20 Best Young Adult Thrillers (2022 Updated)

I enjoyed this book from the first page. The character Amos Decker is awesome. David Baldacci is an amazing author and I would highly recommend this book and the whole series featuring Amos Decker!

If you have enjoyed the strange life journey of the Memory Man, you will not be disappointed. Forced to take some leave time in a town ruined and dying from the selfish actions of the towns founder, Amos stumbles onto a double murder that just doesn’t add up.

And the murders continue, even attempts on Amos. In this sequel, Baldacci gives us a story that mirrors many our modern problems and leaves us looking forward to his next book.

This is my favorite Baldacci series. Now 6 books! Main character is Amos Decker who can’t forget any memory. Wonderful supporting characters, too.

This author never lets me down for a quick afternoon, nail biting, drama!! This one, like all her others, truly left me guessing until the end. This thrill ride is one I’m sure to read over and over again.

Her other books are just as suspenseful and marvelous to read as this one. You will surely be thinking “WOW – did she really just go there”?! PICK THIS UP. You will not be disappointed.

I set down on a Saturday afternoon with this book that just struck me when I was glimpsing through an aisle and this book was everything I could have wanted. I finished this book in one sitting because I could not bring myself to put it down for longer than a couple minutes! It has the perfect amount of romance wrapped around a sensational story-line.

This book WILL keep you wanting more. Totally worth the read.

Another fabulous novel by Natasha Preston. Basically a girl named McKenzie is at a party at a cabin with friends. The next day, 2 end up murdered. Now all of them are suspicious of the others, wondering who did it.

I won’t say who but it’s definitely a twist that you’ll love.

Second book in series. Loved knowing about the new characters. It’s an adjustment with Juliette seeming timid a lot in this book. A lot more is revealed about Adam and Warner. Juliettes expanding her knowledge of herself is nice also.

literally leaves you wanting for more. i was always on the edge of my seat and getting to see juliette grow just makes me so excited to read more of the shatter me series. so much drama too unwrap and there’s never a dull moment (especially in the romance parts *wink wonk*).

There is only one author that’s made me squeal with absolute joy and made me blush while reading a young adult book and that is Mafi! I read and reread this book and I do believe I will reread this whole series again and again! Amazing work!!.

this book was a solid 4. 5/5. a great enemies to lovers ya. it has the classic forced proximity, fake relationship, trope. the last few chapters felt like pearson was just trying to tie it up quickly but the very last chapter was incredible.

I ended up loving this story way more than I had expected. The characters and the relationships just suck you in from the very beginning. Not having read the Remnant Chronicles, I was scared to go into this spin-off series but I’m so glad I did because I found one of my all-time favourite YA characters.

This book is a story that keeps you on your toes. It’s exciting, entertaining, tear jerking and all round amazing. The characters are amazing and so is the plot. This book allows for a fun escape. Amazing.

while the story is good and continues the series, the amount of foul language is very distracting and unnecessary. i wouldn’t let a young adult read this book because of the language in it.

I always enjoy Patterson’s books and this one I gave to someone else to read and they are very happy with it.

Jack Carr is a good writer. Keeps the story moving. I’d say he’s a good deal better than Brad Thor or Vince Flynn, on the average. Not to say they are bad, Thor is pretty good, especially his earlier novels.

the only quibble I have with the story is this: there is no man on earth who could hit a man at200+ yards with an M1911 pistol ! If Carr was special forces he should have known this. And an M1911 is NOT a suitable gun for defending oneself at against grizzly bears! if he wanted his protagonist to have a handgun in addition to his bow, it should have been at least a.

44 Magnum with a long barrel. it would be damned hard to hit a man at 200+ yards with a long barreled. 44 Mag, but doing so with a 1911 is , well like doing it with a sllngshot.

Author Jack Carr is a former US Navy SEAL and has the background to get his books right. His detailed accuracy is impeccable. He was not originally an author, but his writing simply gets better in each book.

Some may be turned away by the violence or by the technical detail included, but others are attracted to the realism. If you are interested in fast-moving action and correct tactics, weapons and equipment, I highly recommend Jack Carr’s writing.

Good read, details are excellent in describing action areas. Heart beat goes up and a nice story runs it’s thread through out the book. If there is a criticism it would be only an aside saying this is a young author still feeling his way.

Give me the next book. seasoned a bit and Brad Thor will have his competition.

I am a reader above anything else. Nothing excites me more than a good mystery book. I picked up this book at the library on a whim, unsure how I felt about the cliche of high school stereotypes. Crazy how I was so hesitant at first and now own every book that McManus has written since.

