20 Best Youth Ice Skates (2022 Updated)

The skates appear good quality for the price. My only complaint is that there isn’t a size chart. It appears these skates are 1 size smaller than shoe size. The box says: Girls 13K shoe size is a skate size 12.

My daughter’s current shoe size is 12K going into 13K and they fit well. I just wish this information had been provided so I didn’t have to purchase several sizes to find the right fit.

My daughter received these as a gift. After 3 uses the blade broke. I contacted Dicks and they said they could not help me. Replacement blades are over $100. So now I have unusable skates and a very unhappy child.

Sizing on the website matches shoe size. I wear shoe size 10 and that was what I ordered here. They are labeled shoe size 10, skate size 9. Fit was perfect. Sharpen before using. Good ankle support. Perfect for my adult level 1 class.

Brilliant little skates for young children. Our daughter was not impressed with proper skates as she could not do it properly. With these on she is flying on the ice like a pro. Definitely would recommend as first skates.

We loved the skates! They were just as I imagined. I bought them for my 2 year old to take her on her first ice skate outing. I was drawn to the small quad blades layout and these were just that and great for better balance.

They fit over her shoe and stayed in place. Arrived in a timely manner. I’m very satisfied.

The skates are great. Our grandkids ages 4 and 6 can get around the ice quite well. The bottom screw and nut were too short on both pairs of skates. They fell out and our daughter had to get a longer screw and new nut.

Maybe include a longer screw and some extra nuts? That way if they get lost, there’s a back up. Also, we were wondering if you make them in a larger size? We’d like to get another set for the grandkids next year.

Bought for my Daughter, they fit true to size and will adjust as she grows. They are solid, comfortable and she could skate better in them than the previous cheapo kid skates we had.

These are an excellent starting skate for beginner skaters. They were recommended by my daughter’s skate teacher and confirmed by the internet. There is a learning curve when breaking them in, as the toepick seems a little lower than the rental skates my daughter used to use.

But once she got past that, she did very well. THE SIZES ARE NOT THE SAME AS STREET SHOES. Be sure to look at the measurements Jackson website and measure the feet- they have instructions. In most cases you will be sizing 1 size down since skates run big.

So if you’re a 9 in street shoes, you will order an 8 in ice skates. Measure to be sure.

I bought these skates and immediately returned them. I have owned more than a few pairs of skates of various brands. Everyone I know who skates in Jacksons swears by them, so I thought I would give them a try.

They were so painful and hard when I slid my foot in them, I didn’t even bother to lace them up. I will be buying a new pair of riedells instead.

I bought this for my daughter who is growing quickly. They were true to size, have good ankle support, and the laces are a good texture and length. They need sharpening (as do all skates when new). I would recommend them.

I bought this last March during one of the covid lockdowns, which meant I couldn’t go into the store to find the right size. The skates were pre-sharpened (which seemed like a nice gesture, until I couldn’t return them).

The skates were a little small but I decided to push through. The first few times skating this these were very uncomfortable (which I expected until I wore them in), but after 10+ times they were just as uncomfortable.

After my first skate this year, I decided I couldn’t take it anymore. I looked up some reviews and realized that I’m in the same boat as many here – I ordered the 200 model and received the 1500 model instead.

As I can’t return the skates at this point, I will be donating them and hopefully someone with the right size feet can enjoy them. Very disappointed all around.

Would only recommend for beginner’s level. The ankle is very stiff, not sure that can be broken into. The boot and tongue aren’t padded like other Jakson boot for support (my teen had Artiste and Mystique).

The blade is decent. Fit true to size shoe size 7 skate size in this model 7). If your foot isn’t growing no more, I’d throw another $100 and buy a higher level Jakson.

I bought these and had the chance to wear them on ice. They are very comfortable and supportive around the ankle. I am glad I got these even though they were a bit pricier because my feet don’t hurt! Good quality skates.

The only thing I would say is that the bottom is not brown- they are grey coloured. Weird that the picture is slightly different than the one in store.

Purchased for 6-yr old using regular shoe sizing (size 13) as recommended, then went up one size (size 1) since she doesn’t like tight shoes. The insole was narrow, as expected for ice skates, but also shorter and smaller than her other shoes.

Returning for a bigger size. Skates look like they are decent quality, maybe a bit overprices. Otherwise, fastest shipping EVER! Received in rural VT within 2 days.

