20 Best Yarn On Amazon (2022 Updated)

I’ve been using a few different brands for most of my cotton yarn projects, but earlier this month I came across a pattern for a table runner that called for 100% mercerized cotton. After doing some research, I came across Lion Brand 24/7 yarn.

I picked the three colors I wanted and commenced my project. What a difference this yarn makes! I LOVE the way it works up! It has a springiness/stretch that is very nice and the color selections are very good.

I’m just finishing up this project and I do believe I’ll buy some more of this yarn and make matching placemats as well. Also, I’ve been wanting to make my daughter-in-law some summer tank tops and I do believe this is just the perfect cotton to use for that, as well.

I’ve found a new favorite – 24/7 will be my “go-to” choice of cotton yarn for many, many more projects. I’m very, very happy with this yarn!.

Very very easy cotton to crochet with. Mercerized so no DREARED splitting that occurs with most ply cottons. Also it is a medium weight 4 cotton mercerized yarn which is pretty hard to find – usually these yarns are sport or fingering weight.

Looks polished and crochets up extremely easily. Great for summer tops or for giving cotton projects a more luxe look. Drapes decently too!.

I bought some of this yarn to create a baby afghan. I used the blanket stitch to create texture. This yarn is so amazing. The blanket is perfect for a new baby, such a soft fluffy texture you can’t help but feel the baby will be wrapped with lots of love.

One does have to be careful not to pull the threads while crocheting. I made it a habit to use my thumb to protect previous stitches; however, if you do pull a strand of thread, just go below and place your hook under the whole strand and gently pull the yarn back into place.

After washing, it went back into place naturally. Next project will be a cardigan.

With no doubt in mind, Lion Brand Truboo Yarn truly won my heart. I gave it 5/5, because the quality is spectacular. I love making small flowers with this yarn. The color is really the true beauty of this yarn.

The orange may seem neon and may make you not want it but, I was mesmerized how that almost blinding neon color, converted itself into a true form of art when the sun hit it. It was such a beauty it made me fall in love with it.

Ever since I haven’t stopped using it. I love it!! C’est très magnifique!.

I bought several skeins of this to work on projects for family. One being a shawl and the other a cardigan. I can’t say I’m too happy with it. I’ve never had such trouble from any brand of yarn, save one, before.

It tangles easily, unravels horribly, and is the most frustrating in terms of fibers. Because of tangles due to how poorly it unravels from the inside (every skein was the same) I decided to unravel and roll into a ball.

While doing this, my entire front became engulfed in a storm of tickly fibers. I had fibers in my eyes, in my nose, my mouth, and my shirt. I bought this yarn based on the glowing reviews, but never again.

I’ll stick with my go to brand from now on.

Great value, even more so with a coupon or if it’s on sale. But even without, you get a lot of yarn for the price. It’s on the thicker side for a worsted weight yarn and pretty soft for a value yarn.

I found the quality to be great, I crocheted a cardigan using two skeins and had plenty of yarn left over (more than half the skein). It’s not scratchy or itchy at all and feels very solid. Would recommend for fall or winter weather wearables and blankets.

I bought three skeins and one of them had one knot, the rest had no knots which I thought was impressive for this much yarn.

I have used this yarn for many many years to crochet Afghans. It was the perfect weight and so easy to work with. Now, it has been changed. I was working on an Afghan and got a new skein of yarn to finish it.

It was like crocheting with a totally different yarn. It was not as heavy and I could tell the difference immediately. I couldn’t use it. Luckily for me I had another skein that must have been processed earlier.

If this is what this yarn is going to be like now, quality wise, I’ll never buy again. I’m heartbroken. This was one thing I could count on.

I brought these little skeins knowing exactly what I was getting. I believe these are going to be great for my little people projects, like my Harry Potter projects & my Marvels Universe projects. The only thing I’m concerned with is the colors.

The colors are not labeled It can become a little confusing when making little people that require a specific color.

The color assortment was great, but the size of the skein really doesn’t allow for more than a cap or mittens for a newborn. These should really be described as “bonbons” and not the usual balls or skeins.

Because of this, I consider the pics and post somewhat misleading. For the price charged, you could purchase five to six full-size skeins at WalMart or another retailer. If you’re seeking a color assortment of yarn for small, almost mini-projects (definitely nothing bigger than sock or bib), then you’ll enjoy this purchase.

A nice sampler package that offers a nice variety of popular colors. I make trinket boxes using plastic canvas so I don’t need quantity of yarn for my projects but shades of colors that are in the same family to achieve a nice result.

I used to only buy red heart, but recently started experimenting with other brands. Unfortunately, I likely won’t be using red heart anymore because the quality is a lot lower than other brands. Their yarn is very scratchy and uncomfortable to wear.

