20 Best Yarn For Coasters (2022 Updated)

This yarn is great to make a blanket with because it’s so soft! I love how much yarn it is and the thickness of it. The blanket I’m still currently making from this kind of yarn is for a queen size blanket, so I have had to buy several and am still working on it.

I’m glad I was able to buy several of these from Walmart when they were on sale. Too bad Walmart didn’t continue ordering more of these for in store because I decided to purchase more from online somewhere else once thay ran out.

This blanket is by far my favorite blanket since it’s so soft and warm. Even though it’s warm, I still like that you can feel some air through it to where you don’t feel overheated. Since the blanket I made is for a queen size bed, the blanket is somewhat heavy kind if like the weighted blankets.

The “LION BRAND I WANNA MAKE A BLANKIE YARNS” are absolutely PERFECT ! They’re perfectly packaged; full instructions are provided; and the YARN itself is super wonderful to work with ! When completed, the “BLANKIES” are approx.

48″ x 48″. I ABSOLUTELY RECOMMEND THE ” I WANNA MAKE A BLANKIE” YARNS !.

I love this yarn for making slippers. One 3. 5 oz skein of the solid colors makes a pair of ladies size small, medium or large. The small size even has enough left over to make contrasting color cuffs for the next pair! I do not buy the 10.

5 oz skeins because I found the weight of the yarn to be incorrect–too thin–on several of the large skeins I bought last year. It did not work with my slipper pattern though the label claimed to be exactly the same as the smaller skeins and recommended the same needle size.

and claimed the same gauge. Unfortunately I had ripped the labels off the several skeins I bought at the same time and tossed them in the trash and stowed the yarn in my big canvas bag that says “Keep Knitting” that is part of my living room decor, so wasn’t able to return the yarn! Will never repeat that mistake!.

I really like this yarn. It is high quality ( i. e. , it does not split) which means your work goes faster and looks more professional. Because the yarn is so good to work with, things get knitted or crocheted almost by themselves.

(Just kidding, but the truth is that Bernat Softee Chunky is very easy to work with) and the choice of colors is wonderful. I made the Highline Crochet Scarf (Michaels free pattern) with using the Bernat Softee Chunky yarn in Linen and True Grey.

The scarf came out beautifully and so easy to do! I gave it to my daughter for Christmas and she was delighted with the scarf.

Very durable yarn and easy to work with. The yarn did not have any ends tied together or frayed parts. The only downside to this yarn is how hard it is. softee is not an appropriate name. But as an afghan it will be very durable and warm.

I ordered more of it already for another project. 1 complaint. you do not have enough of the colors. Had to order some from amazon. rather buy from you.

I have purchased Bernat Blanket Big Ball Yarn for three afghans. The first one I purchased was from a large online retailer. Having never worked with this yarn before I wondered why some parts were twisted and flat and others were full and round.

I continued crocheting & quickly realized this Afghan could not be a Christmas present. It was so fragile I was afraid it disintegrate in the washer. It’s ended up as an extra afghan for my husband. I thought perhaps the big online retailer does not receive quality yarn so I ordered Vintage White and Dark Teal from Joann’s for the two remaining Christmas afghans.

I washed the vintage white and blocked it. Although it looked beautiful before washing, it was a curly mess when it dried, so I sprayed it with water and rebooked it. This morning there was no change in the result and I ended throwing it in the garbage.

I now have the third afghan, a Dark Teal one, now blocking. So far, it looks good. This will be my last afghan using this brand. I have crocheted over 30 years and never encountered this issue. Now it’s four days before we celebrate an early Christmas and I don”t know what to do.

I am devastated.

Overall, I love this yarn, but I ordered a lot online because of the sale they just had. Majority of the colors are a lot darker when you get them than they show up in the photo online. So, I highly recommend buying these in store so you can see what colors you will be getting.

Some also didn’t show all the colors in the variations in the skein. So, I got it thinking it was all light yarn, and here is this super dark blue out of nowhere. So, I ended up taking some back to the store to exchange for better colors lol.

Also, some colors seemed to be having some issues in the factory right now with being cut and tied in multiple areas. I sent an email to customer service about this, and they were great about it. Overall, the yarn is very soft and nice to work with.

It is just a yarn that I would not recommend buying online.

