20 Best Xfinity Wifi Extender (2022 Updated)

If the EX7000 does not work properly with Spectrum or any other ISP, come forward and let users know. Instead, one will be troubleshooting with Netgear technical Staff and repeating again and again, due to the fact the extender goes back to provide intermittent Services after being fixed.

How is it possible, a device as this on with a Ethernet Hub, is not capable to provide Internet access if the systems are connected via Ethernet cable (NIC)? I need Netgear to resolve this challenge if they expect the rating to be change to more Stars.

This means, if they are willing to utilize my case to resolve the technical challenges of this extender model is having with the ISP providers, I am willing to help out versus expending more time doing the same troubleshooting of setting the device.

Set up and installation was not as smooth as I had hoped. Initially I used the WPS set up and was impressed until I attempted to connect to my smart TV. The address depicted was different than the one depicted in the instruction sheet and my wifi password was not recognized.

So I reverted to the set up assistant. First using my computer, no luck; never could get the set up screen. So I loaded the Nighthawk app to my phone and tried that. Again, no luck. Finally I used my phone to connect to the NETGEAR-EXT and after two days of frustration I had it done.

The performance is much better than my previous NETGEAR extender but I still get an occasional drop: I guess nothing is perfect.

I bought this to extend my current wifi network to my living room. I used to only reach 50-55 mbps prior to installing it, but now it can reach from 115-200 mbps on my 2GHz network, which is almost the same speed when I’m near or if I connect directly to my router via ethernet.

I didn’t have to worry losing access or experience any lags in my internet whenever I’m working in different rooms. Would recommend to anyone who wants a fast and reliable wifi range extender. I’ve also been using it with my new Netgear AX1800 router, and it’s been the best upgrade I’ve made so far! Everything is easy to setup, and I definitely got more for what I’ve paid for.

And I’m very glad that they have a ethernet port that you can use for gaming or other devices that need Internet connection. And you could use the light indicators on the AC 6120 extender/repeater to help you find the best location for the AC 6120 extender/repeater to pick up the Wi-Fi signal from your modem if the light is Red that is not a good place if the light is Amber that’s a good place if the light is green as the best place.

And usually best to have the AC 6120 extender/repeater somewhere about halfway between your modem and the Area where you want to enhance your Wi-Fi signal. I am very glad that I was able to find this Netgear AC 6120 extender/repeater.

I asked my cable provider to help me with this issue for four months and they could not help me resolve it at all. But I happen to speak to a friend who recommended trying the Netgear AC to 6120 extender/repeater!!.

Three problems on firmware V1. 0. 0. 54_1. 0. 34: – Dropped connection between laptop and extender regularly (light on the extender turning from green to red), once per day at least. – Intermittent traffic – on Windows 10, in Task Manager Performance, could see that a few seconds normal traffic, a few seconds 0.

– Signal strength is very location sensitive. I live in a house with common construction for this part of central North America (wood frame and drwall), so no concrete or steel structure for the signal to go through.

Maybe the steel ventilation ductwork interferes in places. There is a huge difference in the signal strength and connection reliability (my previous two comments) depending on where I site this extender.

I even resorted to plugging it into an extension cord and moving it around a room a couple of feet at a time, without moving my laptop (or router. ) Some spots had better signal strength and fewer drops than others, but none was trouble free.

I’ve never seen another wifi device so sensitive to location. I worked with support, who gave a few ideas, but nothing helped. I stopped using it and went back to using my wifi router which worked much better, but I got an email recently that there is new firmware.

I just loaded firmware V1. 0. 0. 64_1. 0. 39 (Oct 18, 2021) and will try again. I will comment again if there is any improvement.

I bought this gadget to extend the range of the wifi to be able to use it in our travel trailer in the driveway. It worked great over the 2 or 3 weeks straight that we used it! I never had it glitch out or anything like that, and the extended wifi was always fast and reliable.

The only time I ever had a problem with the connection was when someone bumped the directional antennas to point away from the trailer– an easy fix! On this note, it is a good idea to place it somewhere where it’s unlikely to be bumped, as even a small change can cause a drop in speed.

It’s really important to get the antennas right when you set it up, as they are so useful when set properly! All in all this is a great product, and the only thing I wish was improved is the time it takes to boot, find the router, connect and be ready, but this is really just me being spoiled by faster technology, as the entire setup from out of the box takes maybe 5 minutes! It takes probably all of 30 sec to boot and another 30 to fully connect to the router and complete the WPS authentication, then after that you just have to play with the positioning to get the best signal.

I really love the 2 different bands, 2GHz and 5GHz, as well! Well, that got kinda long, but I hope it helps direct potential buyers to choose this product, as it is really worth the money!.

Had an immense amount of trouble setting the router up to connect with my ISP (Slingshot). PBT and Slingshot tech support were both very helpful but neithers advice managed to get the router to connect.

They did give me a basic understanding of what the issue might have been. I ended up turning a protocol on that both PBT and Slingshot tech support had said should be turned off, this immediately got it working.

I’m no networking engineer but I do know my way around tech, this was at the extreme limits of my ability to troubleshoot. On that note, I wouldn’t recommend this product unless you also have some experience with tech troubleshooting for the initial set up.

Once working I can’t fault the product. It’s much faster than the stock router, doesn’t seem to randomly drop connection with the ISP like the stock router did and we’re also getting far better range on the built in WiFi.

I’ve purchased wi-fi “repeaters” before (the $15-$20 variety here on eBay) but have never spent this much even on a Router, much less a “range extender” (fancy word for ‘repeater’?) so I was skeptical that it would be as useful as advertised.

I almost changed my mind based on the price, but I needed a device that would be quality, and had a pass-thru outlet for other appliances. Linksys has always made very good looking products, and Belkin products almost tempted me away, because I have also had Linksys routers that did not perform well despite good looks.

This product made up for all the bad things I have ever said about Linksys. It’s an elegant design, the antennas are sturdy and adjust to various positions with a nice tactile click, and stay in position solidly, and they don’t fee like they might get ripped off the device like some other antenna I have had on other products (including Linksys routers).