I knit a sweater with red heart less than a year ago, and just recently finished another sweater using a different brand. the difference in quality is actually crazy. I’ve only worn the red heart sweater twice (I even had to wear a long sleeve shirt underneath because I couldn’t stand the scratchiness) and I have to stop myself from wearing my other sweater every day! Other than the quality, another reason I switched to another brand was because of the price.

It’s not like red heart is cheap, so I don’t really understand why the quality doesn’t reflect the price. The brand I currently use is less expensive than red heart and I like the quality much better!.

This yarn is a utilitarian yarn, use it to make towel toppers, tissue box covers, a door knob cover… do not buy this to make a blanket in hopes of snuggling up with on cold winter evenings. Opinion aside, more aggravating than anything is the inconsistent sizes between the different colors.

The light yellow is close to sport weight but the black is almost bulky. The same is not true for darker yellows, golds and oranges but the brown is so thick my H hook consistently misses half of it.

The ratio of the light tan and yellow (but not white) to the blacks and browns (but not dark blue) is 7:6. I use the yarn because it’s cheap and sturdy. I don’t mix colors and don’t recommend it. My recommendation is actually yes BUT ONLY… and since a recommendation should never have a “but” I’m going to say no.

I used to use RHSS ALL the time. Sure it wasn’t the softest when working with but usually softened up a bit after washing. A few months ago I bought a lot while it was on sale. Every other skein is absolute garbage that is so rough and scratchy that I couldn’t even stand to do a small doll with it! And then there was no way I would give or sell it to anyone.

I even tried washing a swatch to see if it would soften up and it barely made any difference. The only plus is it’s number of colors but you can find sooo much better acrylic yarn via Big Twist Value and Living or at other stores online.

I’ll never pick up a skein of this junk ever again.

I knit double thick cuffed beanies for the unhoused neighbors in my community, using an Addi Express. Each beanie uses one skein. Wool-Ease is the only yarn I have ever used. My Addi works great with it.

Tip: Every skein or two, rub down the machine with a cloth with a little squirt of food grade silicone spray on it to reduce static build-up that can cause split or dropped stitches. We like the 20% wool in the hope that it will help add some warmth when the weather is wet.

The recipients really like their beanies. We wish that Blick would carry a chocolate brown, as the umber is too pale for our purposes. Our recipients currently like choosing among black, nightshade, forest heather, flint, and tawny port, and would love to have chocolate brown too.

I ordered this for curbside pickup and it was not plain white. I couldn’t see the silver thread online and nothing in the description mentioned Starlight (metallic name on linbrand. com) on Joann. com.

There was literally no way to tell that this was not plain white. I like wool ease but no one really wants this yarn. They have oodles of balls of this stuff and nothing in plain white. I don’t know if the Joann in Redmond even carries plain white, as there was nothing to exchange.

I am keeping it for now in hopes that the next city over has some so I can exchange it for white, thus retaining the sale price.

The first ball was fine and it knitted up well. It is a heavy worsted yarn. Ball two has been a nightmare. It’s full of “knots” where lengths are joined together. I came across so far two areas of frayed yarn.

I had to take out a row because the yarn is not useable. I’m now pulling out lengths of yarn prior to starting a row so I won’t have to stop in the middle of a row and go back and start the row again.

It’s an inexpensive yarn but I expected better quality.

I have purchased hundreds, and hundreds of dollars worth of this yarn, and have made 17 huge afgans with it since Feb. 2013. It is much better feeling than redheart which was my staple yarn, until it became so jagged and rough (years ago) my hands could not stand it.

That was when I found the Bernat SVY. Bernat has a bit more thickness than most 4 ply worsteds, and for this reason am able to use an I hook instead of an H for the required project. The reason for my 3 stars is that there should be more consistency between colors.

I got 4 feet into a project, having selected my colors, and the PEACH is truly 20-30% thinner, and softer than the other colors. Had the same problem with 2 of the new colors, HOT BLUE, is THICKER AND ROUGHER, and then I add COOL BLUE next to it, and it and Cool Blue is 20-30% THINNER AND SOFTER.

Fortunate for me I was doing a 4 cluster double crochet project and had the knowledge to just add one more double crochet to my pattern (each cluster). This of course required 25% more yarn, but no way was I changing the color pattern I had originally planned for this project.

HOW ABOUT SOME CONSISTENCY BETWEEN COLORS? By the way, WASH YOUR PROJECT IN DREFT BEFORE GIFTING IT. Washing removes the sizing and makes the blanket/scarf over all softer and drapey. I do enjoy my crochet projects with this yarn, I just wish I could count on consistency.

