 2.

4g, and I had to be on 2. 4g to make edits to the router settings but when I’d switch from the 5g to 2. 4g (not cellular) it would throw my connection in the trash 30 seconds after I connected. so I had to work fast to delete the guest network and cement a password into the 5g setting of the router’s app.

it gave me more trouble by not having a 5g page in the app to edit at all so I had to make the guest 5g just to edit the regular 5g. it was a little bit of running around and I suggest when you set it up originally, don’t confuse your networks or passwords.

I have them cooking smoothly now and my signal doesn’t drop or fade. It’s great for my small space. big houses might want a wireless access point upgrade but dorms, apartments, small houses and it’s fine by itself but your experience may vary.

using an internet speed test from google will help you see what your signal does behind closed doors or walls and is a great free diagnostic tool. my last bit of information that I had to claw and bite for on the internet is that this WiFi Cable Modem Router is a standalone unit.

You connect it to the wall with a coax cable (xfinity gave me one but you might have to buy one) and after you have an account with your Internet Service Provider (xfinity for my area) then this box will do all the work unless you choose to add extra bits.

It is a modem, router, access point, and has 4 switched connection points onboard. It’s pretty dang space conscious and I am happy with my purchase.

Netgear really keeps the compation on their Toes. They are always developing the most up-to-date product on the market. This is why I haven’t bothered using anything else on the market. You don’t stray from a top of the industry leader to a third rank hopefully it might be good enough company.

Every time I suggest switching from what they are using to a Netgear product, they just can’t believe what a difference it has made for them. No more connectivity issues or dropping connections during the most inconvenient times, when they needed to be connected the most.

If you are having issues getting to the internet and are just feed up it all. Do yourself a huge favor and switch to Netgear, you won’t regret it in the least. But on the other hand, you live for frustration and thrive on it.

Then you shouldn’t switch. If you’re one of those people who have more money then you know what to do with and enjoy paying a monthly fee to rent from your provider, then this wouldn’t be something you would be interested in getting.

On the other hand Most all of the Major Internet Companies, support Netgear products, even suggest using them, if your tired of renting. Basically it’s a no brainer.

Well, I thought about it for awhile and then I just went ahead and bought it. I took it in to get registered at the cable store mac number registration counter and put in the time hooking and unhooking, typing in passwords, and calling, and in the end it was just incredible.

Oh! The applause we got! We did a two minute unplugged power cycle and subsequently were connected on all levels of the universe! I will save approximately $168 a year and be thankful to the online community (who we should all be thankful for) for my new dual-band connectivity.

And wouldn’t you know it, it was another funny pet video on YouTube, and I was on my way. I don’t upload, though, I’m not that sort of citizen. I like my router flexibility to be quasi-metaverse social.

I need my why-fries sizzling, if you can catch my drift. I don’t do video buffering. No more! I have tasted that cheese and it was moldy (and worst of all, unmelted. Boo!). I am not a mouse running from a hole in the wall to masticate and digest that queso.

My current cable router is a Cisco DPC3825 8×4 DOCSIS 3. 0 Wireless Residential Gateway leased from Cox. It is giving network issues in that the wireless signal is continually dropping off and mostly when you need it.

Range on the Cisco DPC3825 is also randomized because my main PC is about 30 feet away and it is sometimes a full signal and sometimes it drops to about 1/3. I was hoping rather than paying a fee every month and hassling with Cox for a new router, that I could obtain and use the TP-LINK Archer CR700 AC1750 Wireless Dual-Band DOCSIS 3.

0 Cable Modem Router. Wrong, it can not be used on the Cox network. The TP-LINK Archer CR700 AC1750 Wireless Dual-Band DOCSIS 3. 0 Cable Modem Router CAN be used on Comcast XFINITY, Time Warner Cable, Cablevision and the Archer CR700 is also approved for Bright House Networks.