The LED indicator is easy to see, but not overly bright, and there is also a light for the ethernet connection (which can also be turned off through software). I didn’t have much use for the airplay feature.

The best feature of this product however, is the firmware. Even though I am a long time PC and MAC technician with hours of install experience, I would recommend this product to a novice, because the set up was a breeze.

The only confusing aspect was the choice of whether to use the same network name to just repeat your wi-fi signal, or to use the suggested name the software gives that adds the ‘_Ext’ automatically onto the net name.

I chose the latter, and kept the same password, so users on the extended net can see the two signal strengths. Repeaters generally just repeat a signal, and you never really know if you are connecting to them, or the far-away router.

This was one reason I bought this product in the first place. The research I did gave me a good idea that the software was a key feature, and while I expected the set-up to be simple, I was surprised by all the advanced admin abilities you have, once you have it set up.

On my network it likes to sit right around. 6 or. 7 for the 2. 4Ghz and since it’s also dual band, access is available on the 5GHz band as well. I’m not as happy with the 5Ghz range, but the 2. 4GHz works well, and there is a crossover feature that allows the two bands to share the best signal strength on either channel.

This is a feature that takes no skill to set up, it just works automatically, there are manual controls, but it just works, so I didn’t attempt to experiment with it, and other reviews say it’s auto crossoverresults are about as good as manually tweaking, so I let it go at that.

All the software is easily accessible via the IP in your browser (or Bonjour), and the setup prompts you to add a password, to ensure that no one but you, the administrator can access the controls. One great feature, (depicted on the front of the box) ‘Spot Finder’, works very well by showing a nice gauge in green, showing you the optimal spot to place it between the router and the area you want to cover.

It couldn’t be simpler than this, and as I mention there are a wealth of stats and diagnostics, and site survey tools for the more advanced user, it’s fast and flawless, allowing you to see all aspects of signal strength, who’s connected, the packet loss, connect time.

Even with all these options it’s design to ‘set it and forget it’. Having the log information as well as the stats, it was able to inform me that it had been operating for 27 days straight, nearly a month, with no issues whatsoever, (until I decided to reboot it, for maintenance of my network).

The unit even gives you an option of downloading firmware updates manually or setting it to automatic. One of the first things I do is check firmware on a router, and update it, and the AC1200 found a new firmware, just a few seconds after I clicked on the button, and updated it speedily and rebooted itself.

This thing is fast, and reboots are quick and painless, and once set to auto-update you may never need to go into the admin settings ever again, (unless you want to check signal quality and who’s on the WAN).

When you do need to access it, it’s just a matter of typing in your password, and it’s immediately available. The one thing that has always bugged me about routers, is the speed at which you can access settings via IP, and software is always lousy and cryptic.

The firmware in the AC1200 behaves more like sophisticated desktop software than your average browser menus. It’s a joy to use, if you are one to do a lot of monitoring to keep your network humming. While I can’t be specific about range vs.

speed performance, I have maintained 200 Ft plus, with no loss of speed or latency, but my network is on the low end of fiber optic at 10Mbps, so far it carries the signal without any loss that I can see within the 1200Mbps max.

I highly recommend this product, although I think the price is a bit higher than one might expect.

Had this about a month. We live in a 1500 sq. ft. condo with metal studs in the walls and lots of mirrors. Even though we have strong signal in the room with the router, we had to install another router in our living room to give us enough signal to stream on the main TV.

However, neither signal gave me enough to stream in our master bedroom. This device was just what we needed! There is line of sight from the main router to the outlet in the bedroom so this works really well.

The set-up was a little confusing but we figured it out. We were concerned when the power went out for a minute or so but it reconnected without any additional set-up! Very Happy!.

The Good: Wifi Speeds were amazing. Nice looking units that fit in nicely on a shelf with existing decor. Easy to do address reservations and port forwarding. The Bad: Limited Features. The router determines whether a device uses 2.

4 or 5ghz signal. Might be great for a regular user, but to me this is annoying because my new iPhone can connect to either, so the router placed it on a 2. 4 channel that yielded slower speeds and there was no way for me to change it like I can do with my old Nighthawk.

It has known compatibility issues with wireless Amcrest cameras (wish I would have known that since I have a system built around Amcrest), Satellite Signal Drops from base station constantly. I bought the system that has 3 satellites and live in a 4,000 sqft house yet they kept disconnecting.

App Issues – It took 3 hrs to get the app to work correctly to finalize setup (I have a nighthawk and am used to the app and it still gave me issues), The other issue with the App is that if you change a device name, it doesn’t translate to the Embedded UI.

Device connectivity to the satellites is an issue because when booting up the system, it seems that the router boots before the satellites thus having everything connect to the base (router). It would be nice if you could also manually move devices to the appropriate satellite, but you can’t do that.

I had a satellite in my finished basement that next to it was a smart TV and a Google Home, both of which would not connect to the satellite next to it, they connected to the router 1 level up. Very frustrating.

I read some blogs about turning signal strength down and that seemed to help, but my wifi range suffered in other areas. I have over 50 devices connected to my router between wired and wifi. I don’t think Orbi liked that many devices (35+ continuously active).

I also read about ways to get Orbi to communicate better by disabling MU-MIMO, but to me that defeats the purpose of a state of the art router. Lastly, Netgear Armor destroyed my connectivity and streaming capabilities.

In theory it was a great idea, but once I disabled it my speeds and streaming ability improved. I like Netgear products, but this one wasn’t for me. I went back to my Netgear Nighthawk X6 R8000 and it performs twice as good with my devices than the Orbi did (even thought I’m comparing Wifi 5 to the Orbi Wifi 6 which doesn’t even compare speedwise).

I think my next step will be the newest Wifi 6 Nighthawk Router. My advice is to do more research before buying Orbi if you’re a power user.

I purchased this product after seeing multiple positive reviews on tech review sites. There were some negative reviews on Amazon but there are always a few. I should have listened to what they said. When the Nighthawk Mesh extender arrived, I followed the installation instructions using the Nighthawk app.

