20 Best Yellowfin Tuna Lures (2022 Updated)

I have purchased several of these. Lately the tail swivel has been failing and the hook is lost. The swivels are very poor quality and not the best for trolling. I have caught many fish with these are they were the go to trolling lure but I’m going to give the competition a try.

Just caught my 3rd wahoo 2 days ago!!! I got my first wahoo dragging this lure 12-15 mph behind my boat in 275 feet of water pretty far behind my boat, last one was 8-9mph right in the prop wash not 20 feet behind my boat.

I have 130lb braid with an 80lb mono top shot on it, when I get a hit I actually hit full throttle on my boat in an attempt to really set the hook. I have fought wahoo right to the boat only to have them open their mouth and let go of the lure 🙂 Love these Yo-Zuri Bonita lures, I have 3 or 4 others in differnt colors!.

Went 76 miles out of JAX Beach to catch black fin tuna and dolphin. First 20 minutes in the water, I had two dolphin in the boat, both on this color combination 35 feet behind a 16 oz. trolling weight at 7 knots.

U Tried the other colors and got one black fin (30 pounds) on the silver combination.

They are sold out everywhere due to the COVID-19. Tackedirect have them and provide fair price. Pink and yellow fin are my favorite colors. They work on night tuna fishing very well. Worth to try.

I bought this specific color (pilchard) to mimic the greenies and they worked great. I was fishing for Spanish mackerel at Sebastian Inlet and casting next to people using Gotcha lures, silver spoons, and jigs and I was easily outfishing them.

I was casting into the breeze and was still getting a decent distance thanks to the casting weights inside the X-Rap. I would recommend the X-Rap for anyone fishing for Spanish mackerel. In my experience, it also catches plenty of bluefish, but I would recommend changing the hooks out to 4X hooks.

The hooks that come with the lure tends to bend too easily from the violent head shaking bluefish tend to do.

I have been using Rapalas for years and I have caught plenty of fish on them. Lately I’ve been getting into Smallmouth fishing and have found that they are partial to Fluorescent colors. The X-Rap 10 in Hot-Head, Hot-Pink, Clown and Silver Fluorescent Chartreuse UV are deadly for Smallies.

This lure has all the action of their more expensive cousins at less than half the price. They suspend, they can be jerked, walked underwater, snapped, and whatever other way you want to work them. Don’t get me wrong, I love and use Megabass, Lucky Craft, Ima and others, but to purchase 10 of those baits would cost at least $200 and up.

To purchase the same amount of Rapalas would be anywhere from $100-$120. As technical as fishing has gotten with all the different colors and actions and variable ways to use the same lure, I’m 61yrs old, yes old school and on a budget, the moto is Keep It Simple.

With something that is tried and true, you can never go wrong. X-Rap 10 and Deep 10.

I was marking the exact area where the fish were holding. I tossed the Rapala RipStop 45 yards back into the shallow point, working along the side. Stopped, jerk, jerk pause, jerk, jerk, pause the rod bent over the ripstop hit a stump, but quickly pulling the rod away, the extremely sharp hooks sank into something big.

It was a beast of a largemouth gill flaring open as the female rose to the surface, rocking her head, me pushing the rod tip down as she moved like she didn’t know it was not a real shad. The action repeated four more times, with each bass looked like a twin.

I had taken a picture before releasing the first bass. I never stopped to snap more photos. It was just to much fun!. I.

I bought these a couple of weeks ago. I have only tried the Halloween lure while Mahi fishing. Mahi seemed attracted to it however they wouldn’t strike it. I could see 3-4 Mahi following it through the water but they just wouldn’t strike it.

Switched over quickly to just squid on a hook like my buddies and caught my limit. I will try the other colors next time to compare. I did catch a few bunker on the blue and pink one though.

This is the best rough weather lure out there. When the waves get big, this lure produces. We trolled this lure in 4 foot seas and it was the only one that got bit on the entire trip. We caught two barracudas, a Skipjack and a small yellowfin.

We also hooked a marlin and a couple of dolphin. If you fish in an area where conditions change quickley, buy a couple of these.

Just returned from a trip 80 miles offshore from Louisiana. On the troll this lure was the only lure in the spread that got bit multiple times with multiple species, till we finally lost it to a toothy critter.

Replaced it x3 as soon as I got back.

This is an old lure originally made here in Oklahoma; I have used it for years to troll for walleye. Its thin profile is highly attractive to them and catches them. I troll in about in 7′ of water and the thin fin dives and cruises at about 4′.

We are fortunate here in OKC because The Water Trust stocks walleye in its reservoirs which makes for easy fishing and good eating.

I am always surprised that these are not more popular. Apparently they are popular in Canada, but hardly anyone in the US uses them. While they are similar to other flat sided crankbaits, they are definitely unique.