I worked for a small cable provider and we used TP-Link products for our wireless service. We probably had 4000+ TP-Link routers installed and they were incredibly reliable. This is why I was hoping that this TP-Link would fulfill my needs.

But for you on Comcast XFINITY, Time Warner Cable, Cablevision and Bright House Networks, this TP-Link cable modem router is something to consider for your home, SOHO or small office needs.

People that ask me about what to get for a new house or a new apartment that has cable internet, I always tell them without hesitation to get a dedicated modem and dedicated wireless router and avoid the 2-in-1’s like the pelage.

Well even when I was waiting for this to come in I still felt that way. I was hoping that this would change my mind but I didn’t really expect it too. Well it did and I am a huge fan, and will start recommending this to someone in the future for sure.

Now on to why I liked this so much. First is that it offers almost all of the high end features you want in a dedicated router like: USB sharing, 6 internal antennas, dual band AC, guest network, parental controls (per device), bridge mode, MAC filtering, port forwarding, DMZ and more.

The next thing that shocked me was the wireless range, for an all internal antenna model this really broadcasted well. I was able to get a solid stream about 60’ outside of my brick 2100sqft house in all directions.

I was impressed as well on how affective the beamforming was on this model, I could watch the stream grow after just a few seconds of it being connected. I replaced an AC3200 router and a Surfboard modem (current DOCSIS 3.

0) with this unit for testing and I can honestly say it’s going to stay. I can’t stress how much that this is not a cheap gimmicky 2-in-1 unit but it is a solid solution for the enthusiast’s needs or the regular home owner.

2-in-1 units have always offered convenience and proved to be a space saving option, but in order to get anything worthwhile you had to get a “real” wireless router. This unit really solves that terrible wireless issue while providing the space saving convenience of a 2-in-1 unit effectively.

Fantastic product with low price, fulfilling my need as a small family. Easy to install as I already have xfinity service at my apartment. Just replaced the rented modem/router of xfinity with this great product which comes with 2 year warranty.

This is a basic modem router combo. The modem part is great, but my wireless is terrible. It’s up and down and I’m just getting 4 bars out of 5 when my laptop is only 7 feet away! My new Roku tv buffers often and lags.

Also my notepad that I’m using now in my bedroom upstairs will barely pick up since its upstairs. My laptop gets 20 to 30 mbps wireless and 90 plus hard wired. It’s a shame I have to go 10 years back in time just to get decent speed on my laptop and have a 14 ft bulky wire all over my floor! Tripped over it several times in 3 days I’ve been wired.

This is absurd. I’ve ordered an upgraded model and will try it and return this model to walmart.

Took me a few days to figure out. Works great when I read instructions! Have Wi Fi for internet and wireless printer. Hooked up ethernet cable to stream TV shows and movies using Infinity Flex box. Speed is good for the $100 price plus $12 for 3 year warranty on the modem.

Works great! Pairing this with a Netgear Orbi RBR50 mesh system, with Comcast 600Mbps internet. Upon using the Netgear app to test my speeds I once got a 617 down/7 up. Testing with Speed Test I got a similar number.

Setup was simple to get rid of the $15 rental fee. I just unplugged the XF modem/router, plugged in the Arris via LAN to my laptop, and when trying to connect via Firefox it detected the new modem and started the setup.

After about 15 min it detected the phone line of service and I was online! Easy! Didn’t even need to call their customer service*** ***Do not use the XF app to on Android or iOS. I can’t recommend it.

It’s ability to set up my modem required very specific criteria: first, I needed to have a a modem and router setup prior to changing the old modem for the new one. Then, without disconnecting the router, I would need to switch out the XF modem with the new one then try connecting to the network again.

The app would then work, saying I would need to set up my new modem with XF. BUT, if don’t want to set it up with a new wireless system (like I did this time), there’s no way you can use the app to setup just the modem since there’s no active wireless system available to connect to.

And while I was on caller support they kept advertising the app, but not providing ample solutions to trying to connect me to the internet. Besides that, modem is working great! Save yourself $180 a year and setup a 3rd party modem.

