20 Best Xxl Dog Bed (2022 Updated)

Our dog LOVES it! It is well designed and manufactured. For the past 20 years, we always bought our pups Orvis beds (both Rotties) bc of the interchangeable parts and durable quality. However, about 4 years ago, the quality of all the orvis dog beds significantly declined, so we started picking up $60-$80 beds at the stores whenever the existing one would wear out.

In the past 4 years, I believe we have gone through a minimum of 8 beds (2 locations in our home). We have an 11 yr old Rottie, Madison, who was starting to have joint issues, but otherwise is in great health.

We decided that she needed a good orthopedic bed so I started researching online. We found all the articles we read mentioned Big Barker as a top choice. After reading all the reviews, I was slightly concerned about the reviews stating their dogs would not get on the bed, but with free shipping and the BB return policy, we decided to take a chance.

Very grateful we did bc she loves the bed. No hesitation at all. What I love most is that she is still sound asleep every morning on the bed when I get up and is not already up staring at me. Thanks Big Barker!.

The main thing I disliked is that the pillow is in 2 halves, meaning it’s a giant pillow with a seam in the middle. This makes the pillow automatically buckle in the center, even when it’s brand new.

This means it is slouchy and not very supportive. My dog is not big, 18 pounds, and it is partially collapsed with him on it. The water proof layer is just the top surface layer of the pillow, not the sides or the edges, so if it’s a big pee – the pillow is going to get wet anyway running down the sides.

The surface is soft but not very dense with the faux fur. The canvas edges and the bottom layer are sturdy and debris resistant so it stays looking clean when you set it down outside. It’s ok for the price.

Honestly I returned it and like the style with a firm base and a soft pillow top, which is much more supportive and my dog melts to sleep on it. Appreciate Chewy’s return policy.

Purchased three of these beds for three 75-80 lb kids. It states that the beds are 39 inches long by 28 inches wide which they are. The thickness states it is 7 inches. It is not. It is actually 4 inches thick.

I was very disappointed when I took it out of the box to put it together and found out it was not 7 inches thick but 4 inches thick. I left the other two beds still in their shipping box because I was planning on returning the 3 of them.

I left the open bed on the couch and the next morning when I woke up I found one of my kids laying on bed which was on the couch. They seem to like the bed so we decided to keep them. They have slept on them everyday since we gave it to them on Christmas day.

Just so you know we ordered the extra large beds. They are for. Susie Q, a Golden Reteriver. Buddy, a Pitbull and for Alice, a Bluetick Coonhound. And they love their beds. So with that I have to recommend these beds.

This is actually the 2nd Armarkat Pillow Bed I have purchased. Got the exact same bed 8 yrs ago for my Great Dane in an XL so I know it is easy to clean. The cover comes off and thrown in the wash. Only negative is putting it back together.

Takes 2 of us; one holds the cover and the other stuffs the pillow back in. Holds up well. The first bed is still in use although after 8 years, is worn. Zipper still in tact, as is bedding and I wash cover monthly! And dog loves it so buying another for new family member!.

We have bought every bed in the past 7 years from here for our large German Shepard. She loves her bed. The other human tried to get her a diffrent bed and she was not happy. Favorite covers since she sheds like crazy are the Balistic and the denims.

The canvas was good but the hair did not let go quite as easy. All three covers keep her cool and look amazing!!.

Perfect size for our 95 pound Golden Retriever. The outer fabric is denim and very durable and washable. Inner waterproof liner protects memory foam. Our dog is very rough on her beds. she likes to pick up and shake and toss her beds around.

This bed is heavy and not easily tossed. I think it will last her a long time. Very pleased with the purchase. It arrives in a small package because the memory foam expands upon opening.

I have had 4 different dogs and constantly trying to find a well made durable dog bed for Shih-tzu’s we’re not talking Great Danes we’re talking Shih-tzu’s. These beds are well made. Constructed well with good material that wash up great! I can’t say enough I bought another pair just to have as a backup.

I purchased due to the good reviews, but was skeptical. I liked the pillows, but didnt think this would be good enough to stop my dog from jumping up into our bed. She likes to be close, and thats nice, but being a light sleeper its disruptive.