The body shape of a ThinFin (fat in the middle, narrow at the top and bottom), seems to have a more realistic look, action, and vibration. They look just like shad, herring, alewives, shiners, bluegill, or other important baitfish.

In addition, Thinfins are one of the most versatile cranks I have ever seen. You can twitch or jerk them, crank them, burn them, stop and go, troll them at all speeds and depths. And they catch bass, walleye, pike, even a surprising number of catfish.

Just yesterday I caught a 19″ channel cat trolling an older model black/silver/red belly version. I just wish that: A)They had a few more colors, like some of the older colors, or some of the Hot n Tot & Smash Shad colors B)They hadn’t discontinued the deep Thinfin, and C) They made a larger size for musky (or striper and saltwater) fishing.

I managed to get ahold of a few of the old 3. 5″ ones, but they’re a little smaller than I would like, plus, if I lose them, they only get harder to replace. Also, BPS needs to carry the red ones.

astounded that I finally found a lure that my friend and I used for years! We have searched high and low for thin fins because of our luck when fishing with them. they suddenly became unavailable in our area so we gave up! Thank you so much for making these lures available to us!.

These lures possess an extraordinary ability to catch fish and large ones at that! I troll with leadcore line from a rowboat and have used both sizes to catch Brown Trout, Lake Trout, Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Yellow Perch and White Perch.

The action is a tight wiggle and the color selection is more than adequate to cover any water conditions that may exist. (Fire Tiger and Gold/Metallic Silver have been pure dynamite!) My only critique is that the hooks should be upgraded to a 3X wire hook.

I will be purchasing more!!!.

Great lure that can often get through light vegetation/weeds without snagging up. Walleye and pike killer. Often use in place of hot-n-tot which gets caught up more.

Jigging Raps were the go to bait at the Cabela’s NTC on Lake Winnebago in September. With the shallow heavy rock reef presence in the lake it was difficult to use any jigging rap that had a forward hook.

Moonshine Lures have no forward hook. The Moonshine Lures were very popular and the Holographic Shiver was the color that worked the best for us. All the stores in the area were sold out and when we lost our last one in this color our luck changed.

These lures have a little different action than other lures I use. Something different. Guys up north like Shiver minnows and will soon be used farther south. If it swims it will bite a shiver minnow.

The shiver minnow is different then other types of jigging rap style lures it has a rolling glide action. Best lure I’ve found when walleye go deep in late July- into fall. Use #3 for larger walleye #2 for 4lb and smaller walleye.

Bought the lure to augment an offshore trolling spread consisting of surface and near-surface lines. Fished the plug on 20-pound trolling outfit, with 12-foot 150-pound mono leader, run about 100 feet down the middle.

The plug pulls hard when trolled at 7 to 8 knots, but digs down and swims well, even at that speed–although anglers should be warned that at that speed, a 20 is about as light as you can go, as the lure will take line off the reel if anything less than 7 pounds of drag is used.

Primary target for the lure was dolphin (mahi-mahi), which hit it well when not showing on the surface; the plug drew a strike from my largest mahi of the 2018 season.

I bought these cranks to replace the same ones I used last fall. They worked exceptionally. I pulled three 8+ pound walleye with them. The action was not as fast as my other cranks but the result was big time.

These lures along with the Mag 30’s are great offshore trolling lures. Teeth will scratch the paint up but I suppose that is expected, They are a little pricy but THEY WORK! A great value when bought on eBay for a low price.

It stinks when you loose one due to a toothy fish hitting the line, but they run better with mono or fluoro than wire.

Out of the box, probably 5th cast, bounced off a wooden piling and the rear 3/4 of an inch broke off from the body, and sank. Not a hard cast, not hard contact, should not have snapped in half. Can’t comment on whether the lure catches fish or not, never really got the chance to see.

Would suggest you get something a bit more sturdy.

I haven’t found a good use for this one yet. It works on bluefish, but so does everything else. I haven’t gotten tuna or bass to hit it yet, but I’ll keep trying. Cool looking lure!

Husband was dubious about my purchase… Picked up 4 kingis 1st time we trolled them… awesome little lure…Husband now keen to use them.

These are awesome I rigged them with bigger hooks and heavier nylon had live skippys in tuna tubes all day today will be investing in more of these

Only think good was the head feathers and skirt came off during transport in my truck

I have been trying to buy this lure for the past 6 months. The lure is the 18cm Rapala magnum hard body Red Head. I have bought a 11cm over 10 years ago & they are great for kingy & bonitos. I’m looking to chase Spanish Mackerels & tunas with this big 18cm while trollings.

Perfect midwater action on these lures, have got kahawai, kingfish and even snapper, John Dory on the smaller ones if you jig and then let it sink . Overall great product and my favourite lures to use

You may have to get the 1 oz on Ebay vintage listing as I don’t think you will fine it listed. Great cast, trolled or deep water jigged. Will take most fish but I use for lake trout, walleye, N. Pike.