I ordered this for my daughter moving back to an apartment near campus for the new school year. I found the power cord missing when I open the brand new box so I cannot install the cable modem. Fortunately, I live not too far from campus and brought another cable from home the next day.

I contacted Arris support and tried to get a replacement cord but they offered no help at all. So the packaging error and the poor support are the main reason for the 2 stars. I could return this to store but I cannot exchange for another one as it is only available online.

The set up is easy though once you have it connected to a router and has a device connected to it. Within 15 minutes after plugging it in, it is up and running using Xfinity. Of course, you need to have the service set up ahead of time first.

The performance is okay for the 200Mbps service we choose. It has two voice ports if you want a land line, however, there are cheaper VOIP options. This modem is pretty bulky (but very light). It doubles the size of SB8200 that I use at home.

Set up was easy IF you really follow all the directions. I watched a YouTube video for this exact model (SBV3202) which was MORE helpful than the written quick start guide. I connected the Ethernet cable directly from modem to laptop for the setup.

I had to wait 10 to 15 minutes for all the lights to become solid before completing the setup on the laptop. (If I remember correctly the Tel 1 light never came on solid until after the entire setup was complete).

I never had to call Xfinity. Remote Laptop activation worked perfectly. Once finished, Tel 1 light came on. I then Connected Ethernet cable from modem to my wireless router. Since then the modem has been functioning perfectly with no interruptions.

Happy to be saving modem rental fee. Hoping this modem functions well for a long time.

Purchased this CM1150V modem from Netgear. com in December 2020. It worked well for internet and voice until just after the 1-year warranty expired. At that point, internet connection became very sporadic and unreliable — sometimes on, sometimes not, and often showing as “not detected” on the Xfinity app.

Restarting the modem and adjusting connections wouldn’t fix the issue and the Xfinity technician who came to the house and checked the whole system diagnosed this modem as the culprit. I called Netgear to ask whether the warranty could be extended for another 3 weeks since it *just* expired.

I was told that such an extension may be a possibility as a one-time courtesy, though I’d have to run through troubleshooting with Netgear’s own technician before receiving a replacement. I spent a good 30-40 minutes on the phone as the guy ran me through restarts, a hard reset, and accessing the modem through multiple devices (via wifi and LAN) until the sporadic modem temporarily started working again.

At that point the tech declared “mission accomplished” and closed the case while I protested that my issue is with a *sporadic* connection. Nonetheless, Netgear’s courtesy gesture to me was now concluded.

And sure enough, within 30 minutes of the Netgear tech ending the phone call, the modem was inoperable again. I know 100% that this 1-year old CM1150V modem is the issue because my old modem (slower and lacking a VoIP) is currently delivering internet to my router without any problem at all.

Bottom line: This modem worked *just* long enough to get past the 1-year warranty and then went bad. And while Netgear’s support team initially seemed open to making things right, in the end I’m left with a broken, 12.

5-month-old $250+ modem and nothing from Netgear but friendly wishes for a good day. Very disappointed in both the modem and in Netgear’s support. Lesson learned, I suppose, and I’ll be purchasing future networking products from other manufacturers.

I purchased this modem in May 2020. It worked great for 6 straight weeks, not one issue. Then we started having periodic connection issues. I called Netgear and they attempted to help me troubleshoot the issue but kept blaming the ISP.

I had Xfinity out three times, they even ran a new line from the street to the house. I was still having intermittent connection issues. Finally, I decided to add a small fan next to the modem thinking that it may have heat issues even though this is in our normally cold basement.

Adding the fan significantly reduced our intermittent connection issues but they were not completely eliminated. Throughout this process I spent a total of 3-4 hours on support calls with Netgear. They finally agreed to replace the modem, which I had to pay shipping to receive it within a reasonable time ($$).

The new modem again worked for a few weeks without issue, long enough for the support on my original purchase to expire. The modem is still under warranty but you have to pay them for support to get warranty assistance.

