12 Best Zigbee Light Switch (2022 Updated)

I had some wiring challenges in a 93 year old home. I was able to solve it using Philips Hue bulbs and this switch. I can program it to control my lights in scenes or to switch different lights on an off.

For example, in our master bedroom, we have two bedside lights, three wall lights and a floor lamp. The switch top right switches on lights on with a warm tone for the evening. The switch top left switches all lights on with a bright tone for the day time.

The lower right switch switches all lights off and the lower left adjusts the lights so that only the bedside lamps are on. It also needs no wires and batteries. It’s magic!.

I have a ton of hue lights in my house. Ill spare you the long speech. Ill just say these switches feel like something from a childs toy. The construction is exceedingly cheap. The switch feel is aweful.

They legitimately are pile of trash. Solo cups use better plastic.

This is a great switch. Pairs easily and does exactly what it says. All four buttons (top/bottom left/right) can be programmed to do separate things as well as long holds on each. Or you can swap out the four switch design for a more simple two switch (top/bottom).

I have multiple and use both designs. The only small issue is that when using the standard split design, you cannot press both buttons at the same time (to say turn on or off two things at once). You can only press one function at a time.

Beyond that, the switches are perfect and work exactly as they should. I prefer these for the lights that are more commonly on/off lights. Where I like the Lutron Aurora for those that are often dimmed.

Installation was simple if you have basic electrical knowledge. Took me about 7 minutes per switch.

To address other complaints below: 1. There are numerous 3rd party adapters which allow you to put this switch in a standard decora wall plate…a simple Amazon search will reveal multiple options, I use them all the time.

2. I too would LOVE to see this switch in any kind of black…I frequently design and build dark rooms and the only other hue comparable switch available in the US that come in black or any other colors are the runless wireless clock switches which I hate and they don’t work half of the time.

3. Biggest complaint about these switches and the current situation with HUE period is that they’re constantly sold out of everything I need (basically these switches and the GU10 bulbs) and usually with months long lead times.

Other than all of that these dimmers are great the newest version build quality is significantly better, if you get the hue dynamic app then you can add up to 10 functions per button greatly increasing the amount of pre sets you can cycle through.

Signify, please get your production and supply chain issues sorted so I can keep buying your products!.

I have a house full of V1 switches. They’ve worked well for me for almost a decade. Honestly, they’re basically perfect and changed how I interact with the lights in my house. More than half of my house lights are on these switches.

This v2 redesign adds a failure point: They changed dedicated separate on and off buttons for a on/off toggle. Which means you have to see the lights to know if pushing the toggle will turn them on or off.

If you’re turning outside lights on or off, it used to be that you just hit the button of whatever you want (Irrespective of the state the lights are in) and then walk outside. Now, unfortunately, it’s a toggle, so you have to physically see the lights to know if you’re turning them on or off.

I had thought that wasn’t a big deal, but it’s surprising how often in these old New England houses it makes sense to have a lightswitch inside for an outside area, or at the top of the basement stairs, etc.

On day 2 we had a situation where my wife turned the outside lights off, then I pressed the toggle button and accidentally turned them all back on, then we walked out to the car and had to walk back in to turn them off again.

Hopefully as they build out the software we’ll have some sort of solution for an absolute on button and an absolute off button. But as is, I’m going to have to juggle some old switches into new positions, for any lights we can’t physically see from the switch.

These works perfectly for my older home without a wall switch. Many of my lights had pull switches so without hiring an electrician I was able to hook these up myself. I’m back to buy more and sadly they are out of stock.

On/Off and dimmable, just enough features to keep the remote simple. Many of the so called competitors lights found online have too many features making their remotes confusing. I use these without the hub and just the assigned bulbs work when the remote is pressed.

No need to have my phone nearby.

This little gadget strikes a perfect balance between old-school light switches and ‘smart’ appliances. Sitting in between the wiring for your house mains & the light switch, it allows any standard switch to be a smart switch by stopping power from being cut to the lights by light switch operation.

The switch still behaves like a standard light switch, but since the bulbs are still powered, you can use voice and app commands to turn lights on & off, even with the switch “off”. The device is also tiny – it shouldn’t be any issue tucking it into any standard box.

There is a battery that will eventually need replacing in it, but those small button batteries usually last a long time. I imagine it’ll be a few years before it’ll be a worry. Be warned though – it’ll only work properly with Hue bulbs.

