20 Best Youth Wrestling Shoes (2022 Updated)

I use these shoes for powerlifting, and have been looking for a pair of (extra) wide lifting shoes–preferably with minimal heel drop–for a very, very, VERY long time. For context, I have very wide feet.

My normal shoe size varies from 11-11. 5 3E-4E, depending on manufacturer availability (NB and Allen Edmonds have been my go-to’s)–it’s honestly probably a smidge wider than 4E, but footwear options are basically non-existent at that point.

This has made my search incredibly frustrating. The reviews ranged from sizing up by half-size to ≥2 sizes. I went with a Sz12 (half size up). After loosening up the laces a good deal + breaking them in over a couple of sessions, these were initially very snug, but now stretched out a bit/molded to my feet, and fit like a glove.

They’re legit incredibly comfortable. The reviews are correct in that these do run very hot, so make sure to air them out after every session otherwise the funk will definitely build up. The rubber soles, especially those on the sides of footbed, have excellent traction and prevent wide feet from “spilling over.

” One thing to note, some of the stitching is starting to come loose on the sides after ~1mo of use, despite only wearing these while on-platform for squats, deads/rows, OHPs, etc, so it’s hard to say what the long-term durability will be (hence, 4 stars and not 5).

That said, I’m still very pleased overall – it’s a great solution for us wide-footed folks, and while those who prefer a bit of heel lift (due to ankle mobility/depth issues etc) might still SOL, this is great for those who prefer a more minimalist/”barefoot” approach.

@Asics – Please expand to 3E sizes, or make sure to keep these in production!.

The layout of the sole provides excellent grip, especially when either your heel or front of foot are off the mat. The no tongue design also makes the boots particularly hard to hold as it matches the contour of your foot.

Kicking out of a single leg is much easier with these than my previous shoes. I wouldn’t recommend them as a first, purely because you wouldn’t be able to fully appreciate the quality and effort they put into this design.

I’m a Varsity coach at our High School. I always have the members of my team have a 2nd pair of shoes as the season is long and they take a beating. my son wrestles for me and bought these as a backup pair for his JB’s.

They lasted about 8 minutes into his first practice. We were doing cardio (sprawls) and the rubber on the toe completely broke off! it peeled off a 4″ chunk, all the way back past the ball of the foot.

They are totally unusable now.

I bought these for wrestling and they are good quality. I Wrestled the entire season without having any problems. Love the shoes. I really recommend these shoes as a high school wrestler myself, the shoes have good grip and they are really light and durable.

“Kids” is too ambiguous. I need kids youth sizes. Customer service couldn’t point me to the correct shoes after 45 minutes in chat because the website doesn’t say. Fix it please.

Adidas does a great job having a form fitting flexible but supportive shoes. Some of the other brands “Nike” look cool but don’t configure well. I try to stay with same model.

Bought a month ago and still in good condition. Fir is true to size. A little pricey for a kids shoe they will only wear one season. However it is good quality.

Shoes are very nice and easy for kids to wear by themselves. Velcro tape is very useful prevent from kids injuring.

Bought these to replace an older pair of the same shoe that wore out. Not used for wrestling, but everyday wear and workouts. They are quite comfortable and form-fitting after the break-in period. The sizing of these shoes seems to follow a different scale compared to other shoes.

I normally wear 8, but in these shoes 9. 5 fits just right. At one point I found an Asics wrestling shoe sizing guide that indicated to order 1. 5 sizes larger than your normal shoe size (can find the webpage anymore).

This recommendation works just right in my case.

It did not fit and I am returning them, even though I ordered a size larger. My shoe size is a 11 and I ordered a 12. If you want a satisfied customer with your products, there should be FREE RETURNS! Do not make the customer pay for returns.

I bought these a month ago for my 10 year old daughter who wrestles. She has worn them to practice about 3 times a week and to one tournament so far. She really likes the snug fit of the shoe. Her foot does not slide around and she gets great traction on the mat.

The velcro strap that wraps around the ankle is great for securing the shoe strings. This keeps the strings from coming undone or getting stepped on during practice and tournaments. I would not by a shoe that does not have this feature.

It keeps her from having to tape her strings to her ankles. I was a little hesitant on the grey color, as I was afraid it would show dirt and mat marks. So far, this has not been an issue. We are very pleased with the shoe and the price was great at $57.

Obviously, most reviews for these shoes say to order 1 full size up, so if you don’t, you can’t complain that they are too small. My son’s regular shoes are a wide width, but these seem to fit him great.

He says they are super comfortable. They have great flexibility & ankle support. The velcro strap seems to work well for keeping his laces tied. He hasn’t had them long enough to talk about durability, but they seem well constructed.