The fan trick made things worse with the replacement modem. If the fan is within a foot of the modem I lose my connect nearly instantly, it must have zero EM shielding, weird that the original did not have this issue.

I then rented Xfinity’s modem for the past 2 months and have had zero outages, none, not one issue. I then reinstalled the Netgear. Again, it worked fine for a couple weeks but then the intermittent issues returned.

We have twice lost the connection completely, having to reboot the modem to get connected again. So either the replacement modem is also defective or Xfinity is triggering issues to get us to pay their rental fees.

Having owned a previous modem for several years that worked flawlessly I highly doubt the issue is with Xfinity. Unfortunately, I had to replace that modem to support the faster service I upgraded to.

Now I am stuck with a very expensive brick modem and having to still pay rental fees to maintain a reliable connection, which is clearly what I was trying to avoid by purchasing this modem.

Sorry, I needed to make that pun. The modem is DOCSIS 3. 1 certified and is backwards compatible with DOCSIS 3. 0 for areas that don’t have access to XFINITY’s higher speed services. What that means is the potential for 10Gbps download and 1Gbps upload bandwidths, but potential is not a guarantee.

Realistically, you’ll see about 85-90% of the total speed you were promised by Comcast on a good day, but fortunately most non-streaming internet traffic barely benefits from such high bandwidth. And yes, buy this modem over renting Comcast’s own router/modem device for their Gigabit internet plans.

~$15 a month is highway robbery for a $200 piece of junk. If your internet is “slow” with this modem, don’t chuck it out the window and spam 1-star reviews: check what router/wireless access point is connected to the modem first.

A weak or poorly configured router that can barely handle a handful of devices is probably going to make the internet feel slower than it actually is. If there are a lot of wireless devices connected to the network, another possible bottleneck is the wireless access point (usually integrated into the router) struggling to handle simultaneous signals on the same channel.

I would definitely recommend upgrading your router or wireless access point if it’s over 5 years old since it might not keep up with a high-bandwidth environment. I would look for a wireless router that supports MU-MIMO if you have a lot of 802.

11ac-compatible computers or mobile devices. If you can afford it, a 802. 11ax (or Wi-Fi 6) wireless router or mesh system is more than a match for this modem and will future-proof your network.

I bought this because renting at $13/mo in one year would pay this one off fast and I don’t have very fast Internet and don’t need much fancy stuff. However I immediately found the WiFi speeds were 25 even if I was 5ft from it, slower if I moved away.

Changing channels is useless. So I disabled the radios and connected my old NETGEAR WiFi router and it went to Comcast’s contract speed 100M, same exact WiFi configuration. No amount of tweaking over the last year has gotten it past 50M.

Hardwired is fine. A lot of people complained but there is no solution. Firmware is managed through Comcast so no luck there. If you want fast WiFi stay away from this cheap one. I like my NETGEAR stuff which is why I bought this product, but this was a total disappointment.

They keep pushing Nighthawk but fool me once.

I’ve had this router for a little over a year and the only description I could come up with is unreliable. About 3 times a week my wife completely dhuts down and I have to reset all of my devices. I have talked with my provider and they said it was a router issue.

Called netgear and they told me since it’s been over 90 days I’d have to pay over $40 just to have a representative help me with the issue. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I will definitely not be buying another netgear product in the near future.

I bought this cable modem 9 months ago. At first it seemed like a great router with great features. It’s very fast and handles lots of wifi devices at the same time. My previous one had a limit of 20.

There are tons of customizations and I love the security features such as how easy they make MAC address filtering. However, the trouble started after 7 months when it would no longer save backup configuration files.

Next, when I added wifi cameras I discovered that the strength of the wifi signal is much weaker than my old router. Finally, last night, a very slight power glitch killed it. I did a factory reset, then discovered that the configuration files I had managed to store from many months ago don’t work at all, and I’m still trying to get the thing back to the way it was before the glitch.