Blade is not sturdy. It doesn’t give enough support. Can be used for occasional use but can not be used for regular use. The look it better than pictures.

For a cheap pair of skates, these have been phenomenal! My daughter loves these and the fit is perfect.

A perfect pair of skates for learning. My 4 y. o. daughter tried skating for the first time on those two-bladed ones and I got her these. She could skate without support rather quickly. Sturdy, good looking, properly pink skates.

She has size 25 and I used the smallest setting and fastened them very tight. She fell in love with skating, I think pink skates helped.

Bought my daughter her first skates, these guys are brillant. Shipping was fast to the UK, the skates are brillant, got a adjustable size skate and they are perfect. My daughter was more comfortable on the ice compared to hire skates used previous sessions.

The size of the skates is misleading. The skates are too wide like size D for adults. Little kids like 10 year olds often have trouble keeping them tight to their feet due to the width of the skate.

Adorable skates with double runners that are further apart than the photo can really show – looks like these will help keep a toddler more balanced and price was very reasonable.

Very floppy material – absolutely no ankle support, no lining for cold weather.

This is a comfortable and sturdy pair of skates. It took about 12 hours (12 sessions) to break them in properly (they are a bit sturdy at first). They are great if you are learning to skate, going backwards, practicing 3-foot turns, some basic spinning, and even some basic beginners’s jumps (bunny hops).

Make sure you learn how to lace up online, so the boot fits you well but dont hurt you. I bought a new set of laces from canadian tire, just because the cotton ones that came were not giving me the necessary grip (I have thin feet and need to really tug on the laces).

I also had them sharpened at a professional shop (it is worth the cost, if you need good edges).

I hadn’t skated in 10 years and I decided to buy these skates. They were comfortable. I went skating and broke them in and they are great! I’m very happy with this purchase. I have wide feet so I was worried that figure skates wouldn’t fit and I’d have to buy hockey skates.

Even with a thick pair of socks these skates are comfortable. I love the vintage look as well.

I bought these skates for my daughter who started figure skating lessons about a month prior. I did take them to be sharpened after I received them also requested heat molding to break them in faster.

My daughter loves her skates! She skates very well in them. And Dicks sells them at a great price with coupons! My initial order was too big. I called and Dicks exchanged them easily for me. I ended up getting the same size shoe that my daughter normally wears.

(Wayne’s WIFE) Wish I had these when I was a teen. Had no idea how much of a difference it makes to have support in the ankles of skates. I am 43yrs old and, other than a couple yrs ago where I tried skating in cheap skates for 5 min and cried in pain from my feet hurting, I have not skated for 20 yrs.

Well I put these on a few days ago for a family skate and I skated for over 30 min. Being 287 lbs at 5’7″ this was an amazing accomplishment – and I didn’t fall once. I am hoping this will be a great help in my weight loss journey.

Nice figure skating boots. My daughter is just a beginner so can’t say if it will hold to more advanced use but overall quite happy with it.

Purchased for my son aged 5 learning to skate. He says they are comfortable and do not hurt his feet and i have them as tight as possible offering good heel support. Good quality and worth price paid.

The skates look great, fit well and my little boy loves them.

Bought these skates for my daughter who has outgrown the expandable skates that you always buy for little kids. She didn’t want figure skates, so this was the choice. They are definitely stiff at the beginning, but then they tend to soften up with use and mould to the shape of her feet.

Tying the laces is the hardest part at first as the boot is stiff and you almost need 3 hands to squeeze the boot so it’s tight on the foot and then the other 2 to pull the lace. These are much better than the hard plastic style of skates which never seem to soften up or mould to the foot.

The build and quality of the skate is good. We’ll see how they hold up for the time that they fit as kids do keep growing and outgrowing everything they wear. But I imagine that they’ll be outgrown long before they could ever wear out.

Better but if they’re on sale especially if you have to buy new ones every year or so due to growth.

I went to pro hockey life to purchase hockey skates for my son after being fitted on the electronic fitting machine we were told size 7, they did not have size 7 in the store so we were instructed to order them but they will be in and it in two days so I ordered them online before I left the store feeling confident I will get them before he needed them the following Wednesday.

I must let you know that I waited over 45 minutes to be served that day and being overlooked and many male customers were service before me. I did bring this to the attention of management at a later date.