You put these inside the switch box for your wall switch ( have to turn off circuit breaker, attach wires together with provided wire nut, etc… can you do that or need electrician?) You detach the existing wires from your existing wall switch, and connect them together.

That leaves that circuit always powered on. You then attach this device to your existing wall switch. Your wall switch now will control this device… not the flow of electricity to your fixtures, outlet or whatever it did before.

Consider: 1) That circuit is now always powered. If you get into a situation where you need to power- cycle (off-on) that circuit ,for example , if bulbs become unresponsive, or whatever you are troubleshooting , you have to shut off power at the circuit breaker at the panel.

Not terrible I guess… But just things to keep in mind. 2) Even though there’s electricity in that box, this Hue unit is battery powered. The battery last I think it up to three years… At that time you’ll have to shut off the circuit breaker and open the box and change it or its battery.

So you will have work down the road.

They work well but there is a bit of a lag when you turn off the switch compared to when the lights actually turn off. It’s less than a second, but it is noticeable. Like others have said, it does use an internal battery so that’s not ideal, but not a dealbreaker.

And overall it gets the job done and made my light switches more smart home friendly. They could be a little cheaper too.

The standout feature of the Ecobee switch for me is the Smart-on and Smart-off features. It is awesome to know that if someone leaves the room and forgets to turn off the light, it will automatically turn off after 15 minutes of no movement.

And conversely the auto on is also a very convenient feature depending on the room that you install it in. We chose to put it in our bedroom, only because most of the other rooms in the house already contain smart devices.

Auto on doesn’t suit the bedroom very well, but I love the option and if we decide to move it, I’m sure we will enable that feature. Another standout feature is the fact that when you touch the switch to turn the lights on, they are on instantly- because it is a hardwired.

Unlike some other smart switches that are wireless and can have a delay or need to be tapped a few times to respond, the Ecboee switch is instant. We were also very surprised to find out that Alexa was built into the Ecobee switch! We can ask her to turn the lights on without getting out of bed, we can ask the weather while getting ready for the day, set timers, we can even listen to music via Amazon’s music app – Although the sound isn’t great quality and it’s a little weird listing to music from your light switch! Because we put this in our bedroom, the night light feature also comes in handy – as does the mute button when you just want to turn Alexa off so she isn’t listening! The only thing that I think could be improved with the Switch is the option to change Alexa’s wake command.

We find this rather annoying since our daughter’s name is Alyssa. Alexa tends to wake during conversations when we use our daughters name. We tried to change her wake command and learned that this was only possible on the Echo.

Over all, this little light switch is packed full of use full features. It is very smart!.

I am comparing this to other devices on the market. I have 38 switches, thermostats etc controlled by Alexa. (Nest, Ecobee thermostats, Wemo switches, Ecobee Switches. I thikn it’s a great first attempt and will do everything you will want except for the following things; You can’t change the Alexa WAKE word to something other than ALEXA.

I use “COMPUTER” on all of the other devices. That is a software change and hopefully not a licensing issue (it’s probably a licensing issue!) I hope they can get that done. If you use Alexa for everything it’s no big deal but its driving me crazy.

I have WEMO switches that allow you to set specific times of the day to come on and off. RULES and such. Ecobee needs to add that. Again, hopefully just software. I assumed they had them but it doesn’t.

Quike frankly this is the reason they lost 1. 5 stars. This unit has sensors to turns things on when someone enters the room. nice, but I don’t need that. It’s not the same thing. I originally went with the ECOBEE because WEMO won’t let you control more than one home from a smart phone.

It seems to be a little slower than the DOT and ECHO at acknowledging the WAKE word and turning the blue light on. I am not sure if it is a processor or something else like architecture. I don’t think it’s me.

maybe someone can explain what I think I’m seeing. The unit will only handle 600 watts incandescent and 150 watts LED. I have no idea why there is a difference? I thought a Watt was a Watt on a SPST switch.

While this should be enough for lighting it is less than the WEMO switches which are double that, around 1200 or 1500 watts as I remember. I am not sure if it is going to overheat or just stop drawing over 600 watts or how it knows its LED.

My son has a large chandelier with 54 3. 5 watt chandelier LED light bulbs. This is not the switch for that unit. Based on how the electrical is wired, some wall switches have one 14/2 wire coming into the switch box with the power already at the light overhead.