In trying to do this, it randomly hangs and refuses to store or load configuration files. It’s impossible to reload or upgrade the firmware; this can only be done through my cable company. Now my son is forced to take remote learning classes in his college on a flakey router that can die at any time.

If I had any idea this thing would only live less than a year I would have spent the extra money and bought a better brand. Stay away from this router, it will disappoint you!.

I was running an older DOCSIS 3. 0 router combo and needed an upgrade badly. I got a deal on the Nighthawk and instantly saw speeds increase. I was getting 100mb download speed at best on my PC Wi-Fi.

Now it’s 250mb consistently. That means way better range as my PC is in my furthest bedroom from the router. The Coax cable was a bit snug and took some maneuvering to get on. At least it’s on tight lol.

Most importantly, the Nighthawk app was a bit finicky when I set it up. After calling my internet provider to activate the modem/router, I still couldn’t get on the network. Make sure to download the app and make every attempt to login to the router and change your network name and password.

You can also do this from a web browser, but it has to be on the network first. Overall, I’m very happy with the upgrade. I didn’t find out it’s DOCSIS 3. 0 until after I set it up. I guess I don’t really need DOCSIS 3.

1 as long as this continues to work. Bonus: props to Netgear support for getting back to me quickly about registering an already registered product(bought it on OfferUp). They were effective at communicating and making things easy.

I’d buy another Netgear product because of that experience.

Initially easy to set up except for 2 major problems. This router is not initially configured to work well with airplay. If you use airplay to stream music or video around your house, beware. My research shoed that many other people have had the same problem, including in the Netgear support community.

Netgear support was polite but of no help as they never seemed to understand the issue. I eventually stumbled onto a solution that solved the primary problem here at my house after many hours and much stress.

But that led to the next issue. THis router does not have the ability to automatically select a good 5ghz channel. It has auto for 2. 4 but not 5. This means you will spend additional experimenting with channels to find one that works well for airplay in you house.

And when you find one it will probably only be a temporary solution and you will eventually be looking gor another channel. It is ridiculous that this unit does not have auto channel select for both,a technology that has been around for long time.

As an IT guy, I’ve been a long-term fan of Netgear products. Unfortunately, this particular product has an apparent flaw which causes it to lose sync with Internet service provider and returns ranging response errors and recycles in an attempt to reconnect.

During the first year of service, we experienced fast throughput via quite a few desktop computers, laptop computers, smart TV’s, cell phones, video game consoles, etc in our household. But, without warning the Netgear CM400 began recycling and we’d lose Internet every few minutes.

Netgear won’t support anything outside of 90-days from date of purchase, but would have been happy to sell me an extended warranty of some sort at a rate at least twice the purchase price of this product.

With no recourse, we are left with either renting a cable modem from ISP, or researching and purchasing a different brand. Buyer beware!.

Even though Newegg’s description claims otherwise, this router will work with Cox Internet; it even says so in the directions that comes with it. All I had to do was connect the cables in the order specified in the directions (yes, I actually do read them).

Since I already had a router and Wi-Fi adapter already set up, I was able to set up the router through them. A screen popped up on my computer once the router booted up that should have allowed me to reconnect to COX directly without calling but it wouldn’t accept my personal account info so I had to call.

Cox admitted that they had had problems with that and were able to complete the process over the phone. This was not the fault of Netgear. Edit: Three years later, it is still going strong.

Arris TM822R Modem is easy to connect. Online registration of modem with Comcast/Xfinity went without a hitch. Well worth the money if you are currently leasing a modem and the backup battery is a requirement for the phone line for our alarm monitoring service.

However I ended up returning this particular modem because it wasn’t compatible with the upgraded Gigabit speed service under Xfinity Super Triple Play package — this modem has maximum of 384 Mbps and the upload speed dropped from 12 Mbps to 6.

Consequently switched back to Blast! internet package (250 Mbps) and performance ended up being comparable to the TM722g (also rated for 384 Mbps) I already had.

