20 Best Yellow Perch Lures (2022 Updated)

I was looking around for a less expensive swimbait option and ran into these. At first I thought the hook looked a bit large for the bait size but I picked it up anyway because it looked very realistic.

After fishing it a bit I loved the tail kick action. The bait is much more weedless than you would expect with its fin/weedgaurd. I started getting bit and found no trouble with hookups. After a few fish the paint job was taking a lot of damage but it almost seems to work better for me after it was roughed up.

After many fish the thing still works fine. It’s made of very durable rubber, I’ve had short strikes many times and have never lost the tail. A great bait! I will buy more.

Live Target’s Yellow Perch swimbait consistently catches big bass, but not out of the box. Fresh out of its package, it has an overwhelming burnt plastic smell emanating from the lure. To combat this, I painted the swimbait with clear garlic oil based fish attractant and let it dry overnight.

The next morning, I caught my three best LMB of this year. If the bass/pike/muskie in your area feed on perch, and you have a preferred fish attractant, these swimbaits might help you to find a few kicker fish.

Very nice lure, had many hits using this for Muskie, Walleye, and Northern. Sometimes all it took was one cast. I love the weight, perfect for about 60-80 yards. I’ve sometimes found myself just playing with it because it’s so realistic.

Worth every penny. Now to save up and buy some other colors of this model.

Bought this for bass and walleye took it to the pond and the bass loved it fish after fish, but it broke the next day a bass just shook and snapped it. It dose look phenomenal in the water.

I have this crankbait in 4 different sizes and they all work great! Walleye just love these. They are so real looking and built very well. I have landed many large Pike and Walleye with these hooks and the only problem I have had is a twisted up split ring from a really strong Pike.

Even after the countless teeth clamping down on the hook the paint only has a few minor scratches.

Great lure that I have used for many years. The color on this really is very brilliant in the sun. Lots of fish are attracted to it. It’s also tough and lasts a long time since it is built so well. The original silver with black back also is an excellent version.

One of the most reliable lures I’ve ever owned! Whether your casting or trolling the jointed rapala catches bass/pickerel/walleye. My go to color patterns are gold/black and silver/black.

That’s what I call them, “Old Faithful”. I have caught more big bass on this lure than on any other. I like the J-11 for largemouths and j-9 for smallies. They work from ice-out to ice up, but are better in the summer.

Use any color that you like. The fish couldn’t care less about color. Color is to hook you, not the fish.

Opened the package, clipped it onto a leader, cast it out twice. The third time casting out I caught a Pike. Same thing happened with the second one that I purchased and this time I was in an entirely different body of water.

Years ago, I owned dozens of Rapalas. Original Floaters, Fat Raps, Husky Jerks both jointed and non. I remember having great success with all of them, mainly for Bass. Sadly, I lost track of a Plano box I had them all stored in when I moved a couple years ago, so I lost all of them.

So anyway, fast forward to now. went out and bought a bunch of Size 10 and Size 12 Husky Jerks. Mainly in the Yellow Perch, Glass Minnow and Glass Perch colors. These things are so phenomenal, even better than I remember.

I took a size 12 Yellow Perch out, tied it on, and was getting bit on virtually every cast, and thanks to the 3 VMC trebles, if something hit this lure, it STAYED ON. One of the main forage fish in my area of the country is Perch.

Pike, Pickerel, Bass. they all love to eat them, and this lure in the water gives off a great flash when you’re twitching it. With jerk baits, one often thinks they’re really only good in the fall, and cold water.

Not so. The water in my area is in the mid 70s already, and all it takes is a faster retrieve in the warmer water to get bit. Repeated slight jerks of the rod combined with a slow steady retrieve, synced up with the twitches I’m imparting with the rod tip.

It makes the lure sort of dance very erratically. This was the retrieve that worked the best for me. I didn’t need to pause it very often like you would in cold water. Ended up catching a bunch of fish, multiple species.