The QR code didn’t scan correctly so I did a manual install. Unfortunately I had to stop when it mentioned using the “included” Ethernet cable, which wasn’t included. I then configured it using the WPS approach but none of my devices received any signal despite the extender appearing to transmit.

On my iPhone, I kept getting a separate security certificate error message and it didn’t receive internet either. I tried to go through the reconfiguration steps several more times and then called tech support.

After being on hold for almost an hour, I was connected to someone who said I needed to speak to a specialist. I was on hold for 30 more minutes. By this point, when I checked my computer, it seemed to be receiving a signal.

I couldn’t check my phone because I was speaking on it, but the tech support person said that the error message I got was nothing to worry about and it shouldn’t appear again. But the next day, it did and I couldn’t send email from my iPhone without shutting off the nighthawk extender.

I looked online for solutions and apparently this is a common, known problem with this extender and Apple products. All of the “solutions” being suggested on the community forum involved significant admin level changes to fix and many seemed to weaken network security.

As an IT professional, I’m perfectly capable of doing complex command language level changes, but not if it compromises my network security. Consequently, I ended up returning the product. The return process seems to have gone smoothly but I’ve not seen my charge refunded yet so I’m reluctant to say that it’s too easy.

Overall, I’d recommend going with a brand other than Netgear especially if you have Apple devices that you need to connect.

I bought this system because a friend of mine has it and because of the Netgear name. I have even talked a friend of mine to purchase this system on Cyber Monday which he did but was only able to purchase the Router and 1 Satellite instead of the two because the Cart would add it but when you try to go to the next step the cart was empty.

I even tried to purchase it for him and had the same results. I told him to purchase the Router and 1 Satellite to have this system at the reduced price. So I have tried to install the Router several times now and have had no connection between the Modem and the Router.

I have tried to power them up, unplug everything, used a different ethernet cord, moved the Router to a different location and still everything I tried the Router doesn’t connect to the TDS modem with an IP address.

The TDS Modem does put out TCP/IP to things that get plugged into it so I know that the TDS modem is working and that the ports on the back of it work. The TDS modem is a WiFi modem and I do not know if this is an issue but it shouldn’t be since the Netgear Modem is getting plugged directly into the TDS modem.

I do not know if my Netgear Modem is bad because the only way to trouble shoot this is to take it to work and plug it into that network to see if it can obtain an IP from that router. The person (friend of mine) who talked me into this system says that it one of the best and that he has no issues, my friend that I talked into buying this system is in his late 60’s so I guess I will have to go to his place and try to set his up because he is unable to, I think it is more that he is not a Techie so things are harder for him to do.

All in all, I wish I wasn’t having these issues because I believe that Netgear makes great stuff, I have bought Netgear back in the 1990’s when I hosted LAN party’s because they where the best, I hope that the issue is with TDS and not this unit but with the testing that I have done it is pointing to the Router and not my TDS modem.

I connected to my Xfinity wifi without issue then a few weeks later started getting issues on the xfinity internet feed. The Xfinity tech came and ran tests and said that I can’t run the Lynksys 6500 extender as they are old technology and not compatible with the wifi6 tech that Xfinity uses.

Disconnected the linksys and my internet works again. if I turn on again I start to get connection issues after a couple of hours. I was told by xfinity I should get a mesh unit. Not an extender for wifi6.

Lynksys needs to put that info in their specs. Now I own a boat anchor.

I have used one of these for a few years now, and it always works. It is very easy to see if the original signal is strong enough because you will see a white steady light. If it turns to orange steady, it means you are a little too far from the main router, and you have to shorten the distance.

I have not used the phone app that helps with this because it is so easy just to get the white light and know it’s good. Speed is very fast, and having 4 gigabit ethernet ports in the garage without having to have dug a trench for wires makes this thing well worth it.

Linksys/Belkin is the way to go for all networking gear now. Linksys is the best (stay away from netgear stuff with all their online registration and constant automatic updates), and this device is superb.

I am online now buying another one for a friend and have set up several of these for people I know, and they are all still working.

Perhaps it isn’t the extenders fault but I bought this extender specifically for my Roku TV and it just does not work. Everything else seems to connect fine enough, but if you’re looking to connect a Roku to this, I would recommend checking out something else.

Also, very sketchy customer service. They ask for way too much information for no real reason other than “it will help future support calls go more smoothly”. Meanwhile, next time I called support they stated they had none of my information saved.

Incredibly suspect.

Needed internet access in an outbuilding which was in direct line of sight, through a brick wall, of the router but too far away for WiFi to reach (20m). Had spent days looking online at dual band and tri band, WiFi 5 and WiFi 6, which really confused me and the variations in price and reviews were bogging me down.

Decided to just give this a try as it was on offer. It works! Initially placed (10m) halfway between the router and where I wanted the signal as instructed, the device lit up green suggesting good connectivity but it didn’t give me the improved range I wanted so moved further away.

At 16m away, still green, the coverage and speed was much improved but not good enough for high speed gaming. At 27m away, the signal was now red and it suggested I should move it closer to the router, however the speed is now as good as it is in the house and perfect for gaming (and watching Netflix) through the extender at the same time! Our pc was connected through 2.

4ghz and the Netflix through 5Ghz. As a bonus, I can also connect to WiFi, right down the garden another 15m further on from the extender which is 27m from the router! Technical stuff – I have WiFi-5, dual band (should say on your router whether it’s 5 or 6, or disconnect and connect to your WiFi and if it says WAP-5 then it’s WiFi 5, if you have the option of 2.

4 and 5Ghz then you have dual band – if it doesn’t show on your router, type 192. 168. 1. 254 into the internet search bar and use the passcodes on the back of your router to log onto your router control centre and it should tell you under ‘my devices’).

I doubted whether the tri-band devices would work with my dual band router which is part of the reason I purchased this extender. I’d happily buy another at full price now and have recommended to family and friends.