It was easy to connect but I spent a good half hour on the phone with Comcast before they could get the phone to connect. They kept rebooting the router and asking it everything was working. After several tries everything was working.

Issue was on Comcast’s end not with the modem. I think I would have had the same issue with any user purchased modem. Don’t waste your time trying Comcast’s online registration of your cable modem, just call them to get it registered and working over the phone.

Although the listing says Comcast Xfinity, it also works with Cablevision, which is what I have. It took very little time to set up. I did attempt to set up following the on-line self installation, but I eventually had to call optimum and there was no problem at all in getting it set up.

I wished I had done this years ago instead of paying to rent the modem each month. Very pleased!.

Although I bought the device from Best Buy I thought it was important to share my experience with the C7800. I don’t typically spend the effort to write reviews but feel it was important to in this case.

My apologies in advance for the length of this review. I’ve had other Netgear devices that have performed well, but not the C7800. On June 9th I purchased the modem/router after a lightning strike took out lots of my home electronics.

I struggled for several weeks trying to get my smart home working reliably again. The root cause of my problem was the C7800 dropping 2GHz WiFi connections periodically. Then its SSID would disappear so you couldn’t even log the device back it.

Another reboot and it was live again. By this time, it was too late to return it to the store. After numerous tech support calls, chats and troubleshooting sessions I convinced them to send me a replacement.

(It shouldn’t have been that hard! It was clearly defective. ) The replacement was a refurbished device that had even worse problems. I have hobbies that include designing devices that are WiFi enabled.

With the refurb I was able to log into the C7800 without the router acknowledging my device in the attached devices screen in the router. A big security scare for me. Plus, the router kept dropping devices.

After many more discussions and troubleshooting sessions, they agreed to send me another C7800. I actually wanted them to send me a different lower cost router but they refused. However they did agreed to send me a NEW C7800 this time.

Unfortunately, they sent another refub that I didn’t even try. I returned that one and they eventually sent me another new C7800, again refusing to send a cheaper router to make me happy. I would like to say this one worked better but this device couldn’t give me a display of what devices where connected to the router 2 times in a row and get the same list.

At this time, I DEMANDED a different device. This was day 113 of my battle with the C7800 and Netgear. After that demand they ghosted me, so I finally went out and bought a Arris modem and Linksys router.

I had it working reliably in 2 hours (of which 1 hour was driving to and back from Best Buy). Finally at day 142 I heard back from Netgear as the case was still open. I told them the C7800 is in the trash where it belongs and close the case, I don’t want to waste any more time with you.

So just a warning. The device might work well for some simple applications but anything beyond that I would not recommend the device. I’m also concerned about its security. I offered to work with Netgear engineers to address the security concerns but the tech support person did not take me up on the offer.

So I’m not so happy with Netgear as well. Just for reference I feel competent in my analysis having 2 degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and a 35 year technical career.

The Nighthawk R6900v2 that I bought a few days ago is quite an upgrade from the ancient ASUS RT-N16, meaning that it’s much faster and had far greater range. I finally have full Wi-Fi coverage throughout my house, as well as my yard.

The only con I have is that in order to opt-out of Netgear’s data aggregation, one must send them an email, rather than simply including an opt-out button within the router’s settings. That is really the only gripe I have with my Nighthawk router.

Well, that plus setting it up the first time revealed some major glitches (not accepting my password after upgrading the firmware via their app – I had to reset the router back to factory defaults) but I got it all sorted out.

eventually. Once the headache of setting up the router has been completed, it is a competent piece of equipment. Even though both the Nighthawk and old ASUS RT-N16 have gigabit LAN ports, I have found that using the Internet is noticeably faster with the Nighthawk; it’s not my imagination either.

🙂 Would I recommend the Nighthawk R6900v2 router in spite of its setup warts? Indeed I would!.

I bought this to upgrade from my old Motorola modem/router. I had been wanting this one and it was on clearance around $360 which is more than i have ever paid for a modem but i wanted a good one so splurged.