Overall, I’m very pleased with these shoes, and wouldn’t hesitate to order them again. Frankly, I wish I had this nice of a wrestling shoe when I was a kid.

I bought these for my 9-year old son. Our favorite thing about them is that they go on much easier than the ones he had before that did not have the velcro strap at the top. Word of warning is that they do need to break in a bit.

My son got abrasions on both of his feet the first couple times he wore these. We quickly figured out that wearing long socks (not ankle socks) helped quite a bit to keep the shoe from rubbing him raw.

The socks were a suitable fix for the next time he wore them and we are very happy with the shoes.

PROS: I bought these for my son who is a beginner wrestler and they were good a good fit for him because they tend to run wide and wide wrestling shoes are tough to find unless you want to go up in price to the ASIC Snapdown 2.

Good for wrestlers with wide feet. He won the conference championship in these shoes. CONS: Overall build quality is poor even for an entry level show. At the end of his tournament a chunk of the sole cake off and the stitching towards the toe started coming loose with a long thread hanging off of the toe area.

They only made it to the conference championship before they fell apart. They served their purpose for the two month season. If you don’t want to be replacing your wrestling shoes every two months I’d recommend something of better quality.

The Adidas Men’s HVC2 Wrestling Shoe is not so much how it improves on your father’s wrestling shoe as hoew it recreates the feeling of contact, grip and release from the flat, inclined or uneven surface that we always expected in a shoe prime for wrestling, lifting, fitness and plain styling at home or out.

The feather lightness doesn’t give up top line stitching, materials, or style. I used to wrestle in upper school and lettered. I was quite comfortable on the mat and I can still fall safely, but at 69 years I still lift, but that’s my main exercise.

For reasons I’m sure we all know, I keep 7 pairs of various shoes for special weather and use needs. The HVC2 is my daily indoor and good weather shoe. I have no use for so-called orthopedic shoes that may be fine for others but not for my wants and needs.

Obviously, know your size. These fit me as expccted. The excellent ankle support practically eliminates stress and burning in shin and calf muscles. As mentioned the grip is styled similarly to any of the Adidas shoes such as the Samba and what I expect from a non-marking sole required by gymnasium floors.

The soles are suitable for outdoor dry surfaces. Plus they look good and I know they attract good looks.

I absolutely love these shoes, I got them in black and they look so cool while practicing. The way these shoes are designed make for smooth training and they feel weightless! Would definitely buy again!.

They came and my son loves them! Fit is great and he usually complains often about any shoe that has to go on his foot!

Bought for my 5 year old. I would re-lace them as they were a pain to put on my 5 year old with the lace ran though the tongue of the shoe

Bought these about a month ago. Shoes are great and the kiddo loves them!

Shopping a little ahead of time for upcoming wrestling season while out with my son. The wrestling shoes weren’t even on display yet but the employee took the time to look up what options were available in the back in my son’s hard-to-find size.

Thrilled that what was available was such a great shoe! Last year my son had to deal with some turf toe because of shoes that were a bit too ‘soft’ so glad that he has a pair now with slightly stiffer sole and traction that wraps up the inside of the foot a bit to grip the mat better.

My daughter couldnt be happier with the brand new quality and fit with quicksilver shipping speed too! She is going to be bummed when she out grows them next year she is that happy and satisfied. So happy with this purchase and will come back after she wears these out! Thanks.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen heavy duty wrestling shoes like this. My son liked them but I also bought him another pair that were softer. He did say he had to break these in but it pinched at the toes.

I’ve had these shoes since the beginning of wrestling season (November), and they are overall a great shoe, great traction, great feel. I’ve used them in intense wrestling workouts, wrestling matches and weight lifting.

Only problem is that after my first 2 months with it, the top part of the sole of my right foot just a little bit. Which is fine. And when I first got them, when I ran my finger down the sole, little bits of rubber were on my finger.

But after matches it’s fine.

Wrestling shoes work great as boxing shoes, which is good because boxing shoes styles are too loud. I’m really happy with these adidas because the style is cool and understated. They work great as boxing shoes.

I got the version with black accents.

Bought these for my daughter for an intro to wrestling. And she loves them.

I love these shoes, I know that there wrestling shoes but I use them for training in the gym. Everything from running on the treadmill to lifting weights. I do recommend getting a size larger though.

I wrestled when I was a kid but not now, I’m in my mid 50s. I’ve had both ankles broken so I got these for their ankle support and super light weight. I love em, I’ll get more when I wear em out

I’ve been boxing in these shoes for 3 years now and they’ve still held up strong. I’ve tried many other different types of shoes and none of them fit or feel right. I keep going back to these old ones because they feel the best.