This is my first time making a blanket & first time using the BERNAT Blanket. I used 7 skeins to finish a Full-Queen size blanket. The yarn is soft & the color of all my 7 skeins is consistent & pretty.

However, I was VERY disappointed about the quality of the yarn. 1) Those 7 balls I used were not one big ball of continuous yarn; there were knots tied together to create a full ball. I counted & noted that I had total 13 knots on those 7 balls.

(I just don’t believe that there were 4 knots on my 2nd ball. ) I was very frustrated with those knots & almost giving up making the blanket. 2) The thickness of the yarn is inconsistent. Not all are round & chunky, some are flat and thin.

That will be perfect if the above two issues can be resolved.

Joann had this yarn for about 50 cents more. Since stores are temporarily closed, I wrote and asked if my military discount could be applied. Waited a week for a reply and then found that DB had the same yarn for 50 cents less than Joann.

This ended up being near equal to my military discount. Another great thing about DB is that if they do not have a color in stock they don’t CANCEL those products (so you lose the sale price and have to reorder).

The simply let you know it’s back ordered and ship when it becomes available. You can choose to cancel if you d on’t want to wait. Joan contacted me 3-4 weeks later (after the back ordered colors had arrived) and told me that they would not accept my military discount as it is applied when purchasing in store.

From now on I check DB for my yarn stash first!.

The yarn I received says Full Moon 607 but it is most definitely green shades and not the beautiful blue shown in the photo. The color variation with the stripes is much more subtle than what is shown.

It’s also a bit fuzzy and I wonder if I would start working with it how much fuzzier it will get. I will probably return it as I already ordered green yarn which I like better than this and I really wanted the blue that was shown in the photo.

I recently crocheted a short-sleeved summer sweater using Ferris Wheel in Imaginary Garden. The yarn is a pleasure to work with, no nasty splitting, and the color changes are both subtle and beautiful.

I get so Many compliments. An excellent yarn to make a garment that’s a conversation starter.

I’m currently making a big hand-crocheted blanket. This is the first time I’ve been working with this yarn, and I have a few observations. First, I’ve found two very different thicknesses of yarn. A few of my skeins are really thick and pretty easy to use, while the other skeins are thinner and harder to use.

Since I’m hand weaving, the thicker yarn holds it’s shape better and doesn’t unravel itself in my stitches, while the thinner yarn tends to pull away from itself. Very frustrating but easily salvageable.

I find that my stitches aren’t very straight because the yarn is so soft, the weight of the rest of the blanket tends to pull at the row I’m currently working on. The yarn is incredibly soft and the blanket will be warm and comfortable, but for a beginner, don’t expect perfection or speed while using it.

If I were using tools I’m sure it would be easier. The only other thing is that knots tend to pull apart when I get to weave them into the blanket. It’s pretty frustrating, so I’ve started not trimming the extra yarn from my knots until the very end, when I can go back and trim them all.

My hope is that if any knots do come apart, there will be extra yarn to re-tie. In conclusion, the yarn is very soft and honestly so amazing, but you need to have patience and think outside the box a little bit to make sure nothing starts to unravel.

Have a vacuum for the extra fluff that tends to fly everywhere and go for the thicker yarn!.

I bought this yarn at the store because it was a gorgeous color and soooo soft. I did not see reviews until I got home and looked it up to buy more. The yarn was ok to work with and is amazingly soft and snuggly.

I didn’t have too many problems with it shedding while making the blanket, some but nothing crazy. But that blanket hangs out on my microfiber couch and constantly sheds (ever time you change colors there are more ends that get tucked in and eventually shed).

It sticks to the microfiber and it annoying to constantly remove. If I was going to make a gift I would never inflict the shedding on someone else. If I was going to make a new project I would pass by this yarn in the future.

There are so many yarn options out there I don’t think this one is worth it.

This is the most delicious yarn I’ve worked with in awhile. The feel is plush, almost velvety, and the strands were consistent thickness, with no patched-together pieces. I have a friend whose daughter is on the autism spectrum, and I made her a small blanket she can use to comfort herself.

I enjoyed working with Chenille Home so much, I re-ordered it in bulk. There was a small amount of shedding, but not enough to concern me. Highly recommend.