It started out great and the signal reached all through my house to where i didnt need to use my wifi extender. Mind you i only have a 1500 sq ft home so its not huge. The speed was about double my old modem which was great.

The reach was great as well. The problem started with it dropping internet once or twice a day and having to unplug to reboot. I tried changing settings multiple times to see if that helped. The last straw was trying to watch a movie and it taking over 3 hours to get through because it would not stay connected to internet.

I contacted my isp amd they said everything looked fine on their end so i packed this up, hooked up my old modem and it worked fine. I returned this to best buy. I ended up buying the Motorola 8725 and it has been great.

No drops as of yet. Signal is not as far but speed is better and it has wifi 6. I do not recommend this nighthawk.

I’ve had this for 2 months and it’s been okay. Pros: Gigabit Easy set up Cons: Interface is slow and cumbersome Very short range To amplify the short range, we live in a roughly 10 year old house, but put on the second floor office space at the front of the house, it is unable to provide coverage to the back two bedrooms.

I had to put a repeater in the hallway about 15 feet from the router to reach those bedrooms. It cannot penetrate the downstairs, not even the rooms directly below it. I ended up buying a second cheap wifi router to use downstairs, one with external antennas that provide full coverage to the downstairs with full bars on both 2.

4 and 5GHz channels. I did need to put another repeater just inside the garage to reach the TV we have out there, but I had to buy 3 other devices to get whole home coverage (I had not really expected the garage to be reached by the base router, but I expected the main rooms in the house to be covered) at a cost of almost $180, and this is on top of hooking up the ethernet in the house to lessen the wifi load.

For the slow interface, it takes close to a minute for each page to load, which means if you can’t recall which tab something is under, it can take quite some time to check and change settings. I’m still trying to figure out if I can connect this through my modem I had to get for wifi calling.

I have Xfinity and for a couple of weeks now everything was fine with the cable line split coming out of the wall, but the streaming app stopped working this morning, presumably because the signal isn’t coming out of the registered modem.

But I can’t find anything online and after 20 minutes gave up going through the interface.

Top of the line Arris Cable Gateway, supporting 32×8 channels, DOCSIS 3. 1 standard, Wi-Fi 6 with with one 2. 5 Gbps port. Despite these impressive stats the LAN component has numerous problems that Arris tech support wouldn’t bother to help me figure out.

Issue #1, 2 of my laptops use an almost identical model Intel wireless adapter. Prior to switching out my previous model Arris gateway both of these laptops connected wirelessly fine. These 2 laptops see other neighbors networks in range just not this gateway.

The workaround was to uninstall the Intel Wi-Fi driver and use a generic Microsoft driver. Arris support simply told me to contact Intel. 2nd issue is Chromecast doesn’t allow me to cast anything to it via Ethernet, only wirelessly but my Wi-Fi signal in this room is poor to the gateway.

The previous Arris gateway allowed me to cast via Ethernet with Chromecast. Once again Arris didn’t help but referred me to Google. I should mention that I’m an A+ certified Systems Administrator, used to troubleshooting problems but this one was impossible to figure out, even after hard resetting the gateway, updating firmware on all devices.

Most users that aren’t too technical might not have such problems as me. I’m a power user, for the price I expect this product or support to surpass my expectations. I returned this and went with Netgear Nighthawk, everything works perfectly now, I’m through with Arris products and terrible tech support.

I really really wanted to like this device, and the one issue aside that I had with it, which was a MAJOR one, kept me from being able to. I purchased this to use the faster 2. 5GB port and while I was getting faster speeds than the 1GB I subscribe to, the issue I had was that my wife could no longer access her VPN (Cisco AnyConnect) while working from home.

I tried to troubleshoot with Arris but they were zero help. I ended up returning and purchasing another one thinking maybe I’d gotten a dud; same result. Hours of online research and not a single solution that could resolve.