I will say that, to me, the end was predictable; I simply had a hunch. But the journey to get to the end was quite thrilling. There were still crazy twists and turns in the midst and will definitely leave you on the edge of your seat.

This is a good mystery book. Has a great storyline. It starts off a little slow, but it keeps you on the edge of your seat anticipating what comes next. Hard to put down. The author is great and love reading her books.

Would definitely recommend anyone who loves mystery books to read this.

This book puts a nice twist on the ‘Whodunnit?’ plot, putting us in the shoes of not the investigators but the accused. The characters are well-developed, and each one goes through struggles and has secrets that will keep you guessing till the very end.

Each secret revealed brings us closer to the conclusion – one that is well-earned. The characters all end up in a place that seems like a natural fit for them, and every one of them you find yourself rooting for, even if it at times you wonder if they killed Simon.

Their are some elements that need improvement, and at times the mystery seems to drag in favor of a few plot lines that are not quite as important, and a few characters are rather suddenly connected but otherwise the book is one of the better I’ve read in a long while.

Though Pip is retired from the game after her first big case, a new crisis strikes. With the Fairview police as useless as ever, once again, it’s up to Pip to unravel the secrets of her not-so-quiet little town.

The stakes are much higher this time because she thinks that just maybe she could save a life, but what happens if she can’t? Reading as Pip dances with the danger of losing herself all to solve another great mystery is even more enthralling the second time.

She takes it right to the edge just as she did last time, but how many times can someone walk to the edge without falling?.

I read this book. It is so good I loved it I would definitely recommend buying this book, my best friend loves reading and I recommend this book to her and she bought it! My order came early as well which was such a bonus!!! I was so happy! I love the smell of new books!!!!!!.

I was hooked on the first book but I wasn’t quite sure where the second book would go. After reading it, I definitely recommend it. Can’t wait to start the third book!

The first book in the Maximum Ride series sucked me in within five minutes, and the series has not let up yet. The series follows a group of genetically enhanced kids who have escaped from a laboratory, and are fighting the constant waves of experiments trying to retrieve them.

This is not just another “kids with superpowers” book, each member of “the flock” is unique and compelling, and could probably have a book devoted specifically to them. There is a great physiological struggle carried through the series, which occasionally brings Max to her knees.

This is where the other members of the flock truly shine, and you see how the characters have become reliant on each other. The only thing I would get rid of is that dog.

This hardbound book is in very good condition as is the autograph. Ive not read it yet but my sister has read all the series and she loves them. Now I will begin reading this. Very exciting series Im told.

The third book in the Maximum Ride series. The plot follows both books, but is easy to understand even if you start in the middle of the series like I did. This was the first book of the series that I read which makes it close to my heart.

We learn more about the plans the School has for the Flock and the Flock learns they have more supporters than they realize.

I can’t wait for the rest of this series. The magic, the creatures, and the themes in this bookmare amazing. There is so much female empowerment and brings to light the imbalance and unfairness of a patriarchal society.

There are alot of hard topics covered in this book including sexual violence, abuse, physical violence, xenophobia and misogyny. All of these are handled very well in my opinion and the fact that it is tackled in a fantasy book makes it easier to talk about in my opinion.

If I was a young adult this would be a book I’d wish I was forced to read at school because I would never put it down. I’m not articulate enough to capture the essence of this book, but it is very steeped in ‘Woman Power’ feel.

However, like life, it doesn’t hide the fact there is traumatic and deep rooted life issues us young ladies have to go through. I’m going to try not ruin the ending but it’s empowering and points to us as readers when we come out of the daze of being in this amazing fantasy world that We can be hero’s, because we are.

What an absolutely beautiful cover. I was pulled into this fantasy world from the beginning. Deka is an amazing character. You root for her from the start. I need the next book right now. I recommend this one!.

I liked this one a lot! I found it more enjoyable than “The Family Upstairs”. I’ve read others saying they could predict the ending early on, but I actually did not. Now with that said, I didn’t think it would be the true obvious choice.

I actually found the true story behind it all to be rather sad. Bullying is definitely a problem, and while I know two wrongs don’t make a right, it did somehow feel like karma was served. And it also felt a bit sad knowing that Jenna’s mom really was paranoid beyond reason.

It’s a quick read, so if you’re a fan of Jewell’s work, I definitely recommend this one, too!.

This was a psychological thriller like no other that I have ever read. Just when I thought I had things figured out, the author threw in another unexpected twist. The characters were good and evil or innocent and unassuming.

My favorite character was Joey who metamorphosed into a lovable sister by the end of the book. Her brother Jack was almost an absent character, but he played a big role in the actual plot. I heartily disliked Tom Fitzwilliam from the beginning because he seemed such a shady character.