I wanted a chenille that wasn’t super bulky for a stuffed toy. I am super happy with the toy that resulted (hence 3 stars). Actually knitting with it was enjoyable, and the fabric is soft and velvety, but it was pretty unforgiving of mistakes, and was pretty much unable to sew with.

When I tried to frog my project to correct a mistake, or tried to use it for seaming, the fibers came out of the thread easily and I was left with bald thread and fuzz everywhere. I had to just start over and either make no mistakes, or live with them.

Lovely choice of colours and great for making smaller items which is what I wanted it for. Would be great if the brand did bigger balls aswell for bigger projects. Dk chenille is so much easier to work with making amigurumi rather than using thick blanket yarn.

I just wish that WEBS was in better stock of this yarn’s selection of colors. It’s very soft and works up nicely. I wasn’t able to get all that I wanted so I’m only able to make the little amigurumi that I have with the colors and quantity on hand.

Regarding this yarn. i have a few words for Micheal. i thouhgt we were friends! DUDE! &@%#:@!. My one complaint!!!why no one contacted me! When this went on SAAAAALE. I did not get to buy the other colors when they had clearance prices!- when it was super, super cheaper on sale ! Im sobbing here!.

this Yarn is absolutely ,Absolutely chic and fabulous once youve set the FIBERS solid! it does have a very luxury Lush look to it when you first start to work with it. and after reading quite a few reviews people were complaining about its peeling.

I understand what they’re talkin about yes it will shed and peel,but I did research before I purchased it. i did lots of lots of research before I purchase it, and realized there were one or two comments that did mention [washing – More so SOAKING IT IN WATER] ITS IN ORDER TO LESSEN THE SHEDDING – wet the yarn first before using it in order to seal the fibers of the yarn which helps to stabilize it more appropriately and before using it before creating your project.

I find that to be accurate I’ve taken pieces of sample of the yard before using it in whole ,and found when I washed one with detergent a [woolite – soft detergent]] something that’s meant for lighter, more delicate fabrics, and then I also put the other piece to just water and I dried it with the dryer,and I let the other one in Air-dry; either way when it comes down to it you’re trying to seal the fibers of the yarn in order for it not to shed so aggressively.

so keep in mind it is going to shed. its yarn! Yarn sheds!. but not so aggressively. And not so much of it. you want to seal in the fibers by wetting it – so that’s why probably SOAKING ( NOT ACTUAL WASH SET YET) it before you work on something ( but not in the normal fashion of washing like you would normally do clothing maybe let it sit in some sort of water solution and then lightly Ring it out and let it air-dry and then work on your project or however you want it , if you don’t want it to get messed up from the shedding.

so it may be best that you work on it after you wash it to secure that it has a more unified (and not UNTAMED )look that you want Like i worked on one chunky roll and found the shed was on! But its still looked sweet! – I’ll soak it later! And then eventually wash it on a light wash but for the rest of the yarn I’m going to soak before using in order to get the best use of what I have left.

Micheals needs to have another blow up sale! And to inform me so i can jump in on that one!=).

I read many reviews about this yarn before purchasing. I was concerned about the shed factor and brittleness. I bought the pink/grey twist color and I didn’t find it to shed excessively or be fragile.

I don’t know f it’s because all my skeins came in plastic or the fact the it was two colors that came twisted together. I didn’t want to risk it based on other reviews so I undid each skein and “felted” it by tying it up like a donut and running it through the rinse & spin cycle then hanging it to dry.

My machine does not have an agitator so that may have helped with my success with this. I finger knit a blanket out of it and it is FABULOUS. Chunky Luxe is the exact right name for the end result. I don’t find it to shed any crazy amount and it’s a beautiful and cozy end product.

COGA certified crochet/knitting instructor. I make gifts and for sale to the public. This new thick yarnis a new item to me. Purchased a number of skeins. Gt home and found I needed a much larger crochet hook than I need.

Another trip to Michaels, got size 50 crochet hook, bought more yarn which was on clearance. Now crocheting baskets for Christmas gifts, Important to use correct size hooks to achieve desired results.

Having fun making baskets as they are quick to make products.

I loved just about everything with this yarn. The colors were wonderful and it is a very easy yarn to work with. It does not have any stretch to it, so if you need stretch in your work, this would not be the right yarn to use.