Its been about four weeks and she loves it! We are all sleeping better. Im proud to say Im a clean freak. Best to wash on heavy stain, cold and dry on gentle. Comes out perfect!.

I am very pleased. This bed is well worth the extra money. I researched dog beds for months prior to making this purchase and was overwhelmed by all the different types/options. Given how expensive orthopedic beds are, I was really worried about making the right choice.

Reading customer reviews really helped me to make the right decision, so here’s mine. We bought the Bowser extra large Double Donut bed, which fits our 105 lb German Shepherd perfectly (I probably would not recommend this bed for breeds any longer or larger).

The bed is very well made. The beautiful, soft hounds tooth fabric and luxurious bolster are unbelievably comfortable and are just a great way to pamper your pet, while the orthopedic foam bottom insert certainly appears to have its health benefits as advertised.

After only a few weeks, we noticed that our Shepherd (who usually exhibits moderate to severe arthritis related pain) is much more playful, able to get up and down more easily, and has a much broader range of motion.

The furniture grade bottom is the perfect height for getting him off the ground as he sleeps, while still making it comfortable to climb in and out of the bed not putting additional stress on his hind legs.

Our Shepard LOVES the bed and even gets very upset if anyone touches or attempts to move the bed. Our very bed-finicky Swiss Mountain dog mix even usurps the bed whenever possible (I definitely see a second bed in our very near future).

I rate this bed an A++ and would highly recommend it to other dog owners that only want the very best for their pets!.

I have owned many dog beds:) I ordered two of these (large & medium). We have four indoor dogs ranging from 70 lbs to 28 lbs. The purpose was to get them off the couch. And it worked — there is a dog in both at all times! They absolutely love them.

I will be ordering more. Super high quality fabric with nice firm (but yet soft enough) foam. Also loved the numerous choice of fabrics. They are spendy but you get what you pay for! One review claimed they had theirs for 10 years, which has lasted through several washings — after reading that I was sold! They are beautiful and fit in with our decor fabulously! Highly recommend.

Ordered this for my Akita! He absolutely loves it. He needed somewhere comfy to sleep but also waterproof as he can’t hold his bladder like he used too. This works great! Haven’t got o worry about the bed getting ruined but also it’s so easy on his joints.

This bed seems to be well made. The back of the cover with the non-skid dots is not a heavy duty material. It is very thin. The top is fluffy and white and seems to be like a fur type material. The zipper is easy to zip and plastic.

The side material seems an average thickness. The bed is supposed to be 4 inches thick. It is not 4 inches. We have waited for it to expand and it has been hours, but it only measures 3 inches with the expanded foam inside.

Overall, I would say this is not a bad bed, but not the exceptional one either. I was hoping it would be more firm and thicker, but it will due for now. If you have chewers, would definitely not recommend.

The cover is too thin, and then the foam would be exposed for the dogs to tear apart easily. Luckily our dogs are not chewers. Hoping it won’t squish down after being used by 2 pugs that are 20lbs each.

We will see.

This bed is thick , seems to be well made , seemed a little pricey , my dogs do use it all the time to lay on sleep , chew on chews and so on. I bought the biggest one and both my large 100+ GSD and a medium size dog will get on it , it is tight but they both fit on it and snuggle up.

They want to pull on the fluffy top if any little thing gets on it and down in the fluff , this worries me cause I know not much of that and I will have a whole and we all know from a whole it gets torn up in a short time , but I am with my dogs all the time so I can watch them and catch that issue but it would be a problem for others.

I would never put it in a Kennel they both would tear it up quickly unwatched. I have learned nothing stuffed (even toys) unless they are watched closely.

We have a VERY large boi: a brindle mastiff very appropriately named Drax the Destroyer. His last dog pillow (not purchased on Chewy) met a dramatic end, and he urgently needed a new one. We shopped around a while before deciding on this one.

It seemed big enough for him, the right shape, and the reviews suggested it would hold up well and be easy to clean. I am very pleased to report that this was exactly the case. Drax has had his new dog bed two months now, and I have successfully removed, washed, and put the cover back on without wanting to yeet it into the sun.