The light switch simply connects the two wires to complete the circuit. In that case you have a one hot wire and one wire going back to the fixture with the power. It also has a bear ground wire. Electricians will use the black for power and the white for return power.

The white in this case is not the neutral. This unit will not work with this configuration. They need a white wire, probably to complete the circuit to keep the electronics working. I just opened up one of my switches to install this and found out there is no white wire.

This is a great first attempt at switch; hopefully some of the changes above are just software upgrades that can be made to this unit free of charge. At Christmas etc I was buying ECHO Dot’s for $29.

You can get the Echo DOT and the WEMO brand switch and its costs less. No Alexa built in but Alexa DOT can control the WEMO switch and I can use the wake word COMPUTER!. The Ecobee good in the kitchen where you might not want an Echo device sitting on your counter but the ALEXA stuff isn’t enough to get me excited about buying this switch for other rooms.

Again the reason I got it was because of WEMO limitations and it addressed that for me. Fix the wake word, add rules for going on and of at specific times such as “15 minutes after sunset for 5 hours” and such with some software and this would go to 4.

This device really packs a lot into a confined housing, and is relatively easy to install – if you can replace a light switch, you can install this device yourself. The allure of this device combines a light switch, an ecobee remote temperature/occupancy sensor (more on that below), and an Amazon echo dot into a device that mounts on the wall and is very unobtrusive.

ecobee did a great job making a beautiful light switch that is packed with functionality. So why only 3 stars? First, the limited application. This light switch can only be installed as a replacement for a single-pole, non-dimming switch.

I have quite a few 3-way switches and dimming fixtures in my house, which limits the places I can put the device to about 30% of my light switches, most of which are in tiny areas like bathrooms and closets.

In order to achieve the dream of “whole-home voice”, ecobee needs to take the next step and release a switch with 3-way switch compatibility and dimming built in. For $99, this should be included. Second, the delay or absence of key features.

As an ecobee thermostat owner, I was excited to have the built-in temperature sensor to allow me to move one of my room sensors to a new location. Sadly, that feature is not coming until the summer (hardware is present, software isn’t ready).

For a company that was founded on producing thermostats and remote temperature sensors, this is a miss. The occupancy sensor is a key piece but the occupancy data is not surfaced (yet?) through the app so I can see what areas of my house are occupied, as I do with remote temperature sensors.

Also, the lack of flexibility in scheduling is a bit frustrating. I can set an exterior light on at Sunset, and off at a particular time (recent add – thank you!!), but can’t simply set an on-and-off schedule like I can with most other IOT devices.

I hope ecobee continues to listen to their customers and implement these features to continue making the smart-home experience enjoyable and unintrusive.

I purchased two regular GE smart paddle switches (93105075) and this dimmer switch (48717) to be used with incandescent or dimmable LED bulbs from GE. They all work great as expected before you add them to the App and reasonably well after once you figure out how they were intended to be used together.

My gripes with the app are, 1) it’s a bit flaky. As another reviewer stated, sometimes you open the app and it shows the light is off even though the light is on. It may help to switch the light off and then on again, restart the app, or restart your entire phone.

Similar things happen when using a Scene. I had to restart my phone (Pixel 5, Android 12) for it to function as expected. 2) It’s not intuitive. I get the sense that the app is designed for a specific scenario, which is 1 controlling device per room (the switch) to control multiple bulbs.

But when you have more than one switch in the room, all switches control everything in the room, including other switches, which is chaotic. I thought I had an electrical wiring problem. I have a 3-gang box in the entry way, each with a different GE Cync smart switch.

If I add all three devices to the same room, because they are in the same room, then I expect to be able to control them individually in the app, and as a group in the app, since a room is a group, but what I didn’t expect is that if I turn on one of the switches physically, it turns on the other switches.

In other words, when I use an individual switch physically, it controls the group, which I don’t want. The solution was to assign each switch a different room, which sort of makes sense since the lights they control are in different “rooms” (interior entry way, porch light, and garage exterior).

3) bugginess. As I mentioned I assigned each switch to a different room. However, if I try to create a group for them so I can control them all at once, a) the dimmer switch says groups are not available without a firmware update, when I click update firmware it tells me the firmware is up to date, b) then I go to the first regular Cync switch and I can create a custom group and add the switch to it, but c) when I go to the second regular Cync switch to add it to a group, the group I just created is not there.