His son, Freddie, seemed to be a neglected loner, so he is another one that the readers will need to watch carefully as the plot unfolds. This book’s plot is developed like a thread that is unraveling from a garment.

You see the thread and you pull on it and think that you have found the problem. The author is a master at misleading clues and innuendoes. This is a fantastic book for those who enjoy psychological suspense! It is so good that you will want to buy it on a weekend and plan to spend the weekend absorbed by it! I read The Family Upstairs by Lisa Jewell, and didn’t particularly enjoy it, but thought I would giver her another shot. I didn’t enjoy this book either. Could be personal preference, but I felt like the story dragged a bit.

I also felt like there wasn’t a clear narrator, or character to follow. It would have been fine if it was clearly laid out in the beginning as multiple perspectives, but it feels like you start out rooting for one character, and that character becomes less and less important.

Or maybe I personally don’t enjoy the author. I’d recommend giving it a shot! Everyone’s tastes are different.

Excellent Read, too close to the reality of what a bacterial / viral pandemic could do to the rest of the world as well as the United States.

Fast, thoughtful and dangerous. Interspersed with current events that bring it home as real.

Starts off kind of slow but when you least expect Carr had sunk the hook in your lip and you’re racing through the story

This is a fabulous story where you feel what the character is really going through. The book has great messages about living your life, taking risks, and forgiveness. There is one inappropriate scene in the book that I wouldn’t recommend for anyone younger than 14 to read.

Overall this is a very touching book when reading. This book definitely has a world wind of things happening which always keeps the readers on their toes. Might I add one of the reasons I love this book.

One of the most important things that this book teaches people is to let go. It teaches you that you don’t have to have the perfect grades, be a perfect athlete, or try and have the perfect life. In reality, perfect doesn’t exist.

When truly understanding this concept of what this is trying to say it is very important. If people were to let go and just live life, they could be a lot happier. When reading this book it helps you truly understand what this main character is going through and how if you had to say goodbye to this world today, what would you be able to say you did? It really changes the way you think and can help you reflect on yourself.

Another aspect of this book that I think changes the whole book is how it can be so reliable. Many parts in this book are made for every different situation that a person might be going through, a character from this book might also be going through the same thing you are as well.

For all the future readers out there interested in this book, I would recommend going into this book with an open mind. In the beginning, it might not be interesting but if you stick with it you can really understand and get to know the main characters especially in the first few chapters.

Love is the main driving force throughout this whole book. Definitely would not recommend this if you aren’t into romance novels. This book may be found cringe to some people which is why it didn’t get the whole 5 out of 5 on my rating.

Personally I think this book does a great job getting you excited about the little things in the two main characters. Since in the beginning you were able to get to know the main characters very well, I think it just makes it 100 times better and makes you get very excited for the main character when things start to get shaken up.

Overall this book was a great book and I would definitely read it again!!.

I got hooked on the Michael Vey books as I started reading book 1. I am now almost halfway through book two and I plan to continue on. It’s a fascinating tale by one of our better writers of fiction.

I am a big fan, especially of “The Walk: series. But I am highly enjoying the Michael Vey books, and now that I have volume 7 I can sail along through the entire series. Volume 7 is in mint condition, and I appreciate getting it through Ebay.

An epic conclusion for Michael Vey and the Electroclan. I read this whole series in less than a month. Love this series with a passion, and I would recommend this to anyone. Thank you, Richard Paul Evans, for bringing Michael Vey into my life.

Literally Couldn’t put the book down. Wish they would make it into a movie. It would be great seeing a bunch of kids with different abilities working together.

If you are a Lisbeth Salander fan and have read the first three books, then you have to read this one as well. It is a good read and continues with many of the same characters that were in the first three.

The author David Lagercrantz is, in my humble opinion, not quite as good as the original author, but the original was such a genius that no one could properly take his place. May he rest in peace.

The revival of Lisbeth Salander was welcome but the read was somewhat disappointing. The first half was very slow in development. The second half picked up the pace. My reason for criticism lies in the fact that Salander herself was not the main character in the story.

There was very little interaction between Salander and Blumvkist. There was very little action at all. Hopefully the next edition will do better, with a little more action and perhaps a little spice.

A well-written story that makes you want to read it in one sitting. The author tells the story in chronological order and brings the characters to life. A good read, even if you haven’t read the earlier ones.

This book was a trip! I finished it in just under two days; even at 299 pages, it was a relatively quick read. This was likely because the entire story takes place within a single car ride. Glimpses into Mira’s stalkerish letters, certain missing car items, and overall weird behavior of the passengers just upped the thrill factor that much more! I did guess a few of the reveals and the ultimate culprit pretty early on but enjoyed the trip nonetheless.