Additionally, while the cover was off, I inspected the foam pad and found no damage from him digging at it to get comfortable. (His previous bed was shredded to pieces inside of the cloth cover because of this.

) The foam pad had also not absorbed a lot of the dog smell through the cloth cover, which was nice. We were able to air it out and give Drax a fresh clean place to sleep by that evening. So if anyone is wondering, this dog pillow is mastiff-approved.

This is a favorite dog bed in our household. This is actually the second of this bed that we purchased. The first time was for our previous dog (Tibetan Terrier-35lbs and Med. Goldendoodle-50lbs) who liked to sit on the bed together.

At that time we got the XL, Orthopedic option. This was our first experience with Furhaven and a wonderful one at that. The dogs loved this bed, it held up perfectly, and it really helped them both have a comfortable place to lounge instead of the cold floor.

This had been for the latter part of their lives when they started to show signs of arthritis. For our current 2 year puppy (Lab/Whippet mix-55lbs), we got the L, Orthopedic option. We found out last year that she has hip dysplasia, so it was important to us that she have a really comfortable bed to lounge in all areas of the house.

This particular bed was for times when she wanted to lounge or curl up by the in the family room. This is a narrower space that this lounger fit in perfectly.

I purchased this dog bed to place on a new sofa for when our dog wants to be on the sofa. The overall quality appears to be excellent in both construction and fabrication. The removable, washable cover is a soft fleece and has a very sturdy zipper and substantial piping along edges and comes in three neutral colors.

The price was beyond reasonable and considering the high quality, it was an incredible bargain. It is the perfect size for our small dog and sofa’s seat depth. My only criticism is the bed itself is not as soft as our dogs’ other beds which he seems to prefer.

That is just a personal observation and not necessarily a negative. The site is easy to navigate and the ordering process went smoothly. It did take what I feel was a longer than expected delivery time but it was not through any fault of FurHaven.

The shipper’s movements were slow. I recommend the Luxe Lounger Dog Bed.

When I first unwrapped this bed I thought, “what did I buy?!” It was tiny, flat, crumpled and had a GIANT ridge down the middle. I almost repackaged it that evening to send back, but it was late and I decided to just head to bed.

Much to my shock the next morning, the bed had unfurled to 5 glorious inches of foam. It reminded me of those toys from the 5 and dime as a kid that needed warm water and then expanded to 10x their size.

Both dogs (I bought 2 beds) LOVE their new beds. I can tell they approve because any time I can’t find them on the couch, they are snuggled up on these beds. I bought the medium size which is a pretty close fit for their crates (42” size).

They are just slightly too wide, but they squish just a bit and it’s fine. The one thing I don’t like about their new beds is the zipper only goes across one long side and a couple inches down the short side.

Trying to wrangle a 5” piece of foam into a tiny zipper slot should be an Olympic sport. To save me from having to wrestle the beds in and out of the covers too frequently I bought a couple of standard sized crib sheets and put those over the top of the bed.

Problem solved!.

Well received the dog new bed. I have purchased several beds for multi dogs so I was not over excited about this one. Mostly soft mushy egg crate, but better than nothing. This was a whole new thing.

Right out of the box I loved it. It was not thicker than others ,3 or 4″, but the density was GREAT. My 75lb shepherd was not laying on the flood w/very little between her and the deck. Sorry to go on but this is w/o question the BEST real orthopedic BED I’ve ever purchased.

I ordered 3 different beds to replace my dog’s old ragged beds, and this one is by far her favorite. It is not as firm as I originally thought/hoped it would be, but she definitely prefers it to the firmer (memory foam) orthopedic beds I got her.

She has old hips, and has been through two knee surgeries, so her comfort is my first priority. The bed has a nice thickness, but is still “squishy” enough to feel soft and comfy to her. Although it has some give, she does not sink all the way to the floor, which was also important to me.

The cover comes off easily, and I expect it will be easy to wash. Another nice feature is that it has one furry side and one cotton-blend fabric side. So in the winter, when it is cold I will flip it to the furry side, but for now she (in her double coat) is enjoying the cool fabric side.