A day later I got the email indicating the skates would not be in for 4 more days which was not what I was told. Feeling frantic I went online and found a size 7 at Sportchek So my son and I went to sport check to try on the seven skates the gentleman told us that was not his size and they were way too small he would need a 7.

So I am in the store and they only have a size 7 and now I need a 7. 5, the gentleman was very accommodating and found another brand of skate that my son liked equally that they had an a 7. 5, he took the time to fit my son and went above and beyond and gave me the skates for the same price as the other one.

I guess my advice or ask would be to a work on customer service skills with your team and also make it right for the not so perfect service that you delivers to me on that day.

No issue with the price and quality of the skate, however when I received it from Pro Hockey Life, the insoles were missing. My local store said they couldn’t help and to call customer service. Customer service said they’d look into a resolution.

They’ve communicated back a couple times saying they are escalating it and looking into a resolution, but 2 weeks later still no word. The only insoles sold in the store are $40-$60 so that seems ridiculous when my son has always found skates more comfortable with the default insoles.

Cross your fingers that your skates come perfectly fine or you could be weeks without something to hit the ice on!.

I purchased these skates to go skating occasionally on public indoor and outdoor rinks. They are very light and warm, which makes them easy to carry and comfortable to use outdoors on cold days. They are significantly lighter than my girlfriend’s figure skates.

I walked half a mile to a city rink with them in a backpack, skated for an hour, and walked back without feeling fatigued. The blades are centered on the foot so that my ankles don’t bend in or out, and the skates come sharpened out of the box so you can take them on the ice right away.

One thing to note: I researched Bauer skate sizing before purchasing and I am glad that I did, as it is recommended to get 1 to 1. 5 sizes down from your normal shoe size. I wear size 9 shoes so I purchased these in size 8, and they fit me well to slightly loose.

One thing I dislike is that it is hard to tie the laces to be tight around the upper ankle due to the shape of the plastic exterior, so they don’t hold on to my ankles as tightly as I would like. Also, the material feels a little on the cheap side.

If I were concerned about performance and durability, I would probably want better skates, but as I am only a casual skater they fit my needs without having a big price tag.

I looked for 2 years for skates for my 12 and 13 year old grandsons as they had outgrown children’s sizes. These were the only ones affordable. Adult Skates are SO expensive. So far these skates have been amazing.

So much so that my daughter in law borrowed her sons and is asking for a pair. I ordered them right before Christmas 2021 and they were delivered to Alaska in under a week in time to be under the Christmas tree.

I echo the other review of these skates that the Women’s sizing seems a little off. I’m a women’s 8 in Rollerblades, W 8. 5 running shoes, 7 (Men’s) indoor soccer shoes. and yet the W8 in these skates seems at tad big.

It was close enough that I added an orthotic insert and swapped out some longer hockey laces to make them work, but had trying them on locally been an option, I would have been curious to see how the W7 fit.

As the other reviewer mentioned, the EURO size seems to be the most accurate. (I have some W8 / EURO 40 cycling shoes. these are listed as a EURO 41. ) Try them on if you can.

My first time getting a pair of skates. I’m a size 10 and they fit true to size for me. They are really comfortable and great as a first pair of skates. They make such a difference to a pair of skates you’d hire at a rink.

These are really easy to control, nice and light. Really pleased. I also had a great experience with the customer service, I had queries answered straight away and the postage was really quick.

Decent skates. I use it for recreational skating. Remember to try it out to see if it fits your exact feet as all skates are not going to fit all feet. There’s wide and narrow toe area ones so pick the one that fits your feet without any pain and poking.

I am generally a fan of Bauer equipment, but this low-end skate is just. too low-end. My daughter needs more support in the boot and more insulation for warmth. For the price paid, I don’t think this skate represents good value.

I returned the unused skates and did refund a full refund with no problem.

The skates are great for a beginner like me. They are comfortable and warm. Tried them tonight on a neighborhood ice rink and, although a little loose up top, I got the hang of it and it was not an issue.

The only knock on this purchasing experience was trying to figure out my size. REI and a few other sites state they run the same as your shoe size, but Bauer’s own site says to go down a size from your shoe size.

I’m a 10 1/2 and went with Bauer’s recommended size 10. Fits perfect.