This shoe runs true to size; has plenty of lace-up area (space between the eyelets) and fits like a glove. In my opinion it is way underpriced as it is of high quality, breathes well and the heel/toe pivot points really work; extremely light and they form to your feet in an hour or so.

Very good buy and highly recommend them.

Best value shoe @ Academy’s; legitimately fit like Aisic Aggressor I & II’s. I purchased these for my son, & have lasted several seasons so far and still going strong! Forgot the cheap China Made Nike’s! Aisic is where it’s @ when we’re talking about Wrestling! And yes, it’s 2020 therefore everything is exported.

However, these are still Aisics that are made in Vietnam typically; & they’ll outlast any other brands you could get other than minus maybe “2-3 other Adidas & 1 Older Nike Model”. If you’re spending a little more, go with the Aisic Aggressors II, or you can never go wrong with Cael’s/or Gables Aisics! However, I give these a 5; rather than 4; due to the fact that they’ve held up in high level SC Wrestling.

From Youth, to just now starting Varsity as a Freshman. And I even bought a pair for myself since they’ll price match, & they’re not just for “novice/intermediate” wrestlers. Of course you get what you pay for; but again.

these quality for the price is by FAR the best deal Academy carries! I use mine just for coaching my Youth Club Team; & so far they’ve lasted 3+ years & still counting. And I wrestled collegiately, & have used them in freestyle tournaments; along with old teammates who’ve came to our Practices.

They’re working great and I highly recommend them for anyone from Youth all the way to the High School level!.

I had to return them because they did not fit — in fact, I could not get them on my feet because they were incredibly narrow. I can fit into normal width (D) shoes even though my feet are probably closer to an E width, but I could not even get my foot into these shoes without completely unlacing them.

Just not practical at all, and would have liked more information as to sizing prior to purchase.

Medium intensity use in martial arts class. Alternative to high lace boxing shoes, so went for these. Good grip, Good vents, could do with heavier duty mesh. Used 2hrs 3x per week on smooth wooden floor.

I feel the sole will wear out first, as heavy signs of use are beginning to show. My only other gripe – Velcro on the strap too short and keeps coming undone and sticking to the laces of the other shoe at inopportune moments.

I will probably cut it off. This needs a redesign – longer strap with longer strips of velcro. Rest of the shoe is of good quality. Overall 4/5. P. s. if you are going to use these for Powerlifting, spend an extra 10 and get yourself some Adidas Powerlift 2.

0s, heavier duty and low flex sole.

I bought these for squatting and deadlifting. They’re really great and provide a lot of ankle stability and they have really thin but stable soles which is great for deadlifts. They’re also very grippy so you get good traction with the ground.

I bought these wrestling shoes as a powerlifter looking for a hard flat sole to low bar squat in. They are comfortable , look good imo and are really cheap so that’s great. I just wish the sole was a tad wider for extra stability but I’m really nit picking.

I ordered these shoes twice in a size 9. Twice, they came in a box that said size 9, but inside were size 8 shoes; this happened both times. I lost confidence in the company’s ability to send me the correct shoes, so instead of returning the shoes for a second time and reordering, I decided to keep them, even though they are too small.

I will likely not make another purchase with ASICS again.

I’m liking these shoes. I’ve had them about 2 weeks now and they’ve been nice. No blisters or anything like that and they’re pretty stylish and comfortable. I’m not a fan of the top part that the laces are on being hooked to the bottom.

I had some Nike mike trout baseball cleats with the same style and wasn’t a huge fan. They work. 4 out of 5. No other complaints. Size is pretty true. I had a pair of Cale 7. 0 shoes before in 11s that fit almost exactly to these guys in 11s.

I wear size 11, and ordered 11 but this was little bit big on me. Had to return and get size 10. 5 which fits better. Although it looked good one side near my toe the glue came undone will need to return for better made one.

I purchased four of these bad boys a month ago and they are Great. Everyone loves the style, apparently the Black and Blue are everyone’s favorites. This is at both the gym and boxing. They fit well, because they allow for a wide foot.

When i’m training, especially boxing, these work very well. I have 4 pairs of these!!.

If you wanna get wrestling shoes it’s better to go to a store and try them on. Don’t just assume it’s you’re EXACT measurements and then complain about it. These are great for wide feet and have good traction.

True to size. Exactly what you expect from a wrestling shoe. Light weight, good ankle support and comfortable. Good price for entry level wrestling shoes.

Perfect shoe for my MS wrestler. He tried on several shoes but this was wider in the toe box. he tells me they are “good”, in MS language that means Nike out together. Decent entry level shoe for the mat!.