This is a go to lure for smaller to medium size Calif Halibut and striped bass from the surf. Anglers tend to throw giant baits thinking 20 lbers and end up missing out on nice quality keepers which are feeding are smaller baits found in the surf.

They cast well and come in numerous colors to match the hatch on the bait fish. Best deal is they only cost $5. 00 in a time when some Lures can run $20. 00 or more.

Beautiful lure and built well. Can’t wait to test it out and I’m confident it will catch fish especially since I’m a firm believer of Yo-Zuri products. Always do well with Yo-Zuri lures. Perfect bass lure.

This is gonna my secret weapon in tournaments. Great colors very vibrant and realistic, great body shape and action. Cast a great distance with the internal rattles and the action is just crazy going through the water rattling side to side.

I have thrown a lot of Rap and I have never seen a Crank bait move like this. If you wanna crank bait that moves like a real fish and catches fish give this one try.

I love this lure. It’s a fish catching machine during the late season when the walleyes and pike are down deep. However, if you fish this lure long enough, you are going to be deeply disappointed. The lip/line connector is connected to a plastic tube.

This plastic tube is simply glued into the balsa wood and is not attached to the hooks in any manner. After the wood has been stressed a few times, the lip, connected to your line will separate from the body and hooks.

It’s happened to me four times. I now connect the first set of trebles to the lip with a small piece of fire line. It needs an internal wire, or wire tight to the bottom of the lure that connects the hooks to the lip.

Trust me, you are going to have your heart broken on huge fish. It’s a matter of time because you are going to catch big fish with this lure.

I recently retired and moved south. Being from North Dakota I still wanted to catch walleyes. The action of the Scatter Rap is irresistible. I catch walleyes, crappie and bass now in Arkansas.

Trolling on a longline off the center – I lose more of these than any other lure – which is both a good and bad thing! I typically run then on 80 lb mono with a 5/0 circle hook (unusually just green and yellow) and nothing gets hit more often – or bitten off more often! While I hate losing them, at least I know they attract fish! I have tried using wire at the connect point (but it does get hit less often because I fish in very clear waters) I have just decided to keep rolling the dice and ordered a bunch to keep them handy.

Have NOT used the pink skirted ones yet – but at least I know the standard yellow and green work so I have faith these will too.

Pulled this the day after I received it and caught fish with the first 30min. Great feather for the long shotgun bait.

I love everything about this lure. It can be trolled at a variety of speeds and rigged with either mono or cable depending on target fish. I recommend getting some extra skirts because a wahoo will shred them on first strike.

Also, this is a 12″ lure with an 8″ skirt, not 16″ with 12″ skirt as Bass Pro Shops advertises.

Expensive but they work, better than a mold craft half their price? Maybe not but I still like to have a couple in my arsenal.

great lure…have been using in the northeast for White Marlin

I fish the East Coast of Florida and this lure just works!!! Went out of Cape Canaveral in Jan 2015 trolling in 80′ of water and caught 4 kings (2 over 30lbs) and a sailfish (5. 5′) in two hours (both on Black w/white belly).

Had it in a pattern with a Rapala of same colors which had no bites. Switched the other rod to troll two of these and got a double. Used the same lures in Sept/Oct of 2014 and caught many cobia. I highly recommend this lure in this color.

i highly recommend the orange chartreuse mackerel, in one fishing trip i got four strikes a wahoo, a mahi, a spanish mackerel and a bonito the lure was brand new and know is destroyed. is the best trolling lure ever.

I catch a variety of fish on this lure and it is easily tuned to run straight. I use this color at the same time as the 24 MAC. When I see which one gets the most action, I double up on the same color.

I love these! , hard to find too. always at BPS though. A killer on trout and panfish, especially crappies! The (1-3/4″) paired with a small jig head, it’ll catch them all day long! I have multiple bags in my vest when i’m trout fishing, Alewife, Smelt, Alewife and Arkansas Shiner.

I think the Arkansas Shiner is the best all around color, it catches more trout (brown trout kills these) and crappies. Arkansas Shiner is my go to bait but if they aren’t biting that color, then i’ll try the other colors.

Dont hide the hook because if you do, u wont get a good hook set because of the fat body.

I have used these for years, all sizes, works great freshwater, inshore, near-shore and offshore. has the most realistic movement of all jerk baits I have found. The only trick I found is matching the colors to what is around, AKA match the hatch.

I have caught some nice Florida Large Mouth, snook, spotted seas trout, redfish, blue fish, tarpon, dolphin, cobia, grouper, snapper. if it eats fish it will eat this bait. Use with the Lunker City hooks works the best.

I have allways been weak to fishing soft plastics after big perch,bass and northern pike. The Fin-s lure has a very nice action and is killer in the spring when the water is still a bit cold. I change the size and color depending on what the fish are feeding on and how the light conditions are at the moment.

Highly recomended too have a few in your tackle box.