I also found that because it has more defined structure than typical yarn, it also does not make the best yarn for certain stitch patterns. The Chinese Wave pattern in this yarn did not give me the clearly defined rows and stitch gaps that I was looking for.

It was beautiful even still, but just not what I wanted. So if you’re aiming for something very specific in a pattern you have already seen in another kind of yarn, best try some test runs on this yarn before investing in the full skein supply.

It is beautiful and has a lot to offer for the right pattern. This is a zero pilling and zero fuzz type of yarn too, so if that is important, you’ll have no problems here with either of those!.

Excellent yarn, easy to work with, glides through hands; but not too much slip. Has a cool touch. Love that it’s recycled cotton with enough nylon for added strength. So far have made a couple of bags and some med.

weight spring/fall brimmed hat. Flexible yet holds it’s shape well. (Can get even more structure by going down a hook size or two. ) I think this yarn would also be great for area rugs, baskets and open-weave market bags.

Well worth the price and even better when on sale or with a coupon! I hope JoAnn will keep it in stock (my store clearanced it out, as a summer item only) and Bernat continues to make this yarn, with more colors.

please!!! I have all except for black, only b/c it’s too much of a dog hair magnet for my household! But would make a great trim or a nice bag, with the Clay as an accent or vice versa. Even some of the “funky” looking color combos work up to be very attractive and eye-catching! Have rec’d lots of oooh’s & aaah’s!.

I have not had one issue with this yarn! Except to find what to make with it! I have made blankets, scarves and a pillow case with this and I need more projects! It doesn’t fall apart or fray unless the outside cover of the tubing is damaged.

It’s easy to cut the damage away and tie right back to itself though. Knots hold well that I have made. I didn’t come across many manufacture knots, which is something a lot of fellow crocheters worry about.

They do happen in all yarn, but I have not found many at all. I love the feeling of this yarn after it has gone through the wash and dry! It’s so soft and very warm!.

I’ve made at least six scarves using this yarn and I love it. It’s much softer (like, so, so soft! basically like a warm, comfy little cloud) than Paton’s roving wool yarn, and bulkier too. Like other reviewers said, if you make a mistake and undo some of your piece, it tends to get a little frayed, but I’ve learned to cope with it.

If you’re gentle, the yarn won’t fray at all while undoing a mistake. I’ve not experienced anything like that “falling apart” issues some reviewers mentioned. This yarn won’t pull apart for me without some serious effort! The colors do seem to be a little off online, but not by too much.

Be aware that the plum is in fact a plum color, not purple. The raspberry is a little more magenta in person. The teal is much, much more vibrant in person (really more of a bright turquoise). Overall, however, I’m extremely happy with this yarn.

I will be buying it as long as it is available, and it has quickly become my favorite yarn to work with for my crocheting projects.

This is a wonderful yarn for most projects. I saw someone was not happy it wouldn’t felt. Please look at the yarns content if you want to felt it. This yarn, though it is a roving only has 20% wool. If you want to felt a project the yarn or roving yarn must be at least 80% wool or other animal fur.

Even some animal fur will not felt. And 100 percent is better. Even at 80% it will not felt as much. Man made products do not felt. It can be really disappointing when you make something but it doesn’t felt like you wanted.

I made a long sleeved sweater for my daughter who is a secretary in a school. She needed a warm sweater as it is cold where she sits in the school. She loved the sweater, the color and the weight. I also made her a matching beret which she liked very much.

The only complaint I have with the yarn itself is that when you use it to sew seams, the yarn unravels and separates which caused me to throw away several lengths as the yarn was then not the true thickness it should be.

Othewise it washed nicely and is very soft as well as very warm. I don’t have a picture to show you as my daughter was here just as I finished wrapping it up ( a Birthday present) and I gave it to her then as she lives in VT and would be returning home the next day.

Omg the softest thing ever!!! The colour is beautiful and so easy to work with!!! Love the feel when making a blanket or making packsacks!! The colours they use is amazing and lasts a long time!! The price is right when u find it in Walmart!!! I recommend if you are crocheting or knitting!!! Must buy!!!.

Perfect color. Lime is bright green. Thought I’d share as I had no idea if it was more muted like the stock photos. My little guy is going to love this.

I like everting about this yarn except the pink hue in the red. Race car red doesnt have any pink to it. I was hoping for more of a holiday red.