I can’t even imagine getting into a car with a single stranger, let alone five – during a snow storm, no less! This was one wild and entertaining ride! I enjoyed it with my iced coffee, as I couldn’t very well cozy up in the non-existent AZ snow! Thank you to the Sourcebooks Early Reads program for my free copy.

Five Total Strangers by Natalie D. Richards was a fast-paced and engaging page-turner that had me on the edge of my seat wanting to know what was going to happen next. With all the flights to Pittsburgh canceled, Mira accepts a ride home with four other total strangers.

On the drive though, it seems that everything that could go wrong though does. And it seems to be due to more than just the blizzard, one of the passengers is intentionally sabotaging the trip. Will Mira make it back home for Christmas safely or will nefarious plans get in the way? Overall, I think Richards did a great job at making you wonder which of the suspects was the actual villain.

There were a lot of twists and turns that made every character the number one suspect at some point in the story. Thank you to the publisher the gifted copy through the Sourcebooks Early Reads program.

Psychologically damaging, to say the least. The storyline was nicely compiled and the diverse characters made it an enjoyable experience. That being said, you’ll probably guess who the bad guy is almost immediately.

A very good read! If you’ve watched the show, forget season two, about the only thing it took from Hidden Bodies are the names and I don’t understand that at all because it’s a much better story in the book.

It picks up right where we left Joe and removes the cheesy things that try to make him at all good. He’s a worst and it’s the best read!.

I get really tired of the prints that have “NOW A NETFLIX ORIGINAL” printed onto the cover. I searched the whole store for a copy without it, but there was not one available. Unfortunately, they didn’t have the book when I went looking for it initially – well before Netflix picked up the titles.

I have trouble finding anything that isn’t “in the spotlight” at BAM. I know it’s kinda snobby, it’s really just a pet peeve. The book itself is very well written – Kepnes does not disappoint!!.

I prefer to read then watch but this was decent! I’d recommend despite seeing the show first then seeking out the book. Narrative is close enough and still makes me shudder at points of, “OH SHI” both in book and show.

Worth buying used at the very least.

I’m kind of torn on this. I loved this series, especially the first two books! I’m very into true crime, so this series was a no brainer for me. Personally though, I felt like there were certain things in this book that were morally questionable for a Young Adult book.

I realize that there are characters in the book that do need to be held accountable for their actions. However, no matter what someone has done, I don’t think it’s morally correct to frame someone for such a serious crime they didn’t commit.

I realize I’m reading a series about murder, but the way it ended just didn’t sit right with me. Especially knowing that I was recommending this series to my teenagers, who are still pretty impressionable.

The writing and story really are quite great, I would just be a little more hesitant as to who I recommend the series to now.

Protect her. That’s the last note Owen Michaels has for his wife, Hannah. This thriller was WILD!!! Technically this book was classified as thriller but it may have actually been closer to mystery? Maybe that’s just my opinion.

I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough on this one. The author weaved an intricate story of deception that had me hooked. Not everyone is as they seem to be, everyone has secrets, and someone is lying.

but who? I highly recommend this one if you’re looking for a fast paced and heart pumping book!.

Great book. Kept me guessing for a long while. Another great read on the Reese Witherspoon Hello Sunshine bookclub. Easy read and lots of twists and turns. Without spoilers; Husband goes missing and she had to figure out why.

I wanted to love this book because it got so much hype when it was released. The story is far-fetched, and relies on the memory of a girl when she was 4 yrs old to piece together a mystery. I found it impossible to suspend my disbelief in order to get through the book.

This was a great dark academia novel! This is a novel about the main character, Stevie, attempting to solve Ellingham Academy’s famous mystery. When the Academy first opened, the founder and his family faced a tragic fate.

Their lives, a mystery to many for a generation, fascinated Stevie. Now, that she’s attending the Academy, she’s determined to find out what happened to the founder all those years ago. The main character was smart and interesting.

Her goal was to solve the mystery and she actively does whatever she can to reach her goal. There’s so much intrigue and mystery surrounding the Academy and it almost makes me wish I was studying there as well.

The secondary characters, the locations and all the ambition in this novel were executed perfectly. This novel also has some great portrayals of mental illness/ mental health. Highly recommended.

Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson is a tantalising mystery with interesting, contemporary characters and a fascinating setting. My only criticism about the book is that it’s part of a series (with the mystery not solved until the third book), but the fault is with me for not doing more research!.

A great start to a trilogy. I finished the series in about a week. I DEVOURED these books. They’re kooky, charming, and relatable, all while also going back to the silver age of Hollywood.