Ultimately I ended up creating a Scene, and adding three devices so they can be controlled together. 4) Scenes. These work pretty well to control devices in multiple rooms. The UI took a minute to get used to, (TP link has much better UI for their app) but the main gripe is that you can’t schedule a scene to start at sunset or sunrise, only specific times.

First let me say there are great videos out there on how to properly install the GE dimmer switch and I would advise watching them in advance of installing the dimmer switch if you’ve never installed a smart switch before.

I’ve done a few so it was less than 15 minutes to install mine. Probably took more time having to go out to the garage and shut off power at the breaker and then having to go turn it back on. I had plenty of room in the switch box to easily install the GE dimmer switch.

That can sometimes be painful, and I have had to switch out to a deeper switch box on another wifi switch that was too much bigger than the manual switch it was replacing. So, ease of installation was a huge plus.

Aesthetically this is easily the nicest looking of all my wifi switches. It does continuously glow and makes it easy to find in the dark, but you can turn that off if you don’t want that feature in the app.

You will need the GE app for setup. During setup it easily linked with Alexa which is what I primarily use to control all my lights/switches. Dimmer on the switch also worked pretty seamlessly and takes a medium amount of pressure when pressing directly on the switch.

I have a couple other dimmer switch brands and this GE dimmer is easily the most eye appealing in my opinion.

I absolutely love this light switch. The l GE C by GE Dimmer Smart Switch has , Bluetoot, WiFi, Alexa and Google Home Compatible without a hub!! I got this because when I am laying in bed with my dog, if I get out of bed to turn the lights off then she is going to jump out too… plus it’s just annoying to get out of bed at night to turn the lights off.

So I saw this and had to give it a try. I had my brother help me with the installation since he has the same one at his house, it didn’t take long at all and was pretty simple! Once it was placed in position I connected it to my wifi & Alexa and said Alexa turn off the lights, and she did! It’s the coolest thing ever.

I mean why wouldn’t you get this? It’s awesome! It’s also really great for older people who have trouble getting in and out of bed or need the light on when they get out of bed in the middle of the night… it’s like the modern version of the clap on clap off lights but way cooler and more sophisticated!.

Exactly what I was looking for! Have 1 of these in each of my kids rooms where the light switch is attached to a particular outlet but their main room lights (lamps) are attached to different outlets.

This allows me to control the Philips light bulb, wherever it is, while allowing power to pass through to the all wall outlets.

Looks good and works great. Only reason I can’t give it 5 stars is that it doesn’t fit in a decora wall plate and Phillips doens’t offer any solution to make it work as such. I had to buy a 3d printed wall plate off Etsy.

Maybe Phillips should split this into two products and offer a remote and then offer a wall switch instead of trying to do both. Also, since all my other lights in this room have 3-way switches, I bought two of these and use them both in the same room.

Only other tiny complaint is that each dimmer step is a bit more than I’d like, or at least more than I’m used to with my Lutron dimmers.

There’s a lot to like about this device and its associated app. Clearly there was a lot of thought and testing before it was released. Both the enclosed instructions and the app are designed to encourage the buyer to try the “easy” installation with a few hand tools.

In print and on screen it’s clear that ecobee wants the buyer to be safe and feel confident about the installation with clear step-by-step instructions and videos. I am a very experienced DIYer and have installed many dozens of electrical boxes, outlets, switches, coax and other wiring in the past 40 years.

I applaud ecobee’s concern for safety, but I think they are a bit optimistic about the ease of installation. First, one must find a suitable switch location. It cannot be in a 2- or 3-gang box because the unique cover plate will not fit.

Second, there must be a white neutral wire, which one cannot assume is in all locations. Third, if a buyer is replacing an existing switch (the norm) the box may already be filled with wires and nuts; adding four more connectors can easily overstuff the box and the depth of the switch will compound that issue.

(I’d suggest before opening the ecobee packaging that the buyer look carefully at the intended location and check the amount of space available. ) Finally, the switch comes with slender wires which do not firmly fit into wire nuts when the other connections are larger copper.

In sum, installation required a bit more expertise and a few more tools than the manufacturer indicated for a safe, enduring installation. Once installed, linking to Amazon’s Echo (I did not try other services) was a snap, as was the registration process.

The features claimed by the brochure and instructions worked easily and well. There is a useful color ban on the switch that alerts you to the current mode (e. g. , is Alexa listening?). Using the app to customize the functions was generally easy but required some patience to understand the functions and achieve the desired results.