I was excited to receive these skates in the mail, bummed I couldn’t try them on at the store though. Sadly, I need to return because the skates are WAY WAY WAY too big. My husband – who wears a size 11 sneaker – was able to get them on his foot.

I ordered a M7/W8. I am a women’s 9. 5 sneaker. I’m going to try to order a M6/W7. Unfortunately, Dick’s is sold out so I’ll need to find another store with them.

Bought these a couple months ago. Great for beginners. No issues. Great that they come over-sharpened as well. Wish the laces were a little longer to tie around the ankle.

Good basic skates to go out skating for a few hours… my son loves them. He wears a size 10 in shoes and we got a size 8 in those skates which fit perfectly.

Great product but Customer Service was 0 .. not even a star

I’ve been using these skates for a little over a year now (4 days a week – 2 in games and 2 coaching) and I am neither impressed nor disappointed in the skates. I can honestly just say that they aren’t the right skates for me.

The good: – Break in was super fast and the skates are very comfortable (love the new fit system). – The coating on the steel does seem to really make a difference, I definitely feel faster on the ice.

– The flexible tendon guards noticeably help with long strides. – The quality of the skate is top notch! Over a year of usage and they are holding up fantastically well. The bad: – They feel heavy… almost clunky when I’m on the ice.

– The steel seems soft and/or fragile. It knicks and dulls incredibly easy. It seems like after every game, I have an issues with the steel. – Turns are not fluid in these skates. I seem to have a “skipping” issue when making sharp/quick turns at higher speeds.

The skate seems to lose edge and skip across the ice. I’ve tried everything to correct this but it happens just about every game. – I left the skates in my bag for about a week while I was on vacation and they (unsurprisingly) picked up an odor, however, I now can’t get rid of it.

I’ve washed them inside and out and they still just smell kinda gross… not sure why the smell is sticking like glue to them. The skates themselves are good and the quality is great but I will be switching to another skate.

I find myself actually having to think about my skates while I’m in game and how off they feel… I’ve never had that with any other skates before. While I can 100% vouch for the quality, I just can’t use them anymore.

I’m an adult amateur, mid 40s, skating 3-4x/week as a forward. Overall, very happy with these skates. Upgrading from a pair of used Bauer Vapor x7. 0. The fit, comfort, and performance of these skates FAR exceeds my used Vapors.

I’m still getting used to how they skate; they definitely feel different and I believe that is from the blade profiling. I do skate better in them for sure, they feel much more nimble and my turn performance is almost 2x as good as before…it amazed me…I can REALLY crank a turn now without concern of blowing an edge.

Also, the comfort factor is amazing. I’ve skated 4x in them since new and I only have a tiny bit of pain in one small spot on one foot. If it doesn’t go away, I’ll just have them re-heated or punched, no big deal.

I could barely skate after an hour of wearing the X7s and my feet would typically go numb, and my ankles were consistently rubbed raw. Not in these new Supremes…they are amazing. I splurged on these skates as they are probably the last skates I’ll ever buy.

I’m very glad I did and I’m a happy customer.

I’m coming from an older pair of nexus 400, 10 ft profile Step runners and Nash sniper tongue. I got the 10. 5 fit 3 Bauer 3s pros. I’m 275 lbs with a very wide foot but probably medium volume. I knew going in that I would not be an out of the box fit.

So I immediately baked them but I didn’t want to do too much until I skated them about 10 hours to set the heel cup a little bit. Even with a single bake I could feel how well they held my foot. The performance has changed my game and improved my play already.

They are way more responsive and quicker turning than my last pair. I think blade profile is everything as it feels like the blade is half the length of my old blades. The stiffness created a reaponse like none I had experienced before.

I played my next game in them and my teammates noticed my improvements (D league beer league. I suck lol. New to hockey in my late 40’s!). But. they hurt my unique feet. Now comes the best part for strange feet.

thus the “versatility” I mention in the title. (Note: the following is recommended for professionals or those with experience. you can destroy your skates if you do it wrong. I used to fit ski boots back in the day so I have some experience).

So after about 15 hours I was totally sure and confident of where my problem spot was. I put them on and gently heated the problem areas with a heat gun to 200 degrees (see below for how to heat) and stood on the skate.

ahhhhh. felt like someone loosened my laces. the hot spot pressure pain was gone as the affected area stretched out to what my strange hoof needed. Absolutely amazing. Now these skates fit like a glove and perform like nothing I could have imagined.