It’s a great purchase, which I would happily recommend to anyone – I might even get her two more to replace the others she doesn’t like as much!.

Finally! Someone made a bed that a dog loves to lay on and a human can clean easily. You would think it wouldn’t be that complicated to figure out but apparently the dog bed manufacturers can’t seem to figure it out until now.

We have had our 2 XL Gray beds for a little over 8 months now, and thanks to being able to wash them they look and smell brand new. Both our Bernese mountain dog mix and our Golden Retriever mix loves the beds.

If I had to choose again I would definitely go with these beds. I would also recommend this for any dogs with arthritis or hip dysplasia. It is really soft and gives lots of support. (We bought the XL Beds it may contain more filling/padding ).

I have 3 large dogs ranging from 40-60 pounds roughly (husky and two husky mixes with retriever and pit) and as soon as I took them out of the box they were all over it. They’re very plush and firm so it seems like they may not flatten down so easily.

The fabric seems strong too. I bought these as replacements for the Serta beds they loved but these seem better quality and slightly larger. We bought the smaller of the two (I’m glad we measured) and they are a good size.

I also saw these same beds priced much higher elsewhere so I feel like these are a good value.

I’ve had this bed since 2020, and it has held up incredibly well. It goes with us when we travel and stay with friends/family, so it’s seen a lot of action over the years! Whenever we visit my parent’s, their dogs steal my dogs bed whenever they can lol, they all love this bed.

I have a 50lb dog, and the smaller choice is still big enough for him to sprawl out on. Highly recommend this dog bed, we might actually buy another one to stay in the house and keep his original in the car.

We have medium sized dog. We bought the extra large because the cat likes to sleep with him sometimes. Second day the entire middle is completely to the floor with only 6″ around the sides with filling.

So much for the “A removable, channeled, poly-fil core safeguards constant end to end comfort and will not “lump or bunch” from use; keeping it “fluffy!” advertising description. Definitely not worth the extra money we spent thinking we were getting better quality.

However, the fabric seems to be quality and less likely to be torn by toenails so we are giving it 2 stars for that.

We live in south Florida, where “hot” is the buzz word – and we have a brick deck around the pool. This bed is now the “go to” place for my husky to lie down when she’s done baking in the sun. She’ll often choose it over the ventilated elevated beds even! The material is cool to the touch so it doesn’t seem to gather body heat like a lot of padded dog beds, and it’s easy to clean, too; just bounce it on edge and everything falls off.

I’m buying another!.

the bed arrived in perfect condition. My dog literally was anxious to get on it. It is nice and plush – seems to have good support and is much thicker than our previous one. I like how its water resistant and the outer covering is washable.

This is the 3rd and 4th bed like this that I have purchased for my chocolate lab. When she was just a small puppy, we searched for the bed she would like the best. We had beds of different shapes in different parts of the house, but this shape is the one she liked best.

She loves to curl up inside and bury her head into the roll, and she also likes putting her head, and sometimes whole body, over the roll. She’s a power chewer, but she’s not chewed this one. She has chewed the others.

The 2 smaller sized beds needed to be washed completely, but I like that this jumbo size has a zip-off cover that washes, and I don’t have to put the whole bed into the washer. The beds themselves washed up well, and so does the zip-off cover.

She now has one in my living room and one in my bedroom. She can fully stretch out in this bed, and still curl up against the edge to feel cozy. Love, love, love this bed.

We have bought these each time our Deer Hound grows out of his crate. Fully reversible and very smart. Cold wash them only though. Well worth the money.

This is so perfect for my baby. It’s big and comfy. It has a leather handle and a removable pillow. I love that the best it makes for convenient cleaning. It’s the perfect size so it can moved to any part of the home.

My dog likes smaller things and corners. This bed was the PERFECT size for him to curl up in a ball like he does. He is a medium English shepherd. If your medium dog does not like small places it may not be for them.

Maybe just a smaller dog size then. Comes with a little pillow insert as well.