Also, not too many “knots” where the yarn ends and another is tied into the other to complete the skein. HOWEVER, THERE ARE SLUBS OF OTHER COLORED YARN THAT ARE FOUND WRAPPED AROUND ONE OF THE PLYS AND IF YOU ARE VERY CAREFUL, AND HAVE A VERY FINE SCISSOR YOU ARE ABLE TO REMOVE WITHOUT HAVING TO CUT OUT THAT PIECE.

This has got to be one of my favorite yarns. The appearance is the best part. Very matte and not shiny. In all the heather colors, it really looks like wool. It is a perfect worsted size. Not too thick or thin.

A perfect medium worsted yarn. Made in Canada. It washes very well. It is unbelievably light weight. There is a lot of yarn in each skein. About 426 yards. It comes in a lot of colors. I call it a secret wonder because no one talks about it or knows about it but it really is wonderful.

DO NOT believe it when it says the RHSS Aran yarn had No Dye Lot. I just received the 5 skeins I ordered and one is a distinctly different color than the other four. So much so that I could not possibly use it in the same project with the four that match.

And furthering my disappointment, I actually prefer the color of the one loner. It has a more beige tone which I associate with Aran more than the yellow ivory of the other four. I will be returning them all and picking out something in person.

So much for trying to save me a trip to the store! UGH!.

I plan on making fidget accessories for our senior center. I got the idea when I saw patterns on sale for “fiddle mats, muffs, and cuffs”. These are for Alzheimer and dementia patients because they fidget and it gives their hands something to do.

They incorporate a lot of different small items on the mats, cuffs, and muffs. I bought these yarns for the small items: balls, rings, pom poms, tassels, etc to add to the mats, etc. I thought a lot of colors would add interest.

I count at least 5 different reds that could be used to make cherries. How’s that for interesting? I am really pleased with these,.

One of my favourite bras and styles. I hope it becomes a staple bra design for the brand. I purchased Tawny Port and Rumba Red! Fit is is beautiful and supportive too!

It is comfortable and stylish, but slightly large in the underarms. I had to go up a size to large as the medium bras are a little too tight in the rib cage area, but the large is a little too loose, but it still works!.

I have aways chosen caron 1 pound yarn for projects because of the thickness of the yarn and how nice the project looked when completed. I recently bought my yarn online instead of inthe store where I could feel and see the thick ess of the different colors.

What a disappointment when my package arrived. The thickness of the 4 ply medium weight was more like baby yarn. I may need to find another brand of yarn for my crochet projects. I always recommended caron one pound to others when asked what my favorite was but no more.

I love this yarn! It is slightly thinner than some other cotton yarns but for the projects that I make, it doesn’t make a difference. I use it for washcloths and soap saver pouches for charity programs.

I also find that, for an equivalent weight, this yarn has more yardage. It also tends to be a lower price than the other brands. So, at a lower price, you get more yardage. It’s a “win,win” for my charity projects.

I purchased 2 skeins of this yarn for an item for that someone ordered for me to crochet. She was looking for a particular color and this was the only one in cotton in my local store that was appropriate.

It is difficult to work with, splits on almost every stitch! If I hadn’t already agreed to make it, I would actually just throw it away! It’s cheap but not worth the frustration!.

I was looking for a soft cotton yarn that was easy to work with (without much stretch) to make a bedspread for my new bedroom. This Premier Home is exactly what I was looking for! It is soft and doesn’t separate easily like some cotton yarns do.

I’m using only one color so I also wanted to be able to see the beautiful designs in the stitches. This yarn fits the bill on all accounts… just lovely!.

Fairly easy to work with and projects definitely come together quick with how thick this yarn is. It’s got the weight and warmth of a wool blend while also being soft and machine washable and dry-able (yes I tested it in the drier once I finished my project and had no shrinkage).

Only complaint may be specific to the color blend I purchased (barley). The warm leaves little bits everywhere. I found small wool thread particles all over after finishing a project and my floors required a good vacuuming.

Baby Soft is perfect for making layettes. I always try to have at least two layettes on hand in neutral colors (green and yellow). As soon as I know a family member or close friend is pregnant, I send them labeled color swatches of Baby Soft to select the layette color they want.

I use less lacy patterns for boys, more lacy patterns for girls and somewhere in between if they aren’t announcing the baby’s sex until birth. If you use Baby Soft buying the three pack is the most economical unless Michaels has a great sale.

Order two three packs. Depending on how large you make the blanket (I always make it larger the the pattern states) you will need the extra 4th and/or 5th skeins.

I bought 5 skeins of the Lion Brand Baby Soft yarn in white for a baby blanket. I prefer to work from the inside of the skein and as I reached into at least 3 of the skeins (possibly all of them) the inside has been a bundle of tangled mess, including yarn joined together in several places with knots.

The current skein I’m using took over 3 hours to untangle, including having to cut my project away from it and then rejoining the yarn once untangled. If I hadn’t already gotten so much of the blanket done already I would have taken it all back to the store.