Internet speed tests now consistently show poorer results when this device is plugged in. No idea why. Our son set this up for us. All the blue leds are on, as they apparently should be. The differences are not huge, but they are not in this units favour – plugged in they are around 10 for download and 7 for upload.

Unplugged? 14/9. Both sets of figures are poor. We only began to notice over the later part of lockdown, so the amount of traffic may have something to do with it. The online manual is a horrifying mess, the exact and precise opposite of plug and play.

Looking at it makes my heart sink. Even if you do set it up correctly, plainly it doesnt necessarily stay that way. Resoundingly NOT recommended. And I challenge all those who thought this was beneficial to at least try switching it off and see what happens.

Plug it in near the router, press the WPS button on the router snd the WPS on the TP-Link, wait about 30 seconds, repeat the procedure for the 5ghz frequency (if you have it, if not dont bother). Move it then to a socket not too far away from the router, wait a couple of moments and job done.

Much easier than I expected; took no more than 10 minutes to set up. Instructions are very clear and easy to follow. Coverage is excellent: the erratic signal from the router is perfect now in those parts where it would come and go and be regularly interfered with by neighbouring routers.

As I move around the house, devices switch automatically from the original router to the extender and back. Doubtless, there will be some situations, eg big house and/or many and thick walls, where the coverage might not be adequate (buy a mesh system for that, perhaps), but for most domestic users this gadget will be more than enough.

Only a small criticism: the device is larger than the pictures suggest and you need to ensure enough space around the wall socket when the aerials are extended.

Added coverage in multi floor home. XB7 is better from Comcast, but for those that cannot rent, this works. Must set up xFi Mesh to use. And helps with devices that need ethernet RJ45 connection in remote location or devices that don’t like mesh.

Have 5 br house, top 2 floors had very weak signal. Received pods, plugged in and activated per easy instructions and now receive strong signal in upper floors. Totally doing what they are supposed too, working perfect.

They randomly cut out and never seem to consistently work, even buying the gen 2 pods for 119 per is better than the horrible 3 pack for the same price(gen 1)

I can’t recommend to NOT buy this product enough. There is no way to tell if it’s connected and working in your home, the app that it has you download is faulty at best, and down right criminal at worst.

Calling the customer support to get help my extender losing connection every day resulted in a confirmation that the app is only meant for setup, but on the app store and on the product instructions that come with the product it confirms its supposed to be used to manage the use of the product.

On top of that the customer support is absolutely worthless, both calling in and with their chat support. They’re third party, as is everyone these days, but after spending hours with multiple of them they have don’t even have the decency to check what product you bought from netgear; one rep I had literally copy and pasted the support from their customer support page (I’m online and asking for help netgear, obviously I’ve already googled quick fixes and they don’t work).

When this thing works, it works great, the issue though is the app tells you you lose connection every hour or so, and the PC setup website you go through also doesn’t confirm when the extender is working and when your router stops utilizing the extender.

This is the first netgear product I’ve ever used, and it will be the last; cherry on top of this interaction was being told by their third party customer support over the phone (they use a vpn to make it seem like they’re in California but I got the rep to admit he was in India) that he couldn’t help me and to call netgears business centers directly (not the number they provide you) if I needed continued support.

For your sanity, DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.

Here’s my honest opinion. This product (and many others like it) will “help” somewhat in extending your Wi-Fi range. However, would I have found is you are WAY better off opting for the higher end base Wi-Fi box that most companies now offer.

I didn’t think it mattered at first, but I found that PLACEMENT of your base Wi-Fi box makes an enormous difference in how wide your wireless footprint will be in your home. Don’t place it in a corner or near large windows or large mirrors.

Don’t put it near the floor, near TV sets or other electronic equipment. Place it at average height and as close to the center of your room as you can get it (not always easy). It may take some creative rearrangement, but the end result will be much better than getting ANY of these extender boxes.

I’ve tried many of these extenders (including this one) and nothing came close to simply placing my base Wi-Fi box correctly, which for me is Xfinity’s latest brand new “XB-8” Wi-Fi gateway box.

I needed to extend and boost my wifi signal. After careful debate, I decided on the Nighthawk AC1900 WIFI PLUGIN EXTENDER. It was more than what I had planned on spending, but felt it was worth it. I ordered it from BESTBUY about 9am on a Saturday and received by 4pm the same day.

I was excited. I downloaded the Nighthawk App, followed instruction to install, twice. I could not get it to function with my Verizon Frios router. I call netgear Customer help line. Tech remoted into my network to diagnose my problem.

After being on hold, the tech came back and told me thatI needed to pay another $15 or $50 (I couldn’t really understand tech due to tech heavy accent) for a needed software. I explained that the unit just did an update.

She stated that the software had to be paid for with her and that it must be installed by a tech. I explained that I just paid almost $200 for the extender and asked if there was another netgear model that doesn’t require additional software.

The tech hug up on me. I then. Allen best buy, and they approved the unit to be returned for a return. I’m looking at Linksysor other brands. Greatly disappointed.

The Linksys Max-Stream AC1900 dual Band repeater is a good way to increase coverage in your home. If you are not using a mesh wifi router, or possibly even if you are, the Linksys Max Stream repeater will allow you to connect wireless devices that may not otherwise be in range of your primary wireless router.

The Max-Stream AC1900 repeater works by connecting to your wireless system, so it will have to be placed in a location where it can reach your wifi signal and it must be plugged into an electrical plug in order to have power.

Once your wife router recognizes the Linksys AC 1900 you will then give your Linksys Max stream a name and a password and it will show up on your devices as a separate wifi connection. At least that is how I am using this device.

Then you only have to connect your devices to this new wifi network created by the Dual band repeater. I have a nice router, but I was finding that the signal was getting pretty weak in places in my home, especially on the far end of the basement where I had an entertainment area set up for the kids.

Be adding this repeater, I was able to provide a much stronger signal in those areas. I don’t think the signal is nearly as fast as being directly connected to the primary wifi router, but it is certainly better than not having any signal at all or only a very weak wifi signal.