The built-in speaker is fine for simulated voice Alexa responses, news, weather) but although one can listen to music on it, few users will find it pleasurable. In sum, this is a nifty, multi-featured gadget that continues to add to the ever-growing connectivity-of-everything craze.

While installation can be challenging depending on the current configuration of the box, most people should be able to master it with the provided guidance or can call an electrician. Once connected, set-up is easy and the uses varied.

Kasa makes a great product and we have several devices throughout our home. We have recommended them to many of our friends and family, and they are hooked. While smart home automation is a fun do-it-yourself project, it is important to keep the following in mind: First, it is important to understand your router’s capacity.

Our current router says it can handle up to 40 devices but it is actually doing about 50+. These devices can add up. We are a family of three, and between our phones, laptops, tablets, thermostat, doorbell, garage door, cameras.

you see where I am going with this. Everything adds up. It is important to strategically choose what you want to smart switch: front light, back yard light, garage light, nightstand lamps, etc. You do not want to put a smart switch everywhere.

Next, it is important to pick an A. I. and understand what is compatible with it. For me, I chose Amazon Alexa. I really enjoy having the Amazon speakers throughout the home and being able to tell her to turn on/off certain devices.

Also, Amazon ‘Routine’ allows you to customize how your devices function. For example, I have one that says if the Ring doorbell detects motion between 11pm to 5am, then turn on my Kasa light switch for the front light for 30 minutes.

I have another that says when I come home after 6pm to turn on the house light. It is important to understand what brand your A. I. support. Google Home is another good option that my friends use. I do not know if I can endorse Apple since they are in a universe of their own and you might get trapped using mostly their product only.

Finally, try to streamline your brand. What I mean by that is do not use Kasa light switch for your front light and use a different brand for your backyard light. You may end up with several apps for different purposes.

Going back to the A. I. discussion, Alexa allows me to interact with all my smart devices using my smart speakers. Alexa also allows these devices to interact with one another. At the end of the day, you want to keep it simple.

So far so good. A little tricky to get wired in because my house was wired with all the same color wiring in the switch boxes. Wired up didn’t work. Had to repeatedly flip breaker and try different wiring combinations multiple times before I landed on the correct way.

After that, followed directions in Kasa app in order to connect to my Wi-Fi. Do yourself a favor and turn off your 5Ghz broadcast from your Wi-Fi router first before trying to get the switches connected to your Wi-Fi in the Kasa app.

Also if you are using a current iPhone pull down from top right to get to your iPhone control panel screen. Then hold down on the Wi-Fi icon towards the top left of that panel. Then choose the Kasa Wi-Fi from the Wi-Fi network selections.

After install and setup I downloaded Homebridge and used a Kasa plugin do that I can control the switches thru HomeKit via voice control with Siri or thru HomeKit on my iPhone.

I have installed two of these single-pole switches already, and the installations were very straightforward, though not necessarily easy (will cover that in my negatives). The switch relies on its wires (two live/load, one neutral, and one ground) connecting to the outlet box’s wires.

My outlet box did not have any copper or ground wire available, but it is still grounded. Although, the instruction video said you can ignore the ground wire if there is none provided, you can just tuck the smart switch’s ground wire to the ground wire/screw in the back of the outlet box to properly ground the switch.

The wire connections are easy as long as you label which live/load wire is hot. Now the negatives: the smart switch circuitry is enclosed in a plastic casing and it is quite big. Once the wires are all connected, it is a struggle to push the smart switch into the electrical outlet box, especially with the wires and connectors taking up room.

Furthermore, because there is not a whole lot of room to work with, there will be some slight alignment issue to the light switch cover and it may be off aesthetically. IMO, the HS200 should be using a screw systems on the switch itself to accept the wires coming out of the outlet box rather than connecting the 6 to 8 wires with 3 to 4 connectors, depending on your ground wire availability.

TP-Link’s HS210 for 3-way system partially did it right to eliminate some of the spaces taken up by the wires and connectors by using the screw sytem on its hardware. Alternatively, update the switch’s circuitry so that the case is smaller to fit into the electrical outlet box if possible.

Aside from the negatives, the switch works very well. The app is very easy to setup and use, and it is Alexa compatible. The Wi-Fi connection is quite good. I will still give it 5/5 stars for such quality product.
