20 Best Yarn For Scarves (2022 Updated)

Bought a large order for a big project and 20% of my order had knots where Lion Brand had tied two strands to make a complete skein. They didn’t even try to match up the color so that color graduation was consistent, so your project ends up with an abrupt change in color instead of the graduation from one shade to the next.

This is unacceptable quality for a yarn whose selling point is the color graduation. Shame on Lion Brand for taking short cuts over providing a good product to keep their customers happy and coming back.

So disappointed because I fell in love with this yarn when I first saw it, but I probably won’t buy it again.

I’ve used this yarn several times in a few colors because I find it so interesting when it works up. Every skein has places where it is thicker and thinner which is very frustrating but in about half the skeins I have used that is the only problem and one which I am willing to overlook.

However, in the other half of the skeins I’ve used there have been breaks and knots and places where the yarn is so frayed as to look like the fiber had never been spun into yarn at all. It is also very difficult to undo work when I realize I have made a mistake because the yarn catches on itself somehow, never ceasing to amaze me with how vexing it can be.

I only keep buying it because the payoff is so wonderful – projects worked from this yarn are so soft and warm and interesting to look at. I made a super scarf from this yarn in black/ turquoise that wearing made me forget how annoying it had been to make (which, I suppose, is why I purchased it again.

And again. ) I give three stars because of the inconsistency between skeins, even of the same color. Some skeins I would rate at less than a star, but some deserve at least 4. I responded that I would in recommend this product and it is true – I would recommend Scarfie yarn, but only to those with the most patience, and to those who believe that the soft and warm ends justify the frayed, knotted means.

I’ve purchased this yarn several times in several different colors. It’s definitely one of my all-time favorite yarns. It is so easy to work with. The hook just glides smoothly through it without splitting or snagging and it is so soft to the touch.

Not too thick and not too thin, just perfect for garments. Even though it’s called scarfie I have made all kinds of different things, not just scarves. I’ll be using this yarn as long as they continue to make it.

The colors offered make this a year-round good choice. There are colors for spring, colors for winter and everything in between. Definitely a good quality product reasonably priced.

I love this yarn. I purchased 2 balls of what I thought was teal and actually ‘Citadel”, which is cadet blue (?) and black, which is called Night. The yarn stitches up beautifully. great stitch definition to see detail.

I made a cute shoulder strap bag from the black (see photo). I am also creating a dress from a design created by ‘ Bag-O-Day Crochet” for a little girl, making adjustments for an adult (M). With the drape and sheen of the yarn it is beautiful so far.

Completing the yoke, 3. 75 Susan Bates hook, 4 skeins of Citadel and bottom will be Night (black). There were only 4 ‘Night’ skeins in the store and I grabbed them all, so when I need more I hope the lot doesn’t look different.

It’s hard to find a good red which isn’t leaning towards orange. This is a good red. This yarn is great for it’s long-fiber no-pill no shed qualities, and the real test of that is using for weaving. If you warp an inkle loom with kitchen cotton to make a guitar strap, your heddles will end up destroyed by the shedding fibers, but this yarn does not do that.

It is a good yarn for weaving, and weaving is one of the best stress-tests for fiber-shedding. That being said this is an extremely soft and cotton with a drapey hand which makes crochet work more delicate and knitted work with great stitch definition and a fluid, swingy movement.

The beautiful sheen on this yarn gives an attractive finish to any item, and I find it particularly suited to crochet table mats, which look stunning against a polished dark wood surface. Patons Grace Yarn is also softer than regular cotton, making it ideal for baby bonnets and other tiny garments.

And, at 100 percent cotton, it is super-strong and particularly appealing to those who prefer natural fibres.

The yarn is incredibly soft and makes for a great mottled look in your finished project. Two things to keep in mind when choosing/using this yarn: (1) This yarn will tend to split easily. This is likely due to the manufacturing process that makes the yarn soft and beautiful variegated but also makes the yarn very slick and the plies difficult to hold together.

Just slow down a little while working the stitches, and this yarn will work up beautifully for you. (2) Go shopping for this yarn in the store in person, if possible, for the sake of making sure the skeins are the color you want/are imagining.

I have also seen complaints in the more recent reviews about people receiving differing dye lots for large orders online. There is no guarantee when ordering more than one or two skeins of yarn that Joanns will be able to select ones from the same lot.

Further, because this is acrylic yarn, the color difference between skeins from two different lots is often nonexistent. In my personal experience with this line of yarns, you can usually get away with using skeins with from two different lots in a large project.

made several infinity scarfs with the caron silver party and they are so soft and squishy after being washed and dried and the metallic thread changes colors throughout the scarf sparkling under most light sources.

im going to make a cardigan next. as for recommending to a friend every one who sees one of the scarves i says something making it kinda hard to get my shopping done.

Looking for a yarn with a subtle sparkle for knitting or crocheting winter holiday accessories? I use this ultra-soft, worsted weight, acrylic/polyester yarn for knitting holiday chemo hats for women and children at my local medical center.

The color selection is great for Christmas, New Years, Hanukkah, or Kwanza. This yarn knits beautifully (see photo) in spite of the metallic-looking polyester strand trying to separate from the acrylic strand at times.