The whole process is very simple to do and only takes a few minutes to complete. The other option would be a larger and much more expensive mesh wifi system.

I added this to my existing MR9000 router. I also have a RE6400 extender. I find that like with their other products their firmware is really buggy and not tested very well. The particular extender RE7000, was no exception.

it didn’t always save your settings, setting up a static IP was a pain. settings would not save until you unplugged it from the wall. For both extenders i recommend using the 5Ghz upload link and allow your devices to connect to the extender in 4G.

seems to be the most reliable setting if your going from AP router in a basement to 3rd floor. Speed is not compromised at all and connection is stable. Didn’t bother with the “mesh” aspect since i want to know which SSID i’m connected to, plus iphones will automatically switch to the strongest connection anyways.

It works, but it sure is temperamental, and it’s a real pain with a Mac. Setup was not bad, but not as easy as it could have been. It did not see the router, even though it was less than a foot away from a WiFi6 monster.

Once I manually entered the SSID, I was able to connect. Because the router was not Linksys, the instructions automatically created a new network name. This is a pain if you’re trying to create a mesh, as you have to completely drop from the base network or manually shift to the new one, or both.

While my iPhone and iPad worked fine, my MacBook Air could not get a router connection to the base. The only way to get it to work was to manually copy the TCP/IP information from the Windows machine and enter it on the MacBook.

This, of course, meant that I had to go back and change it to Automatic every time I left this house (Starbucks, airport lounge, etc. ). This worked, but it was a real pain. Then the other devices started acting up when connected.

In turn, my Windows devices, iPad, and iPhone could not get an Internet connection through the extender, even though the they could through the base router, and all settings appeared fine. The only way I could get it to work was to unplug the extender, let it reset, and plug it back in.

At this point, I am returning it. While I can get it to work, it really should not be this difficult to use.

So far it works well. It can cover the wifi range to make the weak points within my house far better than before. The only shortcoming is its app setup procedure. I used the nighthawk app to set it up.

At the very beginning, it has its own network and my phone needs to connect to its own network to set it up. It worked well, and after all wifi settings mostly finished, I noticed that a firmware upgrade is needed and clicked upgrade.

However, after that the app still shows the original set-up is not yet finished, and at that point I can no longer connect to its own network to finish the setup. So now the app is stuck there and I cannot do any further.

But anyway the box can work its extender function well, and after I moved it to a different location it works as expected, though I cannot continue setting it up anymore. I think there is some bug with the app software.

I guess next time, if I change my wifi router with a new wifi username and password, I will need to click the reset button to recover it to the original factory setting and do this from the very beginning, and the nighthawk app also needs to be reset.

As of now, I do not need to worry, and should be able to enjoy its extender function.

Says easy 5 minute set up, hassle free. I spent 2. 5 hrs with the router plugged in next to a 4 month old Nighthawk wifi6 5g router. it never would link in either 2. 4g or the 5g bands. Couldn’t get closer as I set it onto the router.

LEDs never lit up on the device side. Surprise turning it off and back on did nothing. Nor did unplugging it and plugging it back in. In short even with decades in IT work I couldn’t get this to link up.

Now maybe I had a bad one. but having all instructions and set up based upon if you can get the extender to link n make its own WiFi network to log into should be a router only thing. On day 3 it melted.

Got so hot plugged into a wall outlet the plastic case melted. I had given up and taken the WiFi extender upstairs to see if it was just stubborn and it melted like a toddler throwing a tantrum. Output tested fine by an electrician no other things plugged into that output have melted.

All in all a wild item never worked and the spontaneously melts into a puddle of goo. Not gonna recommend unless you like frustration and a clean up.

I’ve been trying to eliminate 2 connection issues upstairs in 2 guest rooms. 1 on the N. Side and the other on the S. Side of the house with allot of buffering while trying to stream Netflix, Hulu, and so on.

Completed my homework and chose this WiFi extender and dumped the old one. I was honestly expecting to be let down because boatloads of products always claim to do allot and never actually work. Well, so far so good time will tell if this extender holds up.

The directions were pretty straight forward to complete set up. The key is 4 green lights with the best location for optimal performance. I had to move it around about 4 times and found the best location! I placed it above an arching window in my den downstairs that’s in view of the room above the garage.

From the room above the garage you can see the extender at the top of the window on the ledge. Netflix and the other wireless apps on the smart t. v. And FireStick are connecting and now streaming without buffering! A headache solved.

Give it a try, be patient and move it around until you find a spot lateral to the router and midway From the room with connection issues. This for me was on the ledge of the arching window. The first three locations had all green lights but the signal had too many barriers to go thru! Try to find a spot with the least amount of barriers and I believe you’ll be successful as well.

I received this extender as a present a few months ago. Finally I decided to try it because my with EX6100 doesn’t reach my rear yard. I am very happy with my EX6100. It does what it supposed to do and I can always get into the user page to modify settings.

The EX3700 is a nightmare. I lost count of how many times I have factory restored it and start the setup from scratch. I reached out to the customer service and I was told I needed to buy a service package because I was past the three-month period.

The representative had a very thick accent and I can tell he was reading a prompt. I am positive he doesn’t know how the item works. After many attempts, I was able to set it up. I get signal to my iPad, and even though the extender most of the time has the top-left light red or yellow, the signal keeps coming through.

I think the hardware is damaged. I would not recommend this model. Get one that lets you get into the user/settings page every single time and avoid the frustration.

I was looking for a wifi extender that could help expand the Wi-Fi to my room because the connection to my room was pretty low and seeing how many reviews this product has, I was pretty excited to try it.

The package came as expected and it was well covered. My router was in the living room and I placed the extender a few feet away from it; in the same room. I followed the instructions as instructed but problems arose; connecting the wps to the router didn’t work no matter what I had tried, and I decided to try to connect it to the router online with the website, but it kept saying how I need to connect to the extender to be able to use it.

I later called the company a few days later but the process was long and I decided that the Wi-Fi in my room was fine compared to the long process that I have to go through just to have a better connection.

It was probably because the companies were different but I wouldn’t want to buy this and I would say to research what you need before you decided to purchase it.