My furbaby absolutely loves her Slumber series Bolster bed. It is the perfect size for her. I love how padded it is. This adds extra comfort for my furbaby. There is no assembly required and it is easy to clean.

I love the bolsters because it keeps her from rolling out of it.

Our two yorkies love this platform bed! They learned how to “go place” and when we need them to stay put them go on the elevated dog bed. They love to nap on it too! Very sturdy and they cannot chew through it so very durable for puppies and thier chewing habits.

This is extremely well built dog bed. I bought two for my Dobermans and they love them. I have one dog who chews anything and she has not even tried to chew this bed. There are no edges of the fabric as it is all inside the rails.

You can put a nice pad on top or just packing blankets. Also, this bed can be taken outside and hosed off if you get that doggy smell. I would recommend this to anyone who wants their dogs to have a nice place to lay.

My 11 year dog loves this as she has some older dog joints and this is comfortable for her. She has always had a bed but this is the best.

Tricky getting it put together. Aside from that, it’s a good bed for our 60 lb. PB/Terrier. I have her floor cushion on top for extra padding. Keeps her off the cold floor.

Ever since this bed arrived at our house my dog has been in it. Anytime anyone asks where he is, the answer is always – he’s in his Cuddle Cube! I love the square shape of this bed and how thick and fluffy it is, yet still firm enough to provide adequate support.

It appears to be holding up very well for the short period of time that we have had it. My dog likes to race across the room and jump on the bed like it was a trampoline. He also likes to turn upside-down with his legs sticking up in the air and wiggle all around.

I would buy this dog bed 10 times over because it was such a big hit with my dog.

Luci and Catcher’s owner passed away. (my mom) I live in a two bedroom apartment. I had yet to find a dog bed that wasn’t ugly and didn’t take up too much space and that they would actually use. I ordered these after reading the reviews and took a chance on them.

When they arrived in giant boxes I was nervous. As soon as I opened one one dog jumped on it immediately. Plastic and all covering it. The dogs LOVE these beds, they both can fit on one however they much prefer one to themselves.

It’s like a hug for them. Or a bean bag chair for humans. They are easily moved from room to room. On days I work from home i often take a break with them on the beds. So if you’re nervous about it, don’t be.

This was a purchase for a friend’s dog. He is a rescue from Many Years ago but had been Burned some, Shot in leg AND Cut up along his face. He’s been very happy now for many years but Never likes to lay on direct floor.

He’s at least 3 1/2 feet tall standing on all 4’s, and about 80LBS. HIS bed was wearing out and he was curled up in the bed of his ‘Brother’ dog a Third of his size. When his New Cuddle Bed came in, he Immediately climbed on.

You could actually See the Relief AS WELL as his Big Goofy Grin over it. He LOVES it!! Doesn’t ‘Sink’ his heavy weight to the floor either. Good Product!!.

To show you how large this bed is, behold our 9-year-old 220LB GREAT DANE! He still has room to spare! He loves the bed and it supports his hips really well. We bought both the bolster and rectangle orthopedic beds.

The beds are very well made & much easier to change than his older beds. My only regret is the cover. The only color that wouldn’t totally clash with our furniture was the grey and it is made of velvet, so his hair sticks to it.

Also you can see drool spots when they dry. One the bright side, it is easy to clean and we are happy with the purchases.

The bed arrived with a cover on it that looked like a tough material. We also received a separate cover that went over the existing cover. Our boys like to scratch around before they lay down; this material will stand the test of time.

Our only complaint would be the name stitching. It turned out nice but is located on the opposite side of how they have it pictured on the website. For our location of the bed, this puts the stitching against the wall.

It would be nice if they gave you the option to pick the location—something like either side or the bolster.

Wonderful. Our Pyredoodle is is only 8 months old but we were concerned about alleviating future joint problems so invested in the orthopedic bed for her. She is also still in the destructive stages so a tough bed was important.

She loves this bed, it’s big enough to stretch out and she sleeps longer. She has not even attempted to chew on this bed. Our other dog likes to lay on it too. We have it in a xxl crate and it fits perfectly.