Since I have never kept a hat for myself, I don’t know how well the yarn holds up to washing. I put the fiber content and “hand wash, air dry” on my gift tags. After 5 years, no negative feedback.

I cannot knit, so my review is based on my crochet experiences. Up until recently, I’d always used Red Heart’s “Shimmer,” purchased @ Walmart. When it wasn’t available recently, I got “Simply Soft Party.

” I’ve used and liked Caron “Simply Soft” in the past, so I was happy to discover this addition to the line. “Party” is fun and easy to use. I chose a “J” hook (versus the recommeded “H”), and I would recommend using plastic instead of metal, as the yarn will split if one is not careful.

I have only made scarves, so the occasional split was easily corrected, and splitting rarely occurred when I switched to a plastic hook. I will still use the Red Heart “Shimmer” in future, but have added “Party” to my stash as well.

It has a different sparkle than “Shimmer,” and I plan to do a project using both yarns. I also consider “Party” good value for money, especially when purchased @ Walmart. I believe it is a yarn that a beginner could use without problem, as it is stretchy and flexible and very smooth on the hook.

Best of all, it’s fun to use!.

This is my ‘go-to’ yarn for use in my Addi and Sentro knitting machines. Smooth as silk, never an issue. Only downside is I wish they made more colors. Definitely recommended!

I love this rich yarn. It looks like alpaca and sheep wool mixed together. But it’s only a tiny bit natural fiber. It’s mostly acrylic. The colors of this line are so deep and jewel like. I would love to get every color and make a sweater or shawl in each one.

They remind me of a style that’s regal and vibrant. The thick, wispy fiber combined with deep, lush hues makes this a perfect yarn for cardigans and sweaters for me.

I really love this yarn!!! I wish I could give five stars, however, please beware of knots in the skein. I purchased 8 and 4 of them so far have knots, I balled the next skein and it has a knot as well.

This creates a few imperfections in the work because the color transition is not subtle and trying to hide the knot. I find this more of a challenge than an inconvenience for personal projects, but I won’t be able to use this for items I intend to gift or sale.

I really hope they can quality check better in the future because this is an amazing yarn and feels great to work with.

I recently discovered Caron cakes at Michael’s. After watching tutorials from YouTube and reviews, I thought I’d give it a go. Nice quality yarn. Love the colors. It’s great when you are making shawls and blankets and never have worries about changing colors.

Skinny cakes are great for lighter projects like baby blankets, scarfs. So soft! Pricing is good value. But it’s even better with Michael’s coupons and rewards. Thank you Michael’s!.

The colors! Need i say more? Yes, because not only is this yarn beautiful to look at its sooo easy to create with. No yarn splitting, no knots, or crazy sections. Just lovely crafting. Get this! It’s my fault for being too tired when I placed the order. I wanted something to knit, so a crochet pattern is useless. I was going to use the yarn to knit something else, but it was not easy to work with.

I’m too much of a newbie for yarn this sophisticated.

I only bought this kit in order to get the Frostbite colorway, as that was the only way to obtain it for a long time. The colorway is gorgeous, but I’ll be using it for something else. 🙂

I truly LOVE this kit!!! I love the amazing rainblow yarn, easy to understand instructions for any level crocheter! I will continue to use such an awesome company working like crazy for such great causes!.

This yarn is too much like kite string. It splits easily and is not soft at all. , though the twist is sufficient to not be too troublesome. There were often knots as I pulled it out. While the colors are pretty, I wish there were transitions between them instead of just a knot.

The black has a hint of brown to it. It doesn’t slide on the crochet hook well, but does not squeak. I think I paid about $10 for a cake of 1100 yards, which is a pretty good value. However, I would recommend Yarn Bee Rainbow Rhapsody from Hobby Lobby for about $9 a cake.

Gorgeous colorway, soft and beautiful. This is the only yarn you can get in the States that is like the gorgeous cotton yarns in Europe. I made summer tops for my adult and child granddaughters and they came out so distinctive and lovely.

And if you place the thread through a bead, it will help keep the thread together, making crocheting a breeze. Just wish there were more color combinations.

I thought the cake was a little smaller then like yarns I have bought. I do wish it was in the stores, I had been looking to see this type of yarn before I purchased but no one carries this type even though it is very popular.

I crochet cushy lapghans for an area hospice. Because most people seek warmth during that time, I double my strands in each project. Including a strand of the Red Heart Ombre adds interest and lives up some pieces as the shading of the colors is softer and less noticeable, so the work is both useful and pretty.

So many yarns today offer variations of colors that stop and start so abruptly; the soft shading of natural coloration of each yarn. Only drawback for me is that Red Heart has stopped creating soft to the touch yarn (unlike its With Love line which is soft) and I surely with the Ombre mimicked it.

I used some of this yarn several years ago, it was fine. Not a high quality yarn, but ok. Purchased some the other day and began knitting a hat for my daughter. Working with this stuff is akin to knitting with plastic coated twine.

No matter how loose my stitches, the yarn sticks horribly. The only two good things I have to say about it, are the colors and it doesn’t split. I’m having to get some stainless needles in hopes it will help, cause with bamboo, it’s terrible.