I got the Netgear EX3700 delivered from B&H super fast which is great. The extender is very easy to set up, with just a browser either on your smartphone or computer. (The only thing I don’t quite like is that, in order to log on to the set up screen, Netgear forces you to create an account with them, if you don’t already have one.

) Once logged on, setting up the extender is really easy, you just need to follow the instructions on the set up browser page, with the password of your existing router’s account, very simple. And the extender performs well in the house where I had it set up.

Signals are strong in both 2. 4G band and 5G band covering the area where I need it to extend WiFi signal. It’s a good gadget to expand your WiFi coverage.

I was able to clone my WiFi network fairly easily by following the instructions, and by placing the booster/range extender on the other floor of my house within range of the main router, I was able to successfully extend the range of the WiFi signal.

Be aware that this device only supports the 2. 4Ghz range. Therefore, you either need an older router which only broadcasts a 2. 4Ghz signal, or a newer router which broadcasts both 2. 4Ghz and 5Ghz signals simultaneously.

If your router only transmits a 5Ghz signal, this device will not be compatible. There is an optional app you can download for your mobile phone to check the configuration of the booster/range extender once it has been set up.

It allows you to relocate the device to the edge of minimum required signal from your existing router, allowing you to place it as close as possible to the previous no signal area. This way, you dont have to guess which socket is either too close to, or too far away from, your existing router in order to extend the signal in the most efficient manner possible.

The above having been said, I can now use all my devices (mobile phones, tablet PCs, laptop, etc) all over the house with complete WiFi coverage on the 2. 4Ghz signal!.

Let’s get this out of the way immediately. I am not a fan of Wireless Extenders, especially single band versions like this one. Getting wifi to remote areas can be achieved more effectively using ethernet cable, Powerline Adapter kits, upgrading to a new AC Router or even re-positioning your current router.

The issue with single band Range Extenders is that they have to talk to the router and connected devices on the same band, effectively halving the bandwidth to any connected devices. Extenders should ideally be located at the mid-point between the router and the location where wireless extension is required.

If a basic or old router is being used then range and bandwidth are likely compromised even before adding the range extender and halving whatever bandwidth is available in the first place. This brings me to the 860RE.

The unit is well built and relatively small and having a power socket is a bonus as well as a signal strength indicator. Effectively this will let you know if you are too close or too far away from the router.

Much easier than using software diagnostics to look at signal strength. It stayed cool during testing and as far as I can tell never dropped off my network. I was not able to get WPS to work with my Asus RT AC66U, so I set up the range extender manually.

It connected to my wireless network easily and I was able to test its capabilities by sending packets of data to and from a remote laptop using Totusofts LanSpeed software. I connected to the laptop using only 2.

4ghz N. Transferring files through the range extender to the laptop I saw speeds of 11. 9 megabits per second or when I connected to the laptop using just the router I was able to see speeds of 55. 1 megabits per second.

11. 9megabits per second is enough to surf the net and send email, but forget streaming video or music. I can’t say that the TP Link WA 860RE is a bad product as it works as effectively as the laws of physics and wifi allow it to, however I am not sure of a specific group of consumers who would benefit from this product.

This extender is well built like all TP Link products, comes with an Ethernet port, signal strength meter, power socket and was relatively easy to set up manually. It is inexpensive to buy and comes with standard 12 month warranty.

If you are not able to run Ethernet, upgrade your router, use Powerline (TP Link have some excellent Powerline kits), then a range extender could be considered. Just remember single band range extenders communicate with the router and connected devices on the same band.

This WiFi Range Extender (EX3110) was easy to set-up with an online assistant that walks you through each step. The extender is very convenient– I can unplug it from one part of my house to plug it into another part quickly, and it begins extending WiFi approximately 45 seconds to one minute after being plugged in.

One notable drawback is that the WiFi extender noticeably decreases the efficacy of your router/main network. I live in a college house of 9 people, and the 4 individuals who live in the unit where the router is located have noticed their WiFi become slow and ineffective when all myself and 2 others use the WiFi range extender from our own unit.

I have set up the extender in two separate locations of the house, with each location having drawbacks: when I set up the extender close to my room, my WiFi has 3 bars and is very fast; however, my roommate’s WiFi on the other side of the house is essentially down/not working.

When I plug in the extender halfway between my room and my roommate’s unit across the house, all of our WiFi works moderately well, until all 9 of us are using it, in which we have very patchy WiFi. Overall, this product is effective and easy to use.

Beware if you plan to use it in a house with more than 8 people connected to one network; it may be possible to find a solution by moving the extender to different areas of the house, but you may be better of with a mesh network system.

Seems to work well so far. My TP-Link WiFi router is towards the front of the house, so at the back of the house inside the signal was low and outside there was no signal. I placed the Extender more towards the back of the house than the middle, where it still gets a full signal from the router plus increases the signal on devices at the back of the house to 100% inside and 60% outside.

Setup was easy following the instructions – I used the online instructions and did the setup manually as this was recommended in a video I watched on YouTube. But I’ve read other reviews saying the automatic setup works too.

You do have to be aware that the Extender has a separate name and therefore separate connection compared to your main router. You therefore have to swap between them in order to get the best signal depending on which part of the house you’re in.

I use the same password for both connections to make it easier to swap if I have to. But my kids are mainly in the back and middle of the house, so they just stay on the Extender connection and I’m in the middle and front of the house so I stay on the main Router connection.

So far there has been no detectable loss of signal to devices connected to the Extender although occasionally the LED turns to red but the devices are still showing a connection. Happy with this and the good price I got from Harvey Norman at the time of purchase.

I just brought this home, walked in the door, unboxed it and had it hooked up and running in under 5 minutes! It’s working great. I couldn’t stream video in the two upstairs bedrooms farthest away from the router downstairs.

Using the enclosed quickstart guide, I connected the extender to my Comcast gateway via the WPS buttons – first to the 2. 4 GHz then to the 5 GHz band. Then I took it upstairs and plugged it into an outlet in the hallway.