Pickerel are sort of a nuisance fish where I live, and I caught several 18-22 inchers, and the lure held up wonderfully to their aggressive strikes & sharp teeth. The only complaints I have with these lures, and the reason I couldn’t rate it 5 stars.

is that these lures don’t really “suspend” like Rapala claims. They have a very slow float to them when paused, not a true suspend. It will sit head down in the water, and rise slowly. Does it make any difference? I don’t think so.

The only other complaint I have is that after I landed about 3 or 4 fish, the lure started running kind of funny until I made some tweaks to it and it returned to normal. It ran true out of the package to my delight, though.

I’ve had trouble with other brands of Balsa lures. Anyway, these are great jerk baits. A true classic, and in my opinion, just as good as any of the more expensive jerk baits on the market. If you don’t have any in your arsenal, you’re missing out.

If you’re struggling to land fish with other lures, give these a try. Especially if bait fish or perch are the main forage. They’re good ALL YEAR round.

The smaller DHJ-12 has long been one of my go-to lures for big summer pike, so I was excited to try the new 14cm model. Looks like I’ll have to switch the hooks first — these are the same size hooks you’d find on a regular # 8 or 10 Husky Jerk.

Any fish big enough to eat a 14 cm lure is not likely to come in on those dainty little things. Come on, Rapala! I can’t imagine why they’d put hooks on it that are so badly out of proportion they are with the rest of the lure! I’ll take these three hooks and replace them two bigger trebles, one on the front and one on the back — never mind the one in the middle.

But once that’s done, this should be good.

While I was excited when this lure was announced, I must admit it is disappointing at best for saltwater fish. The lure is still too light and does not have the diving traction I was expecting. The profile is still too thin to attract most fish I would have expected such as snook or even Ladyfish.

The lure needs more work imo.

Great lure that performs excellent. Check out the comparison videos online of the Rapala RipStop to other jerk baits, this one has them beat! I’ve caught plenty of LMB with this one along riprap, amazing action.

Only thing I’d change is that I wish it went deeper, this model says deep but 4′-8′ isn’t deep to me. Color options are great, I went with the tried and true silver which hasn’t failed me yet. At the price Discount Tackle has them for you can’t go wrong.

I love these rip stops, and Discount Tackle has the best price on these things too you won’t find them nowhere else this cheap These babys work wonders and will build up your confidence in using jerk baits!!! If you never had any luck with jerk baits try this one and I guarantee you’ll be hooked on using them !! I am a bank fisherman up in Ohio and I normally throw the 1/2 oz or 5/8 oz lipless with quite a bit of success in the fall. There are a couple of ponds near me where I know the bass are a bit smaller so I was looking for something more their size and found these from Rapala.

Got it in the mail yesterday and went out last evening. Caught 4 decent largemouth in an hour. Normally I might catch 1-2. I definitely recommend these 3/8 oz in ponds up here in the midwest.

The Rapala Rap-V is the best new lure I have seen in years. High quality, great choice of colors/designs and has incredible action. Have caught bass with them every time I have been out this year.

You cannot go wrong with these lures especially in early spring in moving water the bass go crazy over these. I prefer the party crasher fishing in the merky Maine water. But all the colors seem to work well.

I highly recommend trying these you will not be disappointed.

Take the time to get to know this bait. You can use a slow steady retrieve with it, but you can also walk-the-dog, burn it or make it dart erratically like a fluke. There is no wrong way to fish it, but take the time to understand how to use it under specific conditions.

The 168 is a fantastic bait for anyone wanting to try a slightly larger profile swimbait without investing in a dedicated swimbait setup.

168 S-Waiver was the first swimbait purchased to learn how to swimbait fish. Can not count the number of 4-7 lb bass caught on this lure. Runs true and swims with very little effort. If you have never fish a swimbait.

this one should be your first. great strong hooks. not many fish get away. Great price.

