20 Best Yarn For Scarf (2022 Updated)

I love the subtle soft color transition of this yarn and I appreciate the bit of wool blend and the relatively large yardage skeins. I would, however, like to make an important suggestion to anyone making the featured Boyfriend Sweater or any other garment related project.

The knitter should try to start the corresponding (right and left front, sleeves, etc) at, or as close to, the same color point in the transition as possible. So that the sweater looks balanced. With the large yardage skeins this should easily be possible.

I’ve made several projects out of many skeins of shawl in a ball. I had decent results with my lace tablecloth (although the color changes give it a bullseye appearance that i detest) and a maple leaf shawl I made, though again, the color variations are distracting.

But my major project was a shawl for myself. I couldn’t find a color I liked so I decided to just go with something close and dye it. I finished my work, and washed it, and dyed the ends. The yarn became fuzzy, like a lousy fleece out of the dryer, the dye didn’t take very well, and I’m not new.

I am just disgusted. I hate it. Hours upon hours of work wasted. I’m going back to patons lace yarn.

I don’t know how anyone could be disappointed in this yarn. I made a gorgeous “hippie” coat with the prism colorway! I have made a tunic and a matching vest as well. This yarn is great for all projects and using it just for shawls because of the name is under valuing this yarns capabilities.

Try it for other things too. I use it as a weight catagory 3 as it is thinner than what I think of as a 4. I love this yarn, it’s really great and has a nice drape to it when the project is completed.

This yarn is very soft and fuzzy and beautiful, but be warned, it is NOT worsted weight! You’d only use size 8 needles if you wanted to make something lacy, which is perfect for this kind of yarn (and what it’s meant for), but on its own it’s more like DK or fingering weight! It works up very pretty though, either in a lace stitch or tighter stitch.

I haven’t washed it yet though and it seems like it might become a matted mess because of the fuzz.

It would have been better if the yarn was in its normal shape. It is very hard to work when it is round, as it keeps turning. It takes me about 3/4 of an hour to unroll it. And so far, I had 4 ball with either knots, color issue and other defect.

I am making a shawl, and everything has to be perfect.

The product is exacty what I ordered, however, I didn’t realize that it was different than the one I was looking for. I guess the photo wasn’t large enough for my old eyes. No problem though, as I can still use it.

I got very lucky on this lot… Great yarn at unbelievable price! All yarns have strong colors and great stitching! Thank you again!!

If you’re a crocheter, knitter or a weaver I’m sure you LOVE yarn like I do. Red Heart doesn’t miss a beat with this yarn. The colors are wonderful alone, but when mixed with another It’s a Wrap color – the color combination is spectacular.

Creativity is endless with this yarn.

I really like the feel of this yarn. It has a nice soft feel to it and it knits up wonderfully. I would love to use it again. Maybe make a sweater out of it. My only real complaint about it is the skein size.

If I could get it in bigger skeins I would totally make a sweater from it. However since it only comes in the small skeins of 97 yrds, I find it too costly to buy enough for a sweater.

I bought three of the kits and was going to make these for friends/family BUT. I can’t figure out the stitch pattern. The translation is poor. I’ve even tried google translate and that doesn’t work. What is the stripe stitch? Is it the garter stripe stitch?.

but the picture of the shawl doesn’t look like that pattern (had to go to the internet to find that pattern). Do I just knit and increase as stated and ignore that “stripe st” instruction and just change yarn when I run out? If someone could post what they did to make the one in the picture, I would forever be grateful!!.

I was very disappointed by this purchase. The colors were not what I would consider an ombré, just a group of disparate blues. The instructios were difficult to follow, perhaps the translation to English was the problem.

But most disappointing of all was the response I received from WEBS. It basically said we just sell the kit, we don’t know anything about it and can’t help you with the pattern. So, it’s back to my local yarn shop with a lesson learned.

I did keep the yarn and will use it for weaving.

I really hope that Lion Brand continues to make yarns that combine natural fibers that breathe with synthetics that add loft and other properties! I love the 24/7 Cotton, Cotton Ease, and this yarn for the cotton content.

The colors reside in the acrylic, with the core consisting of a natural slub cotton. The palette is so rich, warm and painterly that I love all of them. I wish that there were more semisolid options in red, blue etc but I’m hoping that new colors will be coming.

I liked working with this yarn, used a couple different hooks, one of which was suggested and a smaller hook, still looked fantastic. Although there were a few imperfections; felted and a couple of knots along the strand, it did allow for some extra texture, yet at this price point I wasn’t expecting that.

Overall I liked it, makes a really nice lacy triangle shaped crocheted scarf.

Beautiful colors and great for lightweight shawls in warmer weather. My only issue with the yarn is the unevenness of the thickness, it seems to be a problem in the whole line as I have had multiple skeins with the same thing.

Some points have a decent width and at other points it is down to basically string. Still a good yarn overall but something to watch out for when choosing which pattern you want to use.

Very soft, not scratchy even with the metallic thread. Nice drape even with a using a smaller hook and tighter stitches. Didn’t have any trouble with tangling, just worked from the outside of the ball instead of center pull.

Yarn is delicate though, definitely use extra care with hand washing & lay flat to dry.

I love the texture of the yarn and the colors. However, one must really check the gauge of your knitting, otherwise, you won’t have enough yarn to finish the shawl in a ball. I don’t like the fact that, even though the individual balls are allegedly the same dye lot color, they are not wound the same way – so you might end up with differing amounts of each color (and in different order) in each ball.