I love L. L. Beans dog beds. I’m embarrased to say how many we own. We have multiple sizes- and shapes, to include the round bed and the rectangle denim. And how could we NOT buy the one with the fleece on one side for winter? We had a gifted carpenter make a raised wooden platform bed that would hold two of the medium sized dog beds, one on top of the other, so our dog would be warm at our uninsulated camp in Maine.

Despite a wood stove, the floor would still tend to be cold. I would encourage Beans to market a raise bed! This particular canvas denim cover is very water repellent, especially when relatively new and coupled with the Therapeutic Foam bed insert.

The colors are what you see on your computer. They wash well and hold up for years. They have continued to use a heavy duty zipper and kept the original quality of the beds and covers. Hallelujah! I don’t mind paying more as prices rise to produce a product, just please don’t mess with the quality in order to keep costs down.

These beds are made to last!.

I purchased the Premium Fleece Dog Bed Set, Medium, Rectangular as well as the Replacement Cover in Denim. I have a 12 lb. Chihuahua/Fox Terrier that is about the size of an average Jack Russell or Beagle and she loves, loves, loves her bed.

The padding is well made and has a little bit of a groove all around with a little bit of a bump in the center. So it is not completely flat, which I have learned from observing our furry pet that it serves a purpose.

She likes to rest within the groove for security. On other days she likes to rest her head and chest on the bump in the center which elevates her a little bit. Our dog used have a cheap bed that became too soft and did not hold up well once it got old.

Especially when she laid against the side walls. It had a tendency to flatten out. Plus, it had a plush-life fabric that was too warm in the summertime, and she would hang partially off the bed onto the hardwood floor which is cooler.

So, comfort, temperature, structure, and durability were factors taken into consideration in searching for a new bed. I had read reviews about the padding falling apart in the washer or tearing from digging.

I have not had to wash the pad because I have covered the bed and denim cover with a crib-size bed pad and a fitted bedsheet for added protection; and because our pooch has always enjoyed the feel and texture of a bedsheet.

She just got used to looking for cooling spots on her beds after we tried keeping her cool on other retailer beds that had either foam or cheap fill which caused her become too warm. But she does love her Sherpa adult throw.

Not familiar with L. L. Bean pet products, I decided to purchase the bed set that came with the fleece cover and also ordered the replacement cover in denim which is a soft denim. It is not stiff or rough as in jean denim.

I was concerned the fleece cover might be too warm, and I wanted to have the option to change from a warmer cover to a cooler one being that it was summertime when my order arrived, so that was the reason in my purchasing the denim replacement cover as well.

When my order arrived, I placed the denim cover on the pad and it has held up really well. It doesn’t show dirt and our pooch likes it. I was afraid it would rip when she sniffed the bed and began digging but that has not been the case.

So it has stood pretty well to that. I have not replaced the denim cover with the fleece cover yet, but weather is starting to change and getting cooler. I will probably change from the denim liner to the Sherpa liner soon.

I also want to add that I ordered a medium size bed which is a little bigger than what is recommended for a dog her weight/size because she likes to spread out. That was also one reason why I chose a bed that is not enclosed or has side walls.

If it’s any help to anyone reading this review, the medium bed is about four inches short the length of a baby crib mattress. It’s the best bed I have bought. I haven’t seen anything else at other stores that meet the same quality of L.

L. Bean products, and I highly recommend this bed.

There’s not much I can do for my 11-year-old, 100-lb black Lab mix; arthritis can’t be cured, and eventually the pain meds won’t keep him going. I’m not made of money, either, but I knew that once he’s gone, my only regrets will be the things I didn’t do.

This is the most comfortable dog bed I’ve had in 50 years of loving dogs. I had Foster & Smith dogs beds that lasted for 20 years; these are even more comfortable (I laid down in them myself, and I would sleep on one if they made them in human sixes!) I ended up getting 2 extra large beds so he could have one in each of his favorite places, then another large size one for my younger dog, but the large is also just big enough for the big guy and he sleeps on that one, too.

It breaks my heart to know he won’t be with me much longer, but I know these beds will go on to comfort other dogs, because they are so well made. Like I said — I’m not rich, just a retired mailman.