The Bomber A lure itself is a fantastic lure that really gets smallmouth and walleyes well in the Rivers I fish. The problem with the Bombers and some of the other similar baits like Smithwick Rouges is that 3 or 4 out of every 10 lures fail to run true out of the package.

You shouldn’t have to worry about needing to bend the eyelets on them for adjustment. It usually doesn’t work anyway and you have to remove the split ring to do it so it’s a pain. It would be an easy 5 out 5 stars if the baits ran more consistently out of the package.

Last year I purchased a couple of these lures while salmon fishing in the river. They ran true right out of the box, sharp strong hooks, good color selection. I like that they are a little heavier, cast a little farther, and run a little deeper than the other baits I like to throw.

Salmon seemed to like them as well. I now have a tackle box full of these.

This is a good jerkbait for smallmouth. I also catch walleye and pike sometimes. I use it as a jerkbait and also as a trolling bait. It is good in lakes, reservoirs and rivers from spring to autumn. Also, it is indestructible! The only flaw is that you have to tune it sometimes.

Also, it does not troll well at very high speeds.

I get a lot of fish on the Pearl White 2 inch. Caught largemouth and white bass. Recently I got into some white bass and about the 8th one broke the back treble hook off. Since it was my last one I switched lures and didn’t have anymore luck.

So I ordered 3 more so I have some backups. I also have caught walleye and drum on it. Not so interested in the drum. lol. I have fished on a rod with up to 15 lb flourocarbon line on a 6′ 10″ rod. Works better on lighter line.

I get an excellent hookup ratio with this lure.

I bought these because my local stores were out of my go to lure. These looked similar to the other brand and were slightly cheaper. They out performed my favorite lure. I took them to a new lake far from home to fish for several species of fish I have never fished for.

I tied one on and that was the ticket. We caught three bass species and walleye on them. I shared one with another fisherman. These lures are hot!.

So I went shopping at cabelas and was looking at fishing stuff and my little brother was looking at the fish when I saw this lure and knew this was the one. That was two years ago in 2020 it’s 2022 now and yesterday I was looking through my garage and saw a cabrlas bag looked inside and saw the lure along with my little brothers glow bobber and my sick fish rubber lures but I grabbed the flicker shad and went inside to the news of the fact we were going to the lake so I packed up my fishing stuff and went as soon as I used that lure I knew I loved it it swam through the water Nicely and made the nice flicker sound.

The durability of this bait is really unmatched by any other bait I can think of, I have one that literally is missing half of it’s body, the plastic lip, and even the middle hook after dozens of beatings from Pike, Small Mouth Bass, Large Mouth Bass, Walleye, Musky, and even Bluegills all in one lure! I always have it one me as a lucky charm! It’s action is beautiful and perfect as expected from Rapala and always produced fish throughout the day.

And can be used for any tactic like trolling and casting. For patterns I have Silver, Blue, Yellow Perch, and Gold Plated Fluorescent Red. All are very good patterns, I would recommend Silver for sunny days, Orange for cloudy days, and any natural pattern at any time.

For sizes I’ve always used 4-3/8″ and up to 7″ for Pike, Walleye, Bass, and Musky. I don’t really recommend using any smaller as they become very light and hard to cast in the wind, unless your fishing for Crappie and all other species of Panfish.

I personally would recommend buying three patterns for each light level, one bright neon for cloudy days, one shiny/reflective for sunny days, and one natural for any other times. The only downside to this bait is the price.

It may seem like a pinch for the price but it is easily one of the greatest investments I’ve ever made. I have hundreds of lures and this is still my number 1! Thanks Rapala for another beautiful bait, that has caught me countless fish.

The go to bait! The perfect multi-species bait! Advantages Catches all species of fish, large variety of colours, beautiful action, the best durability in the business. Disadvantages Cost.

The Rapala floater has caught lots of fish for me all over North America. Most notably I have caught hundreds of pike with them over the decades (using the larger sizes and primarily standard/common colors).