They do not make yarn like they used to. This yarn was made in Turkey (no judgment on Turkey, but just for your information). The thickness is inconsistent Sometimes the yarn splits and I have to go back and correct a stitch.

I have bought these Jumbo skeins before, and they are adequate for basic knitting (scarves, throws). I do not know of any yarn nowadays that is of excellent quality. This color, “Petal Pink,” is a nice creamy pink — not too pastel and not too bright, appropriate for adult or baby items.

The photo appears a little lighter than actual color — but, there are no dye lots nowadays, so I guess you take your chances. Happy knitting (or crocheting)!.

Sollte doch mal geribbelt werden müssen, unbedingt auf ein Holz oder einen Pappkern wickeln, da sich sich sonst das geribbelte Garn zu einem großen Wollknoten verwandeln kann.

I’m making a beanie for my granddaughter who is going to college next year in St. Louis (hopefully). This is the yummiest yarn I’ve ever worked with. It’s so soft and just plain delicious. I’m thinking of buying more and making her a sweater too.

I bought this product in October for 2020 to knit a throw for my friend. I bought it again to knit the same thing for a dear friend for her 80th birthday. It’s easy to work with & feels divine. I knit very tightly, so I used size 8, not 7 per the packaging.

My Mum recommended this wool to me and she was a fantastic knitter for 75+ years. She really knew about wool, from fleece to garment. She spun, dyed and knitted our jumpers, gloves, socks &tc. when we were young then for her grandchildren.

She knitted toys and Nativity figures which were sold in places like Hong Kong and New York as well as Uk. Her little people/animals could almost breath by themselves they are that good. This wool seems expensive for a ‘bog standard’ knitting wool for every day jumpers, but in my (short) experience as a knitter for my family, I have found that of all the 100% wools I have used and I won’t use synthetic ‘wool’, this is the best by far.

It feels gorgeous while using and when knitted up, it has a good weight and the wool doesn’t bobble as much as the wools made with a shorter staple & it washes well. This Merino blend is basically a gorgeous wool, not many, if any knots in the yarn either and the colours are solid and haven’t faded yet from many washes.

This is currently my go-to favorite sock yarn. I’ve purchased several balls in various colorways. It works up in a long, beautiful color change. It looks amazing knit as is or striped using two different balls/both ends of one ball.

This yarn is a little on the thinner side of sock yarn and makes a nice dress sock. So far I have NOT had an issue with breaks or unintentional color changes mid-ball. In fact I have not found a knot in the skeins I’ve worked with.

This yarn does not frog particularly well. You can frog a few times, but by the 3rd time or so it starts splitting and fuzzing.

Who says F is a bad grade? My yarn came so quickly, I wasn’t even expecting it. F for Fast!! Their website was very enjoyable. F for Fun!! And the yarn I ordered was packaged wonderfully, and soooo luscious! F for fabulous! There you have it.

I bought a skein of this yarn to make a welted cowl from a pattern on this site. The cowl project was easy and produced a good-looking piece, but the skein of the gradient yarn left it short by about 7 rows.

I knit evenly and according to gauge and so was disappointed. The colors were beautiful; the texture not as soft as I would have preferred.

The colour changes are the main feature of this yarn, beautiful jewel tones change to create a unique look, reminding me of those oil slick rainbows when its worked up! There’s a base colour with at least one other thinner strand of colour going around it, these change in separate gradients so it’s a delight to see your work goes through stages of being blue/purple/green/mustard etc with other colours throughout! The yarn is soft and easy to work with for crochet, I made a top with mine with a 4.

00mm crochet hook and its warm too. I did notice some inconsistencies with the thickness of the yarn, occasionally very thin but mostly thick fluffier parts about 7 times throughout the ball. The colour variations distract from this for the most part though.

Can’t speak for knitting but when crocheting this yarn, I found the fluffier parts can get interlocked as you go. Now this is good for the security of the piece but if you have to undo some stitches you may find they don’t want to separate without tearing some fibres or cutting it.

When making the wrong number of chain stitches I had to dispose of some of the yarn as when I pulled it to unravel it was stuck fast. Only a little though. And I had no problem undoing larger & looser stitches.

Good amount provided and well-wound. I had no issues with tangling, I worked directly from the ball as it was bought. Generally fab yarn, I have bought a second ball, would absolutely recommend it if you are attracted to it!.

I love the yarn, it’s great when crocheting and the colours are lovely. I keep looking for the next colour and love them all. My only small issue is when I was sewing the sock together the yarn became very thin, each time I pulled it through to sew the pieces together, to the point that it broke.

It wasn’t a huge issue, I just needed to re-thread some more, but my other yarn doesn’t do this. So just make sure you have enough for sewing up garments as it becomes thin and break as you sew.

This wool is very soft and knits consistently well. It changes colour at good intervals so you get variety in when knitting something. I used it for a scarf which requires lots of wool. This ball was really handy because it did not have a knot once and was a relaxing easy ball of wool to knit with.

As a teenage knitter I was very impressed and actually felt proud of my result which doesn’t happen a lot!.