Not good for any project requiring more than one ball.

This is the 4th Shawl in a Ball purchase I have made over the years. Because the yarn is rather thin, it makes a perfect shawl of the Southern California weather. It’s not too warm for our weather. I have sold 3 of the shawls that I have made.

The slight glitter in the yarn seems to attract people.

I bought 3 skeins of San Francisco Tweed to make a oversized cowl for a friend. I thought 3 would be plenty, but there just isn’t as much there as you’d think there is. Buy one more than you think you’ll need.

I was not expecting the tan flecks to shed as much as they did, but I haven’t worked with any other flecked yarns to compare it to. It starts looking ratty really fast though. By the time, I bound-off it was already starting to get a little matted.

I also bought two skeins of a solid colorway (Sky Paul Sky, discontinued) and it gets ratty too, but without the flecks, it almost looks worse?? The flecks help it pass off as “rustic”. San Francisco Tweed has a nice dark academia-y look to it.

I had problems with the SFT splitting, but not the SPS. But I was knitting the SFT in herringbone stitch which is very tight. * I knit this with bamboo size US10. 5 for ribbing, US13, and US15 for herringbone stitch (15 was nowhere near large enough).

tdlr; it starts looking worn out quickly, but it’s reliable and the colorways are nice.

Bought this because the colors were perfect for my project (and they are beautiful). However, I’ve made the same afghan many times with the same weight of yarn, and have never had a problem until using this.

I was using 3 skeins at a time and one would ran out WAY before the others. Not even close. I was running through yarn much too quickly I measured 2 skeins. All 22 skeins I purchased said 81 yards. The 2 I measured were 66 and 59.

I ran out of yard about 3/4 through my project. Also, the yard was knotted and the fibers catch each other so it was a pain to work with. Won’t buy this yard again.

I love how soft and chunky this yarn is. I also love that it comes in so many color options and doesn’t contain wool, as even the smallest percentage of wool irritates my skin and makes any garments made from it uncomfortable to the point of being unwearable.

So I love the wide array of color options in this wool free yarn, as being unable to use or wear wool can severely limit my yarn options. But with that being said, the quality could definitely be better.

As soft and luxurious as it feels, this yarn splits SUPER easily. I’ve had this same issue with other Lion Brand yarns lately, so there’s obviously something going on with their quality control.

Da die Quadrate alle gleich groß waren und die gleiche Maschenprobe haben, habe ich wohl gleichmäßig gearbeitet. Trotzdem ist bei einem Quadrat grad mal eine Runde schwarz geworden, während bei einem anderen Quadrat mind.

4 oder 5 schwarze Runden den Abschluss bilden. Für die Decke war das okay, bei anderen Projekten ist das vielleicht störend. Ob das Problem nur unterschiedliche Farben betrifft oder auch unterschiedliche Knäuel der gleichen Farbe inkonsistent sind, kann ich nicht beurteilen.

Ich hab das Garn im Angebot gekauft, dafür war der Preis sehr gut, den regulären Preis finde ich etwas zu hoch für die gelieferte Qualität.

I’m a big fan of both Orvis and Barbour. I bought this scarf in the ‘Blue/Natural’ color combination, as it’s a signature match with many of the Barbour liners. This is a very nice scarf, but in fairness to all (especially those attracted to the word ‘cashmere’ in the description) please recognize that “Merino/Cashmere” here means 90% Merino, and only 10% Cashmere (which is just enough cashmere to give it a “generally soft” hand) -Not exceptional quality, but certainly not bad either.

This is critical information for those trying to justify the price, or quality, either way. For me, I’m most impressed here with the signature Barbour plaid in these particular colors. For Merino, it’s “fairly soft” not the best I’ve felt, but no major complaint.

This scarf has one side which is softer than the other. For ‘mostly Merino’ it is a tad pricey, and I feel that you’re paying for mostly the ‘Barbour’ brand name here, which is fine. It is a good looking scarf, but for Cashmere fans, who own scarves in 100% cashmere (often even pricier) it’s nowhere near as soft as pure cashmere.

For me, I’ll use this Barbour signature plaid for casual everyday use, and save my Burberry signature plaid for either nicer occasions, or simply when I want a much softer feel. – I recommend this a very good looking scarf, but please know the content balance of Merino VS Cashmere.

I got this scarf to be ready for winter season however have found it to be a lot more universal in my usage. It isn’t the fluffiest of scarves however it is absolutely gorgeous. I got the hint of green/grey one that looks good with my jean jacket and raincoat.

I use it a lot more than I thought I would because it looks great. Just not the hottest of materials. Enjoy!.

I bought this scarf to go with a Lodge flannel plaid ladies shirt that I love! The scarf is soft and doesn’t make my neck itch. It is the perfect width and length. I love the fringe. It gives it an up-to-date look.

It is a keeper and by the way, it coordinates with the green Betty gilet I purchased. Altogether it is quite an impressive but casual look.

I am very impressed with this wool. It looks and feels amazing. I have knitted a jumper and scarf with the sunset version so I bought this one too. I have had so many complimentary remarks on how lovely the colours are.

Overall very impressed and will definitely buy more.

Mesmerising colour change yarn that never repeats exactly giving a lovely finished garment. Tip, if there is a colour change that you dont like simply cut and rejoin yarn to suit. This yarn has a bright baby peach strand which repeats occasionally, I thought it was out of sinc with the other colours, so removed it.