The power light was amber, then the WPS light turned on green. I went in the bedroom and connected my iPad Wi-Fi to the 5 GHz band which came up as a choice under my network name and entered my network password.

It connected immediately. I can stream video now without buffering and freezing and my download speed has increased substantially. I’m always surprised and delighted when tech products actually work the first time around and I don’t have to spend hours troubleshooting and trying to figure it out.

I’m very happy with my purchase and highly recommend this extender.

These are by far, some of the worst mesh systems I’ve ever used. I have given these things nearly 6 months, but will be returning them. Setup: Setup seems simple enough, but nowhere close to as smooth as Eero, Linksys or Nest Wifi (Google wifi).

If you don’t setup the nodes/satellites correctly it can be difficult to get them adjusted later on, my units needed to be reset 3 times before they recognized my modem and it’s internet connection. App: all modern mesh systems need a good app to accompany the hardware.

For diagnostic purposes, checking network health, updating basic settings. But this app is very unreliable, only seems to work well if you are directly connected to the network. On top of that they spam you about their warranties/network protection services.

Operation: this is the crux of the issue with this unit. I live in a small apartment, but I needed hardline connections in every room. So I went with the 3 pack, so I could hardwire as many devices as possible that need as low of latency as possible.

The 800mbps that I have coming in, immediately off the first satellite, on my wifi 6 devices with direct line of sight to router, they get 450-600 mbps. The good news is at the farthest satellite, I will still get about 400 mbps.

But to be honest, unless you’ve got a lot of bandwidth/speed to play with, this is a similar drop off to just using a range extender. My old Linksys Velop system maintained about 90% of its speed wirelessly, but losing 50% is very pitiful performance-wise (and yes all firmware is up-to-date Netgear, stop treating your customers as if they are stupid).

But the biggest reason for my disdain for this product comes from its constant failure and reboots! This unit will either tank (speeds as high as 2-4mbps) or completely shut down and start back up for absolutely no reason.

I have lost too many online matches this way or have been disconnected during important calls just because the router was “tired” or throwing a fit. My modem, which is nearing 4 years old at this point, chugs along just fine.

I cannot stress enough, DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. If you need wifi 6, buy Eero, Velop or Amplifi. Do not bother with the joke that is Netgear nor their inferior “premium” brand Nighthawk. This performance barely justifies a $200 price tag, let alone a $500 one.

This will work in a pinch if you don’t require a lot of performance. But for my needs there were two big drawbacks. 1. It doesn’t switch locally – That means that 2 devices connected to the extender, via wireless or Ethernet, don’t talk to each other directly through the extender.

The extender sends the packets back to the main router first. This really reduces the throughput of local transfers. If you’re copying files from your phone to your PC in the same room as the extender, they’re going to be a lot slower than you would expect.

2. Ethernet is only 10/100. Really? In 2021 we’re still withholding gigabit Ethernet as a premium feature for higher product tiers? For the non-technical people: this means that even if you have a really fast internet connection, anything connected to the Ethernet port is going to max out at 100Mbps or less.

I put this wifi extender in my garage because of front smart lights that were having issues keeping a strong wifi connection. This has fixed my issue and was easy to install. Some people have complained that it slows your internet down.

That is not a problem with the extender, it is just science. Any extender will have slow down because ithe wifi signal is not going directly to your device anymore. Without extender, speed test showed 55mbs.

With extender it was at 38 mbs. For my purposes, that is plenty fast for smart lights.

The AC750 WiFi Extender (RE205 ) is relatively easy to install and setup, and it does extend your WiFi signal, but be aware that it basically adds another SSID the same as your existing WiFi name but adds “EXT” as an extension, so it is not as seamless as a mesh system would give you.

Also, if you want to configure the “backhaul” connection, besides using the “Auto” function, the RE205 only gives you 2 pre-configured options. 1) between the router and extender 5Ghz | between the extender and device 2.

4Ghz 2) between the router and extender 2. 4Ghz | between the extender and device 5Ghz So unless you choose “Auto” and leave it up to the device to decide what it does, there is no way to have both 2.

4Ghz and 5Ghz connections to the client. Finally, if you change router settings and “apply” the settings, the RE205 looses it’s hard wired connection to the device and it won’t re-establish automatically.

If you’re looking for a basic extender, this may work for you, but if you want better performance, better options, and seamless WiFi integration, look at other options.

We had our TP-Link for approx 5 years before phones etc starting cutting out on our Fibre Network. Happy while it lasted. At times on a few occasions movies on Chrome-cast would cut out, but overall a great wee WiFi extender and did the job well.

We have very poor WiFi capability and so we were very pleased that this cheap extender actually worked ok. Chrome-cast for TV & 2x Phones were set up on this extender through the Tether App and all worked great.

We recently purchased WiFi speakers & Sub and found that they kept cutting out. In my opinion if you are wanting to set up more than 3 appliances then you will need to get a better WI-FI Extender as this T-P Link can’t handle a lot of connections.

We had WI-FI range from 300 metres away and worked well in inclosed spaces. Great wee unit for an affordable price on special. As I mentioned Great for a couple of phones and a Chromecast but more than that appliances start to cut out.

Tether App was the easiest method to set this extender up for us. We had ours installed in the kitchen at the opposite end of the house from the router, worked best for us there. 5 stars because it worked well, easy set up & affordable.

Shame you can’t add more than one to get better coverage etc.

When a new tenant moved downstairs and completely out of range of the wireless network, it became clear that getting a Range Extender was in order. Fortunately, I was able to find this one at a very reasonable price.

For anybody that’s previously owned or used a wireless extender, using it will be pretty straightforward. Even for a user that’s completely new to wireless extenders, getting this one to work isn’t overwhelmingly difficult.

Interfacing with the extender is done via an internal phantom-web-page, which further contains its own GUI. While the GUI can be a little bit confusing at first, it’s still well designed for the most part and all it takes is a little patience to begin using it successfully.