I have never had this problem with any other yarn so I may never buy this brand again. I love the feel of it when crocheting with it and the blanket is softer than I had expected so I am pleased with that.

I would really like the yarn if it wasn’t for the horrible tangled and knotted mess.

So I was excited to see this yarn on sale, it is so soft and has a lovely sheen. It’s just perfect for the sweater I’m making. Problem- I looked at the website to see how many yards were in each skein and ordered all the yarn I would need for my project at once.

Picked it up curbside the next day. I’m very upset to see that, although the website claims the skeins I bought have 315, the yarn package says it’s actually only 250. Because of the websites error, I don’t have to enough yarn for my sweater.

Please keep this in mind when calculating yarn for your project. I tried including a picture of yarn package that shows the yardage per skein but the website wouldn’t kept saying they were having problems with review and to try again.

So I deleted picture and it submitted fine. Very nice yarn otherwise. Highly recommend the yarn!.

This is my first, and last, time using Caron Simply Soft. I wanted to try it, as I know some folks love it and sadly bought enough for a queen size blanket. This is the worst yarn I’ve ever used! It splits horribly and there’s absolutely no consistency in size.

It’s supposed to be worsted weight but it get so thin in places, its thinner than baby weight and I’m other places it’s thicker than bulky weight. There are huge slubs in the yarn that I’ve had to cut out and have found at least one skein (so far), that’s entirely unusable! Is there no quality control at all?? I don’t even want to finish the blanket that I was so excited to make.

I dread even picking the project up to work on it and when I do, the stitches are so uneven, it’s just sickening. Never, never again!.

I made a lovely sweater for my Granddaughter’s 5th birthday in November. It is the first sweater that I have crocheted and I was scared. Didn’t need to be afraid using this CARON SIMPLY SOFT yarn because the yarn was consistent in size and was of great quality! I purchased white to make wide stripes with some green CARON SINPLY SOFT yarn that was a gift to me.

The white made a lovely contrast with the green and made the green more alive for a small child. I was very impressed with how soft the sweater will be against her skin and the warmth it will provide no matter how cold and snowy it gets this winter! I am so impressed with how my sweater turned out that I intend to make a sweater for myself to help me keep warm this winter and I have never made any clothing for myself before!.

The color in real time is a bit more warm tone but I still like it. Compared to the ombre’s and stripes, the solids are softer and less sticky. Yes it splits easy but when washed it does tighten up which is nice when using it for kitchen appliances and small grocery bags.

Small test swatch useage, the cotton yarn is very durable and surprisingly protected my desk from burning when lighting a candle in both a tin and glass containers. Having my cats play with it, yeah it got a little messed up but when stretched it a little, it went back to normal so will be buying more to use as cat toys.

I’ve purchased several colors / skeins of Sugar ‘n Cream yarn before and have always been very happy. But this skein of yarn gave me problems. I came across a knot within the first 1/4 of the skein, which was actually holding two different ends together.

I cut the knot out and wove in the two ends. But the worst was the twisted 4 ply kept separating, unwinding. It made it difficult to knit, and showed in the knitted piece when finished. I was only knitting dish cloths so I struggled through it.

I want to knit more in this color, but a bit worried that the next skein will be the same. Hopefully, it was just one bad Skein. I’m not giving up, I’ll buy more.

I bought this yarn to make a crop top and a bralette and I absolutely love it. It’s soft enough to wear next to the skin, but sturdy and hardwearing enough to actually be worn. It doesn’t split whilst you’re working with it and doesn’t snap.

I love that it’s wraped in a cake which makes pulling from the middle really easy, and I love how vibrant the colours are. The fact it’s machine washable is a big plus, and it’s affordable enough to buy multiple skeins at a time!.

You cannot go wrong with Red Heart Yarn. Good quality for a fair price. And the color selection is amazing. Every color there is in the spectrum. Feels even better after you wash it. Softens the yarn a lot.

I never put any yarn project in the dryer. I leave it flat to dry. So I honestly cannot say if this dries well in the dryer. I do use a bit of fabric softener in the wash and vinegar to make sure all the soap is rinsed out.

I can honestly say that all of my Red Heart projects have held up great over the years. I do a center pull with my yarn until the package falls, then I wind the rest up. Never had any complaints about this yarn.

Fabulously soft with great stitch definition this acrylic/wool blend knits up quickly to produce great garments, I have made a an adult jacket and child’s sweater and recommend this yarn wholeheartedly.

Machine washable and so great for kids’ jumpers, there is a great variety of colours for every possible project. In addition this yarn is great value for money.

Good quality yarn. Really thick and chunky. More than usual super chunky. Perfect to make a basket with sturdy sides.