I mostly use them on topwater, though a faster retrieve causing them to run a foot or two deep can work great, too. Again, I have caught hundreds of grayling in Alaska and the Yukon as well, using the 3 and 5 centimeter sizes — for some reason the grayling can not resist the gold color on a sunny day.

As a note, the Countdown and sinking models work fantastically in the Northwoods on walleyes, especially starting about an hour before sunset. On big lakes, let them get deep. Experiment with the colors.

If a lake has perch or bass, try those patterns for sure.

I bought a handful of these baits after a suggestion from a friend. Let’s just say I’m impressed. I fish a LOT and have fallen for my fair share of hyped up recommendations from fishing buddies. So, I go out on a fine Minnesota summer morning and am using the 1/2 oz Yellow Perch bait on a bait casting rig.

I caught several very respectable bass in the 4lb range, some very good Northern Pike, and a great Muskie! This is a workhorse of a bait. It’s a great sinking rattle bait with a square nose. The effectiveness is easy to see and if you want to put fish in the boat, buy some of these.

If you’ve fished Rapala Clackin Raps in the past. I’d recommend this bait as a superior replacement now that Rapala canceled that bait. I also like the sturdiness of this bait, many baits show wear after toothy fish love on them, this harder plastic weathers abuse very well.

Hands down the best colored lure I have ever used. I’ve caught smallmouth, largemouth, crappie, pike, walleye, and rock bass on this lure. I at all times have one on 1 pole and would not think of fishing without it.

I purchased a few Bad Shads because I was impressed by the reviews. The first one I tied on seemed to have very good action but ran a little to the right. I tuned the line tie a small amount and cast it out and it ran a lot to the left.

Tweaked it a very small amount back to the right. Next cast, ran way back to the right. To make a long story short, it took about 10 minutes of tweaking to get it to track straight! These lures are way too finicky, very easy to bump the line tie and cause the bait to veer to the left or right, and very hard to tweak back straight.

I’ve been fishing with crank baits most of my life. ( I’m 67 ) and these are the hardest to tune lures I have ever fished. Save your money.

Cloud 9 is an exceptionally well made and stunning crank to have in the water and hooking up to a large jaw is so fun!.

The C15 is a great bait to fish those deeper rock piles in 10-15 ft of water. They grind off the bottom and rocks so well and have very few hang ups. This crank tracks well no matter what it is bouncing off of.

Lavender citrus and candy citrus are by far my go to baits. Lavender in clear water and candy in stained water. Phenomenal baits.

I tried the 5″ yellow perch recently. I had gotten it to cast for pike but, since none were active, we trolled it, hoping some pike might be available further from shore. Got a 27″ walleye on it and missed something else big.

No one else was catching anything. I need to fish this more to be confident. Like it so far. Held up well.

Pike sure like this lure in fact I need to purchase a few more since they have sure tore it up , great colour and good weight for casting as well as keeping down below the surface. A little pricey though hoping to get more on sale soon.

This bait is awesome, it has a tight wobble but yet it will flat out catchem in any season. I always have one of these tied at all times. This bait, like I said catches them year around becuase of there wide range to cover water depths.

The only down fall I have with this bait is that it’s fragile. It’s great that it’s made of wood and it does rise back up but they need to work on the connection point, from the crank baits bill to the bait it’s self.

Stronger glue or screws or something.

Its a good lure, well made but the hooks will not last up in saltwater. Recommend changing the trebble hooks as this is a super lure in saltwater. Not to be used around heavy cover and snags but works well from a kayak or small boat for inshore pelagics and even some grouper.

Recommend you create a burley trail when running the lure.

This is a fish catching crankbait. As soon as it was hitting the water I was pulling fish after fish. I’ve used a color similar from another brand but it caught fish but most of the time I had to deal with it twisting around the hooks often.

As soon as I saw this color online I knew I had to have it because I knew it would catch fish and I mean big fish. I’m in love with Rapala because their crankbaits are one of the best one made. Keep up the great work and I can’t wait to see what color or colors are next.