Then, with just a bit of further patience, you’ll be good to go. The only caveat to keep in mind? Owing in part to the fact that this is a very reasonably priced device, its ‘range’ is not super far.

Oh, it is far, and it will help a distant computer access the broadband offered by the central router, but it’s simply not ‘super far’. Overall, it’s a great product and terrifically priced!.

I bought this product because the Fiber network they installed in our house is in the worst possible location and meant there were so many wifi dead zones where you couldn’t pick up the wifi at all and worst, none in our living room! I bought this product weary of the quality considering it’s price but am happy to report that it works an absolute charm! I would buy this again if ever I needed to for other family members but will definitely be raving about it! Thank you the warehouse for stocking such a product, I’m ecstatic with my purchase!.

I struggled to connect to the device and I struggled to use the setup page that has multiple web address if said one didn’t work. Super confusing. Overall took me over an hour to setup but to connect the device the sign in was simple and connected to full speed right away.

I live back in the woods so streaming can glitch. So far streaming has been smooth and before I struggled to connect to wifi just to open Hulu.

IšverstiShow in original languageI’ve had 2 of these little guys and at first I have no complaints. For under $30 they work fantastic and cover the area I need but now the 2nd one just quit after 3 months.

Even the 1st only lasted just over a year but that was me only plugging it in when needed so it really only lasted about the same amount of use time. Hoping I can get a replacement under warranty for this one, otherwise I think next time I’ll spend a little more for hopefully a longer lasting one.

Have been overall satisfied with other Netgear products but I’m not sure what’s happening here with these.

IšverstiShow in original languageI got one for my daughter room in January and she like it. So far her Apple laptop work great, rest of the house had next to no internet so frustrating. I didn’t want to interrupt my child classes online so I was not gonna use the extender for test of us.

But my frustration grew by March I had it, so ordered another on for the other side of the house. Connection was not hard because we already had one connected to the cable wifi. So far so good only have lost connection few times but for brief min.

I have the extender almost over two years and today the performance is insufficient. Because my PC has no WLAN module, I bought the extender to directly connect my PC with an RJ45 cable (a connection with the router was not possible due to space-limitations).

In the first months the connection was ok (I had about 20Mbs) but over time the connection got worse. When I try to check the connection on the extender, it is a game of luck if I managed to get a connection – via cable.

The connection between the router and the router is shown to be quite good (80%-90% with approx. 200Mbs) but when I do an online speedtest, it achieves 0. 5MBs – both with cable and with my phone, connected to the extended network.

When doing a speedtest with a WLAN connection of my phone to the router I get over 100MBs – that’s 200 times better! I had enough of it and bought a simple USB WLAN adapter.

I have this little extender running in my barn to extend my farm network! Yes the horses need internet also lol. This little unit has been on for more than 2 years 24/7 maybe rebooted once lol. What it does is feeds internet to my outdoor wifi plugs that control the horses water trough heaters so it’s value is important which it does and has been doing flawlessly.

I understand it’s not really a simple simple device for most people to comprehend how to figure out at times and I think that’s why this extender and most extenders get such bad reviews. Regardless if you happen to know just a little about the directions you’ll appreciate this device.

Remember that this model broadcast only the 2. 4 Ghz wifi of your network so if you want both 2. 4 and 5 Ghz then look for Netgears other extender.

I just installed my new Netgear N300 and I am WAY impressed! I live in a pretty big ranch-style home, so the modem is connected in a front room where the DirecTV is already wired in to connect to the modem.

It’s far away from the other rooms, but I couldn’t really move the modem closer to where I work on my computer in the back of the house. After researching different options and reading reviews to see which were genuine, I chose this model and was hoping for the best.

I am VERY happy with this Netgear extender so far (even though I’ve only had it connected for about 30 minutes). I read through the instructions and they were easy to follow, but I’ll just explain what I did, which only took 3-4 minutes and required almost NO WORK on my part.

1. Plug the Netgear extender in an outlet in the same room or very near your modem/router. This will help it pair quickly with your modem. 2. Let the lights on the Netgear light up from amber/red and wait until you see the various LED light up green.

If nothing happens, try pressing the “on/off” button on the side of the Netgear. 3. Press the “WPS” button on the Netgear FIRST; then within 2 minutes (immediately is fine), press the “WPS” button on your modem.

Note: If you don’t have a WPS button, look at the instructions for how to hook up your extender using a browser – it’s easy. 4. Once you click the WPS buttons on each device, it will start pairing — you will see the Netgear do a little light show for a minute.

Once the lights are green and stable, you can now unplug it. 5. Bring your Netgear somewhere in-between your modem/router placement and where you need it to extend your WiFi into (like a bedroom, living room) – remember, don’t place the extender too far away from the modem or it won’t connect, which defeats the purpose.

— I placed mine in the middle of the hallway leading back to the back of the house – a nice half-way point. 6. Plug the Netgear into the outlet and wait until it turns green again (all lights that illuminate should turn green if you have placed it in a great spot).

If one of the lights is amber, try moving it closer to the modem. 7. If all lights are green, you’re good! Leave it plugged in and point the antenna to beam the signal to where you want it. 8. Use your computer or smartphone and go to your WiFi options.

9. The extender will have AUTOMATICALLY created the WiFi choice for you: it will be your EXISTING WiFi name with “_EXT” at the end. Easy as pie. 10. Click that WiFi name and login using your existing password.

You’re DONE! I looked on my computer and immediately saw I had FULL bars for once, and so I ran a speed test and it’s SO much better now. Now I can actually use my smart TV again, my phone, and my computer in my back room and everywhere else back here! The installation was so simple.

While it looks like a long ordeal with the instructions above, that’s just because it’s written out. It really only takes 3-4 minutes. It just consists of plugging it in, pressing WPS buttons, waiting for the Netgear to turn green, plugging the Netgear in where you need to extend your WiFi, and clicking “connect” on the new WiFi name that it automatically creates for you.

I could not be more impressed with the simplicity and how easy they made it. I’m pretty good at tech-related stuff, but the fact that I had to do nothing made me happy. Definitely worth the money.