If you need to use Cisco AnyConnect (or as best I can tell, ANY VPN) this may not be the device for you. Also tried a Netgear CAX80 and had the same exact issues so it has to be something related to these “all in one” devices.

Bummer, as I liked this device, it looked cool, it was a modem and router all in one, but in the end, I couldn’t keep it.

Comcast offered to upgrade my mother-in-law’s modem, but it sent a gateway, not just a modem, and there was already a new, high-end wireless router in use. Also, upon informing her she did not need to rent a modem, and could save hundreds by owning her own, she agreed to a purchase.

I spent considerable time with Comcast in chat and on the phone trying to get the unit activated, but in the end Comcast said it could not see the device and deemed it was defective. So after a purchase for her last night I was off to a different Walmart today to make an exchange at one that had a unit in stock.

No problem with the exchange, and I am happy I made the purchase at a local brick and mortar store for this very reason (three Walmart’s very close by), that with the state of mass produced modem and router builds these days, I knew there was a good chance I could get a lemon, and I did not want to wait days for shipping both ways.

What a comparatively worse aggravation that would have been. With the second unit I decided to bypass people and use Comcast’s automated activation site. It automatically pops up when you fire up the modem, and did so through my router right to my phone.

From the time I clicked continue after only inputting the Comcast account number and associated phone number, it was just 1-2 minutes and Internet connectivity was fully functional. No lie! Sweet system.

It says it could take 15 minutes, but for me it was lightening fast. Could not have been any easier. True plug and play so to speak. I am holding out on 5 stars because of the original unit. Hopefully this one will be fine, and if so I would give the whole process and product 6 stars if I could.

If I can come back and update this review I will, to reflect this much better second experience to 5 stars. Speed did not change because the plan speed was being adequately supported by the rental modem, but I expect not to see congestion because of the 16 x 4 channel bonding (the rental was 4 x 4).

Also, if the plan speed gets upgraded at some point the 686 speed will handle it. I picked the 6183 after several commercial review sites recommended it repeatedly. I think the TP-Link 7620 would have been an equally good choice, I almost went that route, but it would have been a longer drive to a competing store (not stocked at Walmart) to get and exchange it, so I feel good about my choice so far.

Time will tell. Hope your experience is good on your first attempt, but don’t give up if you run into problems. It is just the nature of the beast of cookie cutter electronics, and too be expected.

This modem is amazing! I can’t believe I have been paying my ISP to rent a modem for 6 years, that added up to over $700. 00 and I got this one and it paid for itself in 3 months. Not only that my old modem needed rebooted 3 or 4 times a day and this sb6183 has been on for days and hasn’t needed rebooted at all.

Setup was super easy, just called my ISP and had it up and running in minutes. It is half the size of my old bulky modem also so you don’t have to worry about it taking up space. Very happy with this purchase.

It even shipped early!.

If you are looking to steady and bolster your service providers connection, with the future option to upgrade that service connection. Then this is a good investment. Took less than five minutes to hook up the connectors and activate with my provider.

Works great with my Linksys dual band router. The lights on the front are steady on when the connection is locked on (Good to go. ) The rear Ethernet connector has a tiny green lite (steady) when connection good and on the other side a tiny orange lite when data flowing.

Just a minor thing. The steady on lights in front (four of them) are fairly BRIGHT, but not too obnoxious. Safe to say you will NOT need a Nite-lite in the room the modem is in. The modem seems to run a bit warmer than what you might be used to.

I would recommended at least 4+inches of clearance on all sides, as to not restrict ventilation. I would speculate it runs fairly warm since, it is a stronger/faster model. I could have settled with a less sophisticated/slower modem for my current service connection to get rid of the rental fee imposed.

However, reviews on this modem were consistently higher than others. I’m inclined to agree. I also have the insurance that is modem will not go out of date/become obsolete for a few years. In my opinion it is worth the few extra $ to get this better model.

I would recommend it and buy it again. If you happen to catch it on sale or mark down then I wouldn’t think twice about obtaining it.