My game has noticeable improved with just these skates. I think the quad profile of the blade has much to do with their quick feel on the ice and the stiffness of the boot transfers a sensitive feel to the ice.

It’s like the first time you played with a carbon stick after using wood you knew something was very different. One neutral comment is I’m not a fan of the tongue as I would prefer the tongue on the ultra Sonics but I guess that’s why they are more money.

I will probably eventually put Nash Sniper tongues on them. So in summary I realize this review isn’t going to help the average foot but I wanted to let the unique footed people out there know that these skates allow for very easy heat molding.

If you attempt to heat mold. this will probably void your warranty but hey they have to fit right? Have the laces just snug but not as tight as you would skate in them. Use the low setting on the heat gun.

You must have a laser thermometer!! Make 5-7 passes at about 5 inches away CONSTANTLY moving the gun, then take the heat off for 15 seconds to let the heat dissipate through the boot and repeat until you reach 200 degrees temp.

It should take you about 5 mins to reach temp. Do not heat too quickly as you will ruin the boot. When you stand. just stand. do not jump, move, flex, etc. Stand there for 15 mins or until the surface heat is within 10 degrees of when you started.

Living far from a pro shop, I bought two pair of skates over the internet and both were unsatisfactory. So first thing, get yourself to a real pro shop and get scanned. I had been skating in EE skates or D width for years to alleviate pain from my right little toe getting squished.

I got scanned at Pure Hockey in San Jose and discovered my width was really a C. I had Easton skates for years and wanted a lighter, high performance skate. I was fitted into a Bauer 3X, size 6 Fit1, baked, and they punched out that toe area for me.

This made all the difference in the world. Now I have to get rid of the D and regular width CCM skates that I had previously purchased over the internet and was wearing with thick socks. not a good solution to one trouble spot.

One factor to be aware with these Bauer 3X skates is that there is a carbon insert in the tongue so you will not be able to wear them outside your shin pads like I always did. However, unlike my CCM RibCors, which have a humongous tongue, the tongue on these Bauers can go under your shin pad and you won’t even notice i.

e. it won’t feel like it’s hanging up and impeding your mobility.

One skate and the fabric on the tongue came apart near the top laces. It was never stocked and the lace bite padding popped loose. When lacing, these things flex so much it’s ridiculous. Lacing them deforms the boot, This is my songs third pairs of skates and the worst.

Price had never been an issue and his last pair was twice this price and they were quality. The fault really lies on the store, which had limited options for skates in the size range. I asked fo a better quality skat and this was all they had.

My son who is 7 got into hockey. I figured at the age 41, I wanna get into it. I purchased these skates, got them molded for my foot and they fit like a glove! I have a few public skates and 2 intro to hockey for adults with them.

They feel better and better over time. Great quality and comfortable fit. They always say, don’t cheap out when it comes to skates. For anyone who enjoys skating or wants to get into hockey, this is the skate to get!.

My daughter uses these for a half hour lesson once a week. Absolutely no ankle support. Waste of money. Had to buy better.

Don’t support feet properly and blades can’t be sharpened make the feet bending out

Haven’t skated in 30 years and went out on a limb and switched to hockey skates so I could skate with my kids every week. Skating was always uncomfortable, downright painful and not very enjoyable wearing figure skates.

Enter the Bauer X-LP skates… First off, I was sized in-store and even though I have a relatively wide foot I fit comfortably in the Regular width of the Bauer skates. For reference I am a women’s 9 or 10 reg width depending on shoe brand and I ended up buying this skate in a size 6.

Went skating the next day and skated for nearly an hour with ease and no pain or discomfort during or after my skate. WOW I am just blown away by the comfort and ease of use (since I have never skated in hockey skates).

I would totally recommend these skates. I like them so much I may even look at switching my son to this model from his Bauer Vapor skates he wears for hockey.

These Bauer X-LP hockey skates are very comfortable, very good quality for low price and wide enough for comfort. These are great beginner hockey skates and would highly recommend! Needed skates for Open Skate and rentals are so uncomfortable.

I could wear couple these Bauer skates for couple hours without any problems. Am very happy with my purchase.

I’m very pleased with these as a first pair of skates for my adult-sized 12-year-old. Assembly quality is good and there’s plenty of interior and tongue padding. The outer shell is plastic all around, but they look cool nonetheless.
